By: GL Oh Text Size: The Sabah contingent with medal winners who took home four gold and two bronze medals Kota Kinabalu: Sabah bowlers dominated the SportExcel-NSC-Milo-MTBC Junior Circuit Tenpin Bowling Championship 2025 (Sarawak Leg) held at the Megalanes East, Miri Megamall in Sarawak. They took home four gold and two bronze medals in the three-day competition that concluded Thursday (July 3).
Advertisement The gold medal winners were Muhammad Hafiz Saiful (Boys Under 12) who defeated Jasmy Zhariff Jasmawardhy 202-131 in the final, Muhammad Faris Faiq Afillah (Boys Graded) after beating Alvin Voon Dong Cheng 224-157, Miasara Adawiyah Saiful (Girls Graded) with the 159-156 victory over Arwynn Galleina Anak Arthur Ray and Awang Syamsul Khusairi Awang Samsudin (Boys Open) who beat Mohd Iman Hareez Mohd Nizam 236-189. The bronze medals were delivered by Dayang Hasya Izz Zayani (Girls Under 12) and Lynette Ho Kang Ling (Girls Graded). Sabah Tenpin Bowling Association (STBA) President Rozzainny Sham Talip was delighted with the success of the team and congratulated the winners. 'Well done for winning four gold and two bronze medals for the State. Congratulations to the medal winners and also to all the athletes who successfully advanced to the top eight stages. 'I hope they were able to gain the knowledge and experience to achieve even greater success at the Sabah leg round later,' he said. Charlayne finishes third at Selangor meet

Her one-under 218 total also missed the play-off by mere one shot from eventual winner Indonesian Bianca Naomi Laksono and Filipina Samantha Dizon. Advertisement The 23-year-old Sabahan, who just won the 48th Kelantan Amateur Open Golf Champion a week ago, continued her fine form on day one. She stunned the field with a 68 in the opening round to take the lead. However, she faltered the following day with a disastrous 80, but managed to make amends on the final day with a 69. Despite the below-par performance on day two, she said she never gave up. Advertisement 'It was a bit of a bummer that my performance dipped on the second day after starting the tournament strong. 'I think I felt a bit of pressure and I just couldn't find my rhythm. Still, I never lost hope. My main goal for this event was to apply what I learned from my previous tournament and to stay in control of my emotions and thoughts, lower my expectations, and take the pressure off. 'I'm proud to say I managed to achieve that goal and as a bonus, I managed to make a comeback and recover on the final day. I may have missed out by just one stroke, but I'm genuinely happy that I stayed calm and composed right up to the last hole. 'Although I was hoping to make the playoffs, I'll take the result proudly as being able to bounce back meant a lot to me,' she said. Azizul back on his own special bike as he eyes spot for world meet
PETALING JAYA: After a long lull, track cyclist Azizulhasni Awang is back on the saddle of his specially fitted WX-R Vorteq bicycle as he eyes a spot in the team for the World Championships in Chile, Santiago, from Oct 22-26. The 2020 Olympic silver medallist revealed on his social media account that he was back at the Joe Caviola Velodrome in Melbourne, Australia, to start training on the bicycle, which was specially engineered to his physique and racing needs. "I am back at this velodrome after about one year has passed. "How happy I am to step into the Joe Caviola Velodrome. This was the first place I trained when I first came to Melbourne in 2007. I came at that time with the intention to raise the country's name," said the two-time Olympic medal winner in keirin. "Nothing has changed and my determination stays the same.'' After leaving fans in the dark since his heartbreaking exit from the Paris Olympics last year, the former world champion cleared the air in May regarding his future by announcing that he will continue racing. Azizul, who had previously hinted at retiring, will continue as a professional rider while receiving backing from the government in the form of a RM200,000 grant from the Youth and Sports Ministry through the National Sports Council (NSC). The grant is to help him with training and competition expenses for the 2025-2026 period. Azizul, who will now compete under Team Azizul, said the NSC also gave the nod for him to continue using his WX-R Vorteq bicycle. "This bike was made for me – no one else can really use it. "I am at the early phase of preparation. I was at the National Velodrome in Nilai to train with the guys back home before this but this is the first time I am back on the WX-R Vorteq bike. "I want to maximise my time here and see where I stand from the data gained. "Hopefully, I will improve further in the coming weeks," said the 37-year-old, who was recently named as the brand ambassador for Volkswagen Malaysia and Malaysia Airlines.

Chelsea defender Colwill out of action with ACL injury

(EPA Images pic) Chelsea centre back Levi Colwill suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in training, the Premier League club said late on Thursday, with the 22-year-old expected to miss much of the new season. The England international underwent successful surgery on the injury, Chelsea added. Advertisement It typically takes some six to nine months for a player to recover from an ACL injury and return to action. 'The 22-year-old had reported back to Cobham for pre-season at the start of this week before unfortunately sustaining the injury in training,' Chelsea said in a statement. 'Medical assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action. 'Levi will now begin his recovery and be supported by the club's medical department at Cobham during his rehabilitation phase.' Advertisement Colwill made 43 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season and helped the West London side win the Club World Cup in July.
