Sudesh Lehri opens up about being illiterate because family couldn't afford school fees; now owns five houses and wears designer clothes

Comedian Sudesh Lehri opened up about his youth in Amritsar, and said that he never went to school because his family couldn't afford to send him to one. As a result, he cannot speak in English, and is practically illiterate. In an interview, he said that he hired a manager to look after his business matters after he was duped on the first season of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. He said that he didn't know the difference between 'fifty' and 'fifteen', and when he was asked how much he wanted on the show, he said 'Rs 15,000', even though the number in his mind was 50. It was after this incident that he hired a manager.
Appearing on Aman Aujla's podcast, he opened up about the harsh conditions he experienced in his youth, when his family had only Rs 100 to celebrate Diwali. 'I was 17 when I got married. My wife was 15. We had no idea what we were doing. When we had kids, we didn't know what to do. There was no money. Everything was makeshift. We couldn't afford hospital fees either,' he said, adding, 'I'm uneducated. I'm illiterate. I never went to school, not even nursery or kindergarten. I've never been inside a school. We didn't have the money. I used to work for pennies at shops. I worked as a mechanic. I couldn't read signboards even. But I knew I wanted to become an actor. I couldn't read, but I could memorise lines.'

Asked about his relationship with money now that he owns several houses, drives in huge cars, and wears designer clothes, he said, 'I believe in spending money. Money is of no use if it's lying in your account. I remember when I was a kid in Amritsar, we didn't have money to buy firecrackers or sweets on Diwali. I asked how much we have, and they said we had Rs 100. I thought that was a lot, because you're not going to eat 2 kgs of sweets by yourself, are you? I bought sweets for Rs 50, and then a couple of candles. We had the best Diwali. I took everyone to our roof, and told them to imagine that our neighbours were our servants. They were lighting firecrackers at our command, because we didn't want to get our hands dirty. I told them to use their imagination.'
He said that he would even imagine going to five-star hotels for dinners. 'I believe in spending money. My first car was a second-hand Indigo, and I had so much fun with it. Then, there was a time when I had five houses in Mumbai,' he said, adding that his son encourages him to buy designer clothes. 'I don't even understand the appeal, but he likes it, and eventually he's the one who ends up wearing my Gucci shoes,' Sudesh said.

BTS' RM on craving a ‘simple life' to feel alive; reveals why he can't do it for long: ‘I feel becoming closer to my true self when…'

BTS' RM, aka Kim Namjoon, recently graced the cover of Harper's Bazaar Korea for their September edition. With pre-orders surging on Weverse, the magazine dropped preview images and excerpts offering a glimpse into the Indigo hitmaker's reflections on life, post-military thoughts, and how stepping into the world of luxury as a brand ambassador shifted his perspective, from camera-shy idol to someone searching for more depth in photographs. The three photos released show RM in bold form, blending his artistic vision with high-fashion glamour. With a presence more confident than ever, the shots pop with colour and style tailored to match the rapper's vibe, popular yet grounded. Also read: BTS' RM says mental health worsened amid HYBE issues, had to rely on pills: 'I cried all night, kept saying I was going to die' In a later interview with the magazine, RM admitted that representing a brand isn't exactly easy at this point in his life. The rapper, now the first-ever brand ambassador for Bottega Veneta and recently tapped as global ambassador for Samsung Art TV, reflected on how his relationship with the camera has shifted. 'Back then, I wanted to look photogenic, so I'd practice poses and expressions alone in front of the mirror,' he said (Via Osen) 'Now, having my picture taken feels heavier, more of a task.' Still, he said, teaming up with familiar names, 'favourite media, photographers, staff', made the process easier. 'Once I did it, I felt proud. I even enjoyed it.' Also read: 'We bet on J-Hope after Doja Cat said no': Lollapalooza organiser admits not realising how big BTS was; Katseye rules the fest three years later The rapper, known for answering questions with a kind of blunt honesty that even he admits makes his agency squirm sometimes, was asked what makes him feel most alive, especially now, with the spotlight constantly on him. RM revealed two sides of himself: 'As RM of BTS, it's when I'm performing, or when I just released an album, or when I stand in front of my fans in my most confident and proud way.' But then there's the other side, as Kim Namjoon, who craves the quiet, the unbothered life. 'As Kim Namjoon, it's when I feel like I'm becoming closer to my true self without hesitation while being with people I like. Or when I'm doing what I want in a place where no one recognises me.' Namjoon's thing for travel and wandering through art galleries isn't a secret, but he's honest about the limits of it. 'Travelling seems to be the closest thing to that, but honestly, I can't stay long and want to come home soon. And working on music again makes me feel alive again.' RM has spoken in the past about the strange mix of love and resentment that fame brings. As the leader of one of the most influential groups in the world, he's been honest about the weight that comes with it. He's questioned why so many musicians write about love, and why they keep returning to it. In a 2023 appearance on Cold's Blue Room, he said, 'As we're living in a social world, it's become very easy to express emotions of hatred and despise. I think it's gross to see someone who has so much hateful energy toward someone else. I mean, of course, we can talk about sadness and hatred, but at the end of the day, speaking of love and spreading love and positive energy is a virtue, and that's what I believe so.' On the work front, BTS is gearing up for a 2026 comeback with a new album. The group is currently filming in the U.S. for their next release.

Coolie: Will Aamir Khan's cameo be enough to elevate Rajinikanth's Tamil gangster drama in Hindi?

Rajinikanth is gearing up for the release of Coolie, one of the biggest films of the year. The film has created a buzz among fans as it features the veteran mass hero in a new avatar. It has been dubbed in Hindi as Coolie The Powerhouse. This version will be released alongside the original Tamil version on August 14. Aamir Khan essays a key role in the gangster drama and many expect him to drive the film's business in Hindi. This, however, may not be the case. Coolie: A single star alone can't benefit the film, says trade analyst Aamir Khan has a cameo in Coolie and features prominently in the trailer. He is regarded as one of Bollywood's biggest names and recently gave strong proof of his star power with Sitaare Zameen Par, which grossed Rs 263 crore (approx) at the box office and emerged as a blockbuster. His popularity, however, may not be enough to compel the audience to watch Coolie in Hindi. Rohit Jaiswal, a trade analyst, told Indiatimes that it is 'irrelevant' to discuss Aamir's impact on Coolie's collections in Hindi as 'no single star' can determine the date of a film. 'The trailer was okay. Aamir is a star but ultimately we go to watch a film based on the content. If the content is good, Coolie will be a success. However, I don't see his involvement alone benefiting the business,' he said. Vettaiyan, Rajinikanth's previous release, too didn't find many takers in Hindi despite the fact that it featured Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan in a key role. The action thriller collected just Rs 4.51 crore in Hindi and ended up as a flop. It remains to be seen whether Coolie, which is set to clash with War 2, does better than Vettaiyan on this front. About Coolie Coolie is a gangster drama directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. It revolves around a former kingpin with an axe to grind with some old foes. The film also explores the murky world of gold smuggling. Shruti Haasan makes an effortlessly stunning entry!❣️ #CoolieUnleashed ✨@rajinikanth @Dir_Lokesh @anirudhofficial #AamirKhan @iamnagarjuna @nimmaupendra #SathyaRaj #SoubinShahir @shrutihaasan #Coolie #CoolieFromAug14 The trailer suggests that it features action sequences, punch dialogues, and catchy songs. The cast is headlined by Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Nagarjuna, and Shruti Haasan. It will hit the screens on August 14 alongside Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2.
