Calling for a multipolar and inclusive world order, the Prime Minister stated that global governance institutions such as the UN Security Council, the IMF, the World Bank, and the WTO must undergo urgent reform to reflect contemporary realities. He thanked the leaders for highlighting the urgency of UN Security Council reform and adopting a strong language on the issue in the Summit Declaration.
On Peace and Security, the Prime Minister underlined that terrorism was a grave threat facing humanity. In this context, he noted that the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025 was not just an attack on India, but an onslaught on all of humanity.
Calling for strong global action against terrorism, the Prime Minister noted that those funding, promoting or providing safe havens to terrorists must be dealt with in the harshest terms. He emphasised that there should be no double standards in dealing with terrorism. He thanked the BRICS leaders for condemning the Pahalgam terror attack in the strongest terms. Calling upon the BRICS countries to strengthen the global fight against terrorism, he emphasised that there should be zero tolerance in dealing with the menace, as per the statement.
Further elaborating on the subject, the Prime Minister noted that conflicts, from West Asia to Europe, were a matter of deep concern. He further added that India has always called for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve such conflicts and was ready to contribute towards such efforts.

He stated that at a time when the world order was under pressure and the global community was facing uncertainty and challenges, the relevance of BRICS was evident.
He further added that BRICS could play an important role in shaping a multipolar world. In this regard, he offered four suggestions: one, the BRICS New Development Bank must follow demand driven principle and long-term sustainability for granting projects; two, the group consider setting up a Science and Research repository which could benefit the global south countries; three, focus must be given to make the supply chain of critical minerals secured and resilient; and, four, the group should work for responsible AI - while looking into the concerns of AI governance, it should also give equal importance to promoting innovation in the field, the statement said.
After the Leaders' Session, the member countries adopted the 'Rio de Janeiro Declaration'. (ANI)

