This New Gulfstream Has the Longest Range of Any Business Jet

Yahoo17-04-2025

The aircraft that billed itself as having the world's longest range can fly even farther. The Gulfstream G800, which made its first transatlantic flight in June 2022, has underwent a testing program with three test aircraft for the last three years. It received type certification yesterday from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and EASA, the European Union counterpart.
Originally, Gulfstream said the G800 would have a range of 8,000 nautical miles, but the company has upped that to 8,200. That extra mileage matters to aircraft owners willing to pay between $70 million and $100 million (or much more with options) for the new breed of ultra-long-range aircraft, including Gulfstream's G700, Bombardier's Global 7500 and new Global 8000, and Dassault Falcon's 6X and upcoming 10X, expected to be certified in 2027.

The new G800, scheduled to be delivered to its first launch customer soon, is smaller than its G700 sibling by about 10 feet; it's for owners who may not need the extra space, but want the added range.
The 8,200-nautical-mile range happens at a long-range cruise speed of Mach 0.85. It can travel 7,000 nautical miles at Mach 0.90. At Mach 0.87, its range is 8,000 nautical miles. Beyond the extra range, the G800's maximum speed was also upped to Mach 0.935 from Mach 0.925. Its takeoff and landing distances—critical for aircraft that want to land on short-field airports—also improved to 5,812 feet and 3,105 feet, respectively.
'With the certification of the G800, Gulfstream has again exceeded expectations thanks to the expertise and rigor of our flight test, certification, and manufacturing teams,' said Mark Burns, Gulfstream's president, in a statement.
The G800's numbers include the industry's lowest cabin altitude of 2,840 feet when flying at 41,000 feet and 100 percent fresh air, thanks to a plasma ionization air-purification. The interior can be configured with four living areas or three living areas and a dedicated crew compartment.
Gulfstream is halting production of the G650 in June when deliveries of the G800 begin. In January the company said it expects to deliver about 150 aircraft this year.

A trip to LAX without a car? Metro opens long-awaited LAX station

Decades after rail first broke ground in Los Angeles County, Angelenos will be one step closer to an airport connection with Friday afternoon's opening of the LAX/Metro transit center. The station at Aviation Boulevard and 96th Street will connect to the K Line and C Line and, starting next year, to Los Angeles International Airport's long-awaited automated people mover train. For now, free shuttle buses running every 10 minutes will transport travelers along the 2.5-mile route between the center and LAX. The transit center was budgeted at $900 million and includes a 16-bay bus plaza with electric bus infrastructure, a bicycle hub and a pickup and drop-off area for those who want to avoid the airport's traffic-choked horseshoe loop. Metro parking lots near the station will offer short-term parking. A ribbon cutting is planned for 1 p.m. to commemorate the center's launch and Metro is offering free rides across its system through the weekend. The station opens to the public at 5 p.m. 'When the people mover finally opens, then we will have an international airport that will connect people from literally inside the terminals to the world and beyond through Metro,' Sup. Janice Hahn said during a Metro board of directors meeting in April. From downtown, travelers headed to the transit center would board the A Line to the C Line or the E Line to the K Line. In other areas, including Redondo Beach, Norwalk, Leimert Park and Inglewood, travelers could use one line; in Pasadena and Long Beach, they would need two; those headed from Hollywood or Universal Studios would need to take three trains. Most major cities already have a direct airport rail connection. The absence at LAX has long left travelers baffled, particularly first-time visitors and international passengers expecting a world destination like Los Angeles to have streamlined transit to its main airport. A variety of factors led to the delay, including reported concerns among airport officials over potential lost parking profits, Federal Aviation Administration pushback, and competing interests over taxpayer dollars. The debate was renewed more than a decade ago and plans for the airport's people mover connection and Metro's station were ultimately approved. The station is one of Metro's '28 by 28' transit projects ahead of the Olympics. 'It was such a black eye on the system and on the rail leaders that they couldn't connect Metro rail to LAX,' said Ethan Elkind, a rail expert who authored 'Railtown: The Fight for the Los Angeles Metro Rail and the Future of the City.' He added that the station and the upcoming train 'fills in this big missing gap in the system.' Elkind said it's unclear how many residents will end up relying on the train entirely to get to the airport if they have to change lines while balancing luggage or kids. But it will likely help the employees who make the trek to the airport every day. Tens of thousands of people work at the airport, on top of the hundreds of thousands of weekly travelers. The train is the most anticipated project under the airport's $30 billion overhaul ahead of the FIFA World Cup in 2026 and the Olympics and Paralympics in 2028. Airport leaders and transit experts believe the automated train will significantly ease traffic at 1 World Way.

