Hyderabad tops as 84% students clear Polycet-2025
Hyderabad: As many as 84.3% of candidates qualified the State Polytechnic Common Entrance Test (Polycet-2025), conducted by the State Board of Technical Education and Training (SBTET).
Of the 98,858 students who appeared for the test, 83,364 cleared the exam across the two streams — MPC (Maths, Physics, Chemistry) and MBiPC (Maths, Biology, Physics, Chemistry).
The results were announced on Saturday by technical education commissioner A Sridevasena at the SBTET office in Masab Tank. Polycet serves as the gateway to polytechnic colleges across Telangana, offering diploma courses in engineering, non-engineering, and technology, and is also used for admissions into diploma courses in state universities.
Hyderabad recorded the highest number of qualifiers, with 9,258 in MPC and 9,213 in MBiPC, followed by Hanumakonda (5,220 MPC and 5,321 MBiPC) and Nizamabad (4,817 MPC and 4,939 MBiPC).
Continuing the trend from the past two years, girls fared better than boys, with 88.5% qualifying compared to 80.6% of boys. Of the 53,085 boys who appeared, 42,836 qualified, while 40,528 of the 45,773 girls cleared the exam.
In a noteworthy achievement, all 7,459 candidates from Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities qualified.
Among 18,039 Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates, only two did not qualify, with the remaining 18,037 cleared the exam.
Officials added that a separate admission notification will be issued for diploma programmes offered by Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, Sri Konda Laxman Telangana State Horticultural University, and PV Narsimha Rao Telangana Veterinary University.

Viksit Krishi drive aims to boost farm productivity in Uttar Pradesh: Minister
Uttar Pradesh agriculture minister Surya Pratap Shahi on Friday said the ongoing Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan-2025 (May 29–June 12) aims to enhance farm productivity and farmers' income through adoption of advanced agricultural techniques. Addressing a joint press conference with minister of state Baldev Singh Aulakh, Shahi said the campaign was being run at 10,125 locations across all 75 districts, training over 8.39 lakh farmers— including 1.91 lakh women—through field-level interactions and scientific demonstrations. 'The initiative, launched by chief minister Yogi Adityanath on May 29, has the participation of 550 agricultural scientists, along with departments of horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries, silk, water resources and cooperatives,' he said. A total of 4.58 lakh free minikits, including pulses, oilseeds, millets and groundnut, will be distributed to promote Kharif 2025 sowing, Shahi added. The government, according to him, has sanctioned ₹410.67 crore for the campaign under various central schemes, including Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, Food and Nutritional Security and Krishonnati Yojana. Calling it a step toward the 'lab to land' vision, the minister urged public representatives and the media to actively support the campaign to ensure timely and effective transfer of technology to farmers.

Latest technologies like AI, IoT need to be used to improve quality of data: CEA
New Delhi, Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran on Thursday said latest technology, including artificial intelligence and internet of things, need to be used to improve quality of data, which is the bedrock of policymaking. Addressing the National Workshop on Using Alternate Data Sources and Frontier Technologies for Policy Making, Nageswaran emphasised that data generated by statistical systems and alternate data complement each other, rather than substituting each other. He said the latest trends in technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), internet of things (IoT), have to go hand in hand with skilling of manpower, ensuring authenticity, reliability of the data quality with advanced design of algorithms holds the key in this endeavour. He further mentioned that data generated by the statistical systems has been the bed rock of policymaking in India. Suman K Bery, Vice Chairperson NITI Aayog and Chairman, EAC to the PM, said the way forward on integration of conventional data with alternate data sources. Bery focused on utilising data generated through traditional modes of data collection and rigorous statistical analysis forming the basis for evidence-based policymaking . He highlighted the importance of ensuring quality of administrative data. The insights from traditional as well as alternate data sources need to be strengthened with emphasis on data processing and assimilation, he added. Statistics and Programme Implementation Secretary Saurabh Garg said MoSPI has been brainstorming from the last couple of years as to how alternate data sources can be integrated in the existing national statistical system and this workshop is the culmination of the efforts made in past. With the objective of enhancing harmonisation of data having practical utility, Garg enlisted five key building blocks -- meta data structures, international and national classifications, unique identifiers, self-quality assessment tools, and reconciliation of diverse data to achieve such endeavour. P R Mesharam, Director General (Data Governance), MoSPI, reiterated that NSO India, with its time-tested statistical products, has facilitated the evidence-based policy making over a long period of time. The need of the hour is to use alternative data sources and frontier technologies to strengthen data eco-system of the country and provide data for evidence-based decision making in real time, he said. He added that this is in line with developing enhanced statistical capabilities "supporting our vision of becoming a developed nation". On the opening day of the workshop, MoSPI also released annual publication 'EnviStats India, 2025: Environment Statistics'. The publication is a key resource for policymakers, researchers and other stakeholders, offering a comprehensive overview of the country's environmental landscape.
