Andhra govt scared of Jagan's popularity, claims YSRCP leader

News182 days ago
Amaravati, Aug 1 (PTI) Senior YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu on Friday alleged that the TDP-led NDA coalition government was 'scared" of party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's popularity, citing obstructions during Reddy's recent visit to Nellore.
Addressing a press conference here, Rambabu claimed that the alleged fencing and digging of roads leading to the event venue were signs of the government's apprehension about Jagan's popular appeal.
'The coalition is clearly afraid of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's popularity. The unprecedented restrictions during his Nellore tour only underscore that fear. The fencing and digging of roads reflect the extent of the government's anxiety over the crowds he continues to attract," the former minister said.

BJP Demands Urgent Installation of High-Mast Lights at Aija Bus Stand Junction

Gadwal: Led by BJP Aija Town President Kampati Bhagat Reddy, local leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party staged a representation at the main road near the new bus stand, demanding the installation of high-mast street lights at the busy junction. Speaking to the media, Bhagat Reddy criticized the Congress-led government for neglecting public infrastructure and ignoring key civic issues faced by residents, particularly in Jogulamba Gadwal district's Aija Municipality. He highlighted the hardships faced by the public due to the absence of proper lighting at the new bus stand and main junction, which has become increasingly dangerous during night hours. He recalled that in March 2020, during the COVID-19 lockdown, an existing iMAX light pole collapsed due to poor quality, fortunately causing no injuries. However, since then, no action has been taken to restore lighting at the crucial junction, leaving the area in darkness for over four years. Multiple representations were made in the past: To former Municipal Commissioners on September 28 and October 24, 2024 To the current Commissioner on June 2, 2025 And to the District Collector on March 13, 2025 Following the Collector's intervention, 20 high-mast lights were sanctioned to Aija Municipality in May 2025. However, Bhagat Reddy alleged that these lights were selectively installed in areas favorable to Congress leaders, without any consultation with municipal officials or public representatives, ignoring more critical locations like the new bus stand junction. He demanded immediate action from the Municipality Commissioner, the District Collector, and the State Government, urging them to prioritize the safety and convenience of the general public. 'If the government fails to respond and install the high-mast lights at the junction without delay, the BJP will take to the streets along with the public and organize massive protests,' warned Bhagat Reddy. Present at the event were: District Council Member Pradeep Kumar, Aija Town Vice-President Lakshman Goud, OBC Morcha District Committee Members Lakshmachari, Raghu, Veeresh, Venkatesh, and Shivayya among others.

Alleging corruption, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday hit out at the BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh over waterlogging in several districts across the state. (File Photo) In a statement issued on Sunday, the SP chief said: 'Loot and corruption are at their peak in the BJP government, which has embezzled the budget in the name of smart cities, including Lucknow, which are in a shambles, while roads are dotted with potholes everywhere.' 'Waterlogging and potholed roads have endangered people's lives. With ₹20,000 crore spent in Prayagraj, what have people got except waterlogging? The water-filled deep pits have exposed the BJP government's scams and frauds,' Akhilesh added. He also criticised the government over the flood situation in various districts. 'From Prayagraj to Varanasi, thousands of houses are inundated with floodwaters. The government was ill-prepared to deal with the floods and ensure rescue and relief. It is busy fulfilling its own interests instead of working in the public interest,' he alleged. 'The government has left the common people to fend for themselves. Farmers and the common man are disappointed with the BJP government's attitude,' the SP chief said.

KTR urges party cadre to ensure victory in Jubilee Hills bypoll

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao urged the public to teach a befitting lesson to the Congress for betraying every section of Telangana society through false promises and deceptive declarations. He warned that even existing welfare schemes may be discontinued if people vote for the Congress candidate in the Jubilee Hills constituency's bypoll. Speaking at a meeting with party workers from the Jubilee Hills constituency, Mr. Rama Rao alleged that top Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, misled the people of Telangana with fake guarantees during the elections. He reminded the gathering that several welfare schemes have already been stopped since the Congress came to power. 'The Congress believes that people have accepted their scams and corruption, and hence have even halted developmental works,' he said. Alleging that both the BJP and Congress are working hand-in-glove in the State, he said, 'The BJP-led central government is shielding Revanth Reddy's corruption, which is why Prime Minister Modi hasn't filed a single case against him.' He alleged that the only agenda of these two parties is to defeat the Telangana-based party, BRS. Earlier, Mr. Rama Rao paid tributes to late MLA Maganti Gopinath and said that the bypoll, necessitated by his untimely demise, should be taken seriously. He called on the cadre to work hard to ensure victory. 'Let us hoist the pink flag once again in Jubilee Hills as a tribute to Gopinath,' he told party workers. He directed each worker to take responsibility for at least 100 votes or 25 households and explain the difference between KCR's administration and the current Congress regime to the public.