Michael Jordan's NASCAR Team Dealt Substantial Blow in Court Battle

In October, Hall of Fame NBA guard and 23XI Racing co-owner Michael Jordan helped bring a federal antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR-accusing stock car racing's governing body of monopolistic, anticompetitive practices through its charter system. Despite filing the lawsuit, 23XI Racing was granted an injunction that compelled NASCAR to treat the team as a chartered team in 2025. That period may be over. A federal appeals court on Thursday vacated the injunction protecting 23XI Racing and the other team to file the suit, Front Row Racing. "We are disappointed by today's ruling by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and are reviewing the decision to determine our next step," attorney Jeffrey Kessler said via David Rumsey of Front Office Sports. "We remain confident in our case and committed to racing for the entirety of this season as we continue our fight to create a fair and just economic system for stock car racing that is free of anticompetitive, monopolistic conduct." 23XI Racing now has two weeks to file a petition for another hearing, so there is still some time before the ruling would impact their status on the current season. In NASCAR, teams with charters are reserved a certain number of automatic spots in races. There are currently fifteen such full-time teams in NASCAR, including the two that have sued. JETOUR G700's Historic Debut at the 2025 Taklimakan Rally

WUHU, China, June 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- In the recently concluded 2025 Taklamakan Rally (TAR), the JETOUR G700 achieved remarkable results. Driven by Li Chengpeng and Zhang Jianfeng, the JETOUR G700 participated in the race before its official launch. It won multiple group stage championships, and the entire team successfully finished the race, conquering 4,500 km of China's most brutal terrain over 13 grueling days. This victory not only shattered doubts about the off-road capabilities of new energy vehicles but also showcased JETOUR's innovation on the global stage. Unstoppable Performance: G700 Dominates the "New Hell" of Off-Roading The 2025 TAR Rally raised the stakes with extended routes totaling 2,350 km of special stages, weaving through deserts, canyons, and riverbeds. The G700 dominated iconic sections like Yue Liang Po and the perilous N39 "Death Stage," where scorching heat and relentless sandstorms tested its limits. Competing against elite rivals across 12 treacherous stages, the G700 stood out. GAIA Architecture: The Unstoppable Force Behind Victory The fuel-powered vehicles have long dominated premium off-roading due to new energy limitations in extreme terrain, while JETOUR's GAIA architecture breaks the mold. Its dual-power Super Hybrid and Amphibious Range-Extender systems deliver instant torque, sustained power, and extended range—finally bringing electrified performance to the most demanding environments. Key to its success was the Super Hybrid system, featuring a 2.0TD engine with 45.5% thermal efficiency and an 800V 4C battery capable of 490kW discharge power. The G700 tackled extreme conditions with unwavering reliability, thanks to its 1,300 MPa armored battery casing and real-time temperature monitoring. Relentless Stability, Uncompromising Reliability: The G700's Winning Formula The G700's unibody frame, triple differential locks, and adjustable suspension ensured stability across diverse terrains. In the SS3 Kepin Stage, its cloud-platform chassis excelled in rocky canyons, while intelligent terrain management aced the shifting sands of SS2 Alar. Driver Li Chengpeng praised its comfort: "Unlike traditional off-roaders, the G700 lets you enjoy the ride even on brutal corrugated roads." A New Era Begins: The Future of Electrified Off-Roading With cutting-edge hybrid technology and battle-tested resilience, the G700 embodies the future of adventure, proving that innovation and endurance can conquer any terrain. The model is expected to make its global debut in the fourth quarter of this year. With performance surpassing expectations, the G700 is poised to go "Beyond the Horizon".
