Eberechi Eze release clause set to expire today with Arsenal interested in move
Eze, strongly linked with Arsenal, has indicated he is keen on a move to the Emirates and agreeing personal terms is unlikely to be a significant issue.
But Arsenal and Palace have been unable to agree on a transfer fee – with the Gunners hoping to strike a deal below Palace's asking price for Eze.
The BBC reports that Eze's £68m release clause expires today (August 1) – two weeks before the new Premier League season begins on August 15.
Arsenal believe Palace will be open to negotiating a lower price later in the summer transfer window to avoid Eze entering the final year of his deal.

Eze has established himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League, helping Palace clinch a historic FA Cup trophy last term.
The 27-year-old has played a total of 167 games for Palace to date, conjuring up 40 goals and 28 assists for the south London club.
Analysis from Sports Editor James Goldman…
It was almost impressive that after spending nearly £200m on new blood that the Gunners looked so distinctly recognisable in their 1-0 pre-season defeat to Tottenham on Thursday.
A lack of invention and reliance on Bukayo Saka, allied to the traditional Gabriel Martinelli off, Leandro Trossard on substitution had fans despairing.
It's obvious why Arsenal supporters are crying out for Eberechi Eze.
It's thought that Arsenal are looking to sell a forward before making a formal move for Eze.
The north Londoners still have plenty of time to get a deal over the line with the summer transfer window remaining open until September 1.
Arsenal feel Eze's best position is when he operates as a No.10 but also view him as a versatile attacking player who can be deployed on the left.
Palace manager Oliver Glasner is hopeful Eze will not join Arsenal this summer, as he took aim at the Eagles' lack of transfer activity. More Trending
Speaking to local newspaper Kronen Zeitung, Glasner said: 'Even though all the players are still here, we haven't made the most of the transfer window so far
'I was promised that we would be more active and bring in the new players earlier this year.
'As of now, I have 17 outfield players. I hope we don't lose any more. If that happens and we get four new ones on deadline day like last year, another false start is possible.'
It should be noted that Palace chairman Steve Parish has currently shown no indication he would be open to negotiating a lower price for Eze.

Fernandes critical of 'lazy' Manchester United in pre-season draw with Everton
Aug 4 (Reuters) - Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes let rip at his teammates following their 2-2 pre-season draw with fellow Premier League side Everton, saying their performance was "lazy" and calling for further reinforcements. A second-half goal from Mason Mount had United on course for victory in Atlanta, Georgia after Fernandes's opener was cancelled out by Iliman Ndiaye, but a bizarre 75th-minute own goal by Ayden Heaven gifted Everton the draw on Sunday. The draw put a slight damper on the Old Trafford club's tour of the United States, after promising victories over West Ham United and Bournemouth last month. "It's been important for developing how we want to play and getting the new players involved too," Fernandes told NBC Sports. "We didn't want to finish in this way. Our performance wasn't the best and we were a little bit lazy today. We want to avoid that because with laziness you can pay at any moment." United had their worst-ever Premier League campaign in the 2024-25 season, finishing 15th in the standings, and are looking to strengthen in the transfer window, signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo - both of whom started against Everton. "It's improving. But it's not the place it needs to be. I don't want to take a dig at anyone but the club is doing the best they can in terms of the financial situation they talk about," Fernandes said. "But it was crystal clear we needed more competition for the players that were here, more quality to get everyone to step up a little more to get to the XI, and I think that is what the club are trying to do. "Hopefully we can get one or two players more to help with that." Asked about Fernandes's comments, manager Ruben Amorim told reporters: "I think I'm happy for the players to have that feeling. It's saying that they understand the situation. So, it's a good feeling. "I think the momentum of the tour was perfect. We had the weeks to work with a good environment, good feeling, and then we go back to Carrington (training ground) and we are near to start the season. "We are going with the feeling that we need to do a lot of things (better)." United begin the new Premier League season against Arsenal on August 17.

Micah Richards urges Mikel Arteta to replace £50m Arsenal star
Micah Richards has given his verdict on marquee Arsenal signing Viktor Gyokeres and urged Mikel Arteta to replace Gabriel Martinelli. Arsenal have put their faith in Gyokeres to solve their goalscoring problems, signing the Sweden international from Sporting for £64m. Gyokeres enjoyed two sensational seasons at Sporting, scoring 97 goals in 104 appearances, and rejected Manchester United and his former manager Ruben Amorim in favour of a move to Arsenal. Richards believes Gyokeres will be a 'very good signing' for Arsenal, although he admits there are still some 'question marks' over the 27-year-old forward. Arsenal have turned their attentions to signing a new left-winger since completing a deal for Gyokeres and Richards supports that move, claiming Martinelli should now be viewed as an 'impact player' rather than a starter in Arteta's squad. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link we'll send you so we can get football news tailored to you. The Gunners are interested in signing England forward Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace and Richards insists that would be an 'amazing' signing. The arrival of another forward and particularly a left-winger would increase the chances of Martinelli – and Leandro Trossard – of leaving after both players have been heavily linked with a summer move earlier on the window. Asked about Arsenal's transfer business on The Rest Is Football podcast, ex-England defender Richards said: 'How many times have we said Arsenal need a new striker? We said it every week last season. 'They've needed one for a while now. I still believe they need a left winger as well… they've been linked with Eze haven't they. 'I think Martinelli can definitely do a job but he's more of an impact player right now, great to have off the bench, so if they could get Eze that would be amazing. 'In terms of Gyokeres, I think it's a very good signing but I still think there are question marks if he can do it at this level consistently. 'I've watched loads of videos of him and I think he's really good with his movement, he's a really clever striker. 'I don't think people should expect him to hold the ball up really well because I saw some times when it came off him but he still scored two goals in the match so he got lots of praise. 'He will cause teams problems though and he's exactly what Arsenal needed, for sure.' More Trending Martinelli, who made 51 appearances for Arsenal last season, was linked with Bayern Munich earlier in the summer but the Bundesliga champions have since signed Luis Diaz from Liverpool. Arteta is reportedly keen for Martinelli to stay put despite the increased competition at the Emirates Stadium. If he is sold, Arsenal would want at least £50m for the Brazil international. While Martinelli could yet feature for Arsenal next season, Belgium star Trossard is 'increasingly likely' to leave. The £27m Arteta signing has emerged as a target for Borussia Dortmund and has also received 'concrete offers' from two unnamed Premier League clubs. For more stories like this, check our sport page.
