Ex-boyfriend of Kendrapara girl arrested
The woman broke up with the accused, Pramod Behera, following which he started threatening to make public their intimate videos. As he sent the videos to different persons, including the woman's father, she took her life, police said. The woman's family had also alleged that she sought the police's help regarding the matter, but no action was taken.
The ex-boyfriend was booked under BNS sections 296 (obscene act), 75 (sexual harassment), 78 (stalking) and 108 (abetment of suicide), and sections 66-E and 67-A of the IT Act, Kendrapara SP Siddharth Kataria told reporters. 'There are at least 60 obscene videos in the mobile phone of the accused,' he said.
'The accused had sent one of the videos to the mobile phone of the deceased woman's father on July 17. He has also sent such videos to five-six other persons. He had sent a message to the deceased at 7.34 am on August 6, following which she died. He had also called the victim on August 5,' the SP said. He said the investigators were now waiting for the post-mortem examination reports.
Meanwhile, the accused's father threatened that he would also die by setting himself on fire outside the police station if his son was not released. 'I am a poor man because of which justice is denied to me. My son is innocent,' he claimed.
The accused's mother and sister admitted that he had a relationship with the victim, but denied that he blackmailed her. They alleged that the woman's father had set his daughter on fire in a case of 'honour killing'.
Based on the allegation, police have interrogated the victim's father and brother, besides speaking to her mother.
The self-immolation by the female college student had triggered Statewide furore as it came close on the heels two such incidents. While a 20-year-old female student of FM College in Balasore immolated herself on the college campus on July 12 and died two days later while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, another 15-year-old girl from Balanga in Puri district also died from burn injuries on August 2.

Man assaulted by bouncers at Bengaluru pub
The Ashoknagar police have registered a case against bouncers of a pub on Mcgrath Road in Bengaluru for allegedly assaulting a 32-year-old city-based advocate after he questioned them for denying him entry. The victim, Khadar Sha Valli, had gone to the pub along with two of his friends, who came from Hyderabad. After having lunch, they wanted to get into the pub, but were stopped by the security at the entrance. Upon asking, the bouncers allegedly denied them entry citing that he was not wearing shoes. The security also allegedly demanded ₹3,500 as entry fee for each person. When Khadar objected to their behaviour, the bouncers allegedly attacked him and tore his clothes. He sustained injuries on his face, and the police, after getting information about the commotion, rushed to the spot and rescued him. He was brought to the police station, where he filed a complaint against the bouncers, identified as Rakesh and Suhas. The police have registered an FIR against the accused, charging them under BNS sections that deal with voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons, unlawful assembly, and rioting, for further investigation.

Accident at Malabar Hill: 75-yr-old woman killed after getting trapped between BEST bus and car
A 75-year-old woman was killed after she got trapped between a Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) electric bus and a wrongly parked car in the Malabar Hill area on Tuesday. Neeta Nitin Shah, a South Mumbai resident, came under the rear tyre of the BEST bus when it hit her. Police have registered a case against the driver of the BEST bus under charges of rash driving and causing death by negligence. The incident happened opposite the Sahyadri State Guest House at around 8.45 am when Shah was going to Teen Batti from Malabar Hill club. When the BEST bus was heading towards Kamala Nehru Park, the woman came in between the bus and a Skoda car parked in a no-parking zone, a police officer said. When the bus hit her, Shah fell down and came under its rear tyre and suffered severe injuries. The police officers rushed the woman to JJ Hospital, where she was declared brought dead. The bus driver Akshay Avinash Surve, 46, has not been arrested yet. The police have served him a notice under section 35 (3) of the BNS to appear before them, said a senior inspector Vilas Bhosle of the Malabar Hill police station. An FIR was registered against Surve at the Malabar Hill police under sections 106 (1) (causing death by negligence), 282 ( rash driving or riding on a public way) of the BNS along with 184 (drives a motor vehicle at a speed or in a manner which is dangerous to the public) and 122 (leaving vehicle in dangerous position) of the Motor Vehicle Act. The bus is managed by EV Trans under a wet lease arrangement from Mumbai Central Depot. The BEST undertaking said that it will fully cooperate with the police probe and will prevent such accidents in the future. 'We are deeply saddened by this loss and are fully cooperating with the authorities in their investigation. The safety of pedestrians and our commuters remains our highest priority, and we are committed to reviewing all protocols to prevent such incidents in the future,' a BEST spokesperson said.

BKI module busted, 3 juveniles among 5 nabbed: Punjab Police
Jalandhar: Punjab Police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module with the arrest of five people, including three juveniles, from Tonk and Jaipur districts of Rajasthan. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the module was being operated by foreign-based handlers Mannu Agwan, Gopi Nawanshehria, and Zeeshan Akhtar, under the directions of Pakistan-based BKI operative Harwinder Singh alias Rinda. The two adults of the five-member module have been identified as Ritik Naroliya, a resident of Didawata village in Jaipur, Rajasthan; and Sonu Kumar alias Kali, a resident of Kala Sanghian village in Kapurthala. Police also seized a hand grenade and a .30 bore pistol, along with two live cartridges and two empty shells, from the accused. The DGP said the module carried out a grenade attack at a liquor store in Nawanshahr on Aug 7. The DGP added the operatives were tasked with attempting such attacks in the run-up to Independence Day. "The arrested accused were receiving direct instructions from Akhtar and Agwan, who is working in close coordination with Rinda," the DGP said. "We have averted future attacks by this module." 'Accused shot at during seizure' Jalandhar counter-intelligence wing AIG Navjot Mahal said one of the accused in the module, Sonu Kumar alias Kali, was shot when he opened fire at a police team. The AIG claimed that a police team had taken Kali to a spot for seizing a weapon, but the accused picked up the weapon and fired at the team. "In self-defence, the police team retaliated, resulting in a bullet injury to him. He has been admitted to civil hospital, Nawanshahr," Mahal said. An FIR under sections 109, 324(5), and 61(2) of BNS and sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act has been registered at Nawanshahr City police station.
