The outfit, which has been fighting against waste dumping by BMC near Sainik School, maintained that it inaugurated the plant as its operation will help clear waste from the dump yard. BMC called it intrusion and criminal action as it has already planned the inauguration.
"A large group of unknown individuals led by Basudev Bhatta, president of BUP, and its members unlawfully and forcefully entered the premises of the facility and engaged in violent protest.
The miscreants violated various provisions of BNS. BMC staff present at the units were also threatened," said the BMC complaint at Mancheswar police station.
BMC's facility at Palasuni includes a 150-tonne per day (TPD) capacity mega material recovery facility (MRF), a processing unit for 10,000 coconuts per day, and 20 TPD green waste processing units. The construction work was complete, and BMC was slated to inaugurate it.
"When the BUP members led by Bhatta met us, we assured them of running the Palasuni facility soon. But, they took law into their hands," said BMC additional commissioner Suvendu Sahu.
The outfit strongly demanded immediate removal of the garbage dump, emphasising the severe inconvenience and long-standing suffering of the local residents due to the stench. "On Sunday, we gave in writing to Mancheswar police that we would go to the facility with 500 people as a symbol of inauguration to draw the attention of the govt.

BMC has been unduly dilly-dallying on the operationalisation of the facility.
Residents have been bearing the stench for the past eight months," Bhatta told TOI.
He refuted the BMC allegation that the BUP members unlawfully barged into the premises and threatened staff. According to the outfit, the garbage dump near Sainik School, where 350 metric tonnes of waste is processed daily, has made living conditions unbearable for the residents. Notably, ever since the civic body stopped waste dumping at Daruthenga, a village on the city outskirts in May, it has been dumping at least 50 per cent of the total 800 metric tonnes of waste generated daily near Sainik School dump yard.

Ex-boyfriend of Kendrapara girl arrested
Kendrapara: The ex-boyfriend of the 19-year-old woman, who died allegedly by setting herself on fire in Kendrapara district, was arrested on Sunday on charges of abetment of suicide and sexual harassment, police said. The woman's charred body was found on the staircase of her house on August 6, following which her father alleged that her ex-boyfriend shared their intimate videos online, which forced her to take her life. The woman broke up with the accused, Pramod Behera, following which he started threatening to make public their intimate videos. As he sent the videos to different persons, including the woman's father, she took her life, police said. The woman's family had also alleged that she sought the police's help regarding the matter, but no action was taken. The ex-boyfriend was booked under BNS sections 296 (obscene act), 75 (sexual harassment), 78 (stalking) and 108 (abetment of suicide), and sections 66-E and 67-A of the IT Act, Kendrapara SP Siddharth Kataria told reporters. 'There are at least 60 obscene videos in the mobile phone of the accused,' he said. 'The accused had sent one of the videos to the mobile phone of the deceased woman's father on July 17. He has also sent such videos to five-six other persons. He had sent a message to the deceased at 7.34 am on August 6, following which she died. He had also called the victim on August 5,' the SP said. He said the investigators were now waiting for the post-mortem examination reports. Meanwhile, the accused's father threatened that he would also die by setting himself on fire outside the police station if his son was not released. 'I am a poor man because of which justice is denied to me. My son is innocent,' he claimed. The accused's mother and sister admitted that he had a relationship with the victim, but denied that he blackmailed her. They alleged that the woman's father had set his daughter on fire in a case of 'honour killing'. Based on the allegation, police have interrogated the victim's father and brother, besides speaking to her mother. The self-immolation by the female college student had triggered Statewide furore as it came close on the heels two such incidents. While a 20-year-old female student of FM College in Balasore immolated herself on the college campus on July 12 and died two days later while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, another 15-year-old girl from Balanga in Puri district also died from burn injuries on August 2.