PM Modi's speech on Sindoor: Tectonic shift in Indian politics

Operation Sindoor is a testament to what has happened to Bharat that is India over the past 11 years. A significantly reformed, rebuilt and indigenised Indian armed forces demonstrated what the nation is capable of once the shackles of prolonged foreign subjugation of policy idiocy end read more Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech on the floor of the Lok Sabha on Operation Sindoor was an astonishing masterclass. It will go down as his finest hour and the most outstanding performance by an Indian political leader since Independence. Modi demolished all the treasonous slander and libel of India's so-called political Opposition, in the wake of Pahalgam and Operation Sindoor. Prime Minister Modi eloquently asserted the quest for India's unfinished goal of statehood in its most formative historical phase since the coronation of Chhatrapati Maharaj at Raigad Fort in 1674. No nation can be built by one solitary individual alone, but if anyone has a claim to being its driving contemporary force it's surely Narendra Damodar Modi. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD In just over a decade the change he has wrought to the Indian nation is unprecedented. It is more impressive than the achievements of Otto von Bismarck and Giuseppe Garibaldi, who had force at their disposal, to create modern Germany and Italy in the nineteenth century. By contrast Prime Minister Modi has had to navigate the most intolerably vexatious political order of truculent anarchy and constitutional roadblocks to pursue the imperative goal of placing the nation on a secure footing and institutionalizing its essential multidimensional attributes. Prime Minister Modi's speech followed three superb performances by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Home Minister Amit Shah that laid out in exact detail and sequence the purposes and achievements of Operation Sindoor. But it was the Prime Minister who deployed a scalpel with precision, engaged in unforgiving historical analysis of Congress party history and precise chronological detail of the momentous events after the brutal murders of Pahalgam. He proceeded to unsparingly dissect the grotesque absurdity of India's political Opposition and its entitled so-called Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi. One by one, he summarised the calamitous missteps of the Congress party following Independence, especially Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, whose arrogant self-confidence despite utter incompetence have cost Indian dear. The most grievous losses to India occurred immediately after Independence because of his unctuous deference to Viceroy Lord Mountbatten and obsession with Edwina, his wife. Mountbatten presided over the colossal bloodletting of Partition despite being warned by his own officials it was going to occur, but Nehru nevertheless proceeded to retain him as Governor-General. Most egregiously he retained British Generals as India's army chiefs of staff who duly betrayed India as it was poised to retake J&K in entirety and potentially liberate the strategically vital territory of Gilgit Baltistan. A grim account of events has been provided by India's commanding officer during the war, Lionel Pratap Sen in his memoirs, Slender was the Thread. Nehru proceeded to betray Tibet by assisting its conquest by China, extending logistical support to it during the invasion. His monumental stupidity subsequently led to military defeat in 1962 when China attacked India and the loss of the Aksai Chin. Nehru ignored warnings by his most brilliant China expert, Sumol Sinha, whom he banished to Harvard in annoyance when alerted of the impending danger posed by China. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD In the aftermath of the 1962 military catastrophe, he sought to ingratiate himself with Mountbatten again and supposedly secure his place in history, by ceding the Kashmir Valley to Pakistan. Thankfully, the negotiations he had sponsored in London faltered after Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto ceded the Shaksgam Valley to China and Nehru died before any resumption of talks was feasible. The other grievous error was committed by his daughter, Indira Gandhi. After India's historic military defeat of Pakistan in 1971 she mistakenly acquiesced to Soviet implorations and failed to retain vital Indian strategic gains made in the battlefield. The Soviets persuaded her not to impose a harsh peace on Pakistan at Simla because their vital SALT talks with the US were scheduled for the same year. A visionary stateswoman would have ignored Soviet requests, despite their important help during the conflict, and pursued urgent Indian national interests, facing down Soviet displeasure. The astonishing calumny and legal assault Narendra Modi has suffered for almost twenty-three years would have defeated and broken a lesser man, but he's evidently made of sterner stuff than most. But it is a cause of deep shame that his role as Prime Minister of India has not spared him the most despicable abuse from which the dignity of his office should have shielded him. But Modi was apparently intended for a higher purpose, as his former adviser the immensely learned and wise, late Bibek Debroy once prophetically pointed out. The dismal misconduct of Congress party apparatchiks is a reflection of the low mindset that has consumed the party today. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Rahul Gandhi himself is beyond redemption and the people of India have by now figured him out. His constant refrain inviting Modi to publicly denounce President Donald Trump as a liar, over claims he ensured the cessation of hostilities in the context of Operation Sindoor, is oblivious to the consequence of such observations by Modi prompting a huge setback in India-US relations, at a time when sensitive negotiations are in train between the two counties. His undue sensitivity towards two of the world's most criminal regimes, with prodigious quantities of blood on their hands over many decades, has not made him reflect. The millions of famine victims of China's Great Leap Forward and the genocidal war against the Hindus of East Pakistan in 1971 are crying out plaintively to no avail. Such is the temperament of Rahul Gandhi. Operation Sindoor is a testament to what has happened to Bharat that is India over the past 11 years. A significantly reformed, rebuilt and indigenised Indian armed forces demonstrated what the nation is capable of once the shackles of prolonged foreign subjugation of policy idiocy end. The innovative genius of Indians was illustrated not just by the array of missiles designed and manufactured domestically, but how an outdated arsenal of guns was adapted with inventive new technology to return to the battlefield as highly efficient and cost-effective weaponry. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The imperative of an efficacious military is essential for deterrence and infinitely cheaper than warfighting and that's the direction in which Modi's has been headed. In fact, Operation Sindoor continued with India's security agencies eliminating the killers of Pahalgam after a relentless search operation. Let it also be registered that both Pahalgam and Pakistani responses to India's Operation Sindoor were a joint effort, with the terrorists and Pakistani terrorist army using Chinese equipment, from missiles and aircraft to machine guns and satellite phones. The transformation of India's defence sector is a metaphor for the advances in its wider economy of a massive infrastructure building surge, the absence of which earlier constrained economic progress. This key endeavour in lowering logistical costs and the implementation of unprecedented new associated dimensions, underlined by India's digitisation and startups, will be the basis of a robust and internationally competitive economy. Combined with multiple measures to reduce poverty, highlighted by India's forward leap in the recent World Bank Gini coefficient rankings, India will surely incarnate a new dharmic socio-economic order in the making. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD This is the scale of Narendra Modi's achievements and it's a tragic irony that many supposedly sensible, allegedly educated Indians don't see it, missing the forest for the trees, a chronic historic propensity of Hindus. The great danger remains that the well thought out Congress party strategy of inciting bitter caste animosity and the mobilisation of India's growing jihadi constituency will upset India's progressing apple cart. There should be no doubt the entire Congress strategy, the tried and tested Karnataka model, is perfectly rational and hugely portentous. It aims to seize power electorally by organising the intransigent Muslim vote-bank alongside disaffected caste constituencies and contrived regional discontent to establish a victorious coalition. Such a political situation will threaten India's sovereignty and independence as a nation and the dreams of its historic transformation, with mutually dependent Islamic and foreign interests conjoining to successfully seizing India from within. But the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor and the spectacular performance of the Prime Minister and his team also suggest the possibility of a reprieve for India in 2029 and, hopefully, beyond too. Once the Indian economy reaches its $10 trillion GDP target it will be unstoppable and secure. MP raises issue of farmers' loss caused by wild boars in Parliament

For the second time in the past four months, MP Robert Bruce has raised in Parliament the issue of Tirunelveli district farmers' sufferings due to crop-raiding wild boars, which are protected by the Wildlife Protection Act. Since the farmers having their cultivable lands within 25 km from the Western Ghats have to tackle natural calamities and wild animal invasion, their income is seriously impacted by the wild animals invading their ranches. The farmers, who try to chase the animals back into the forest, are attacked by these animals, especially by wild boar herds. At least two wild boar attack incidents are reported in the district every month. Even though the Tamil Nadu Government was promising the agriculturists of removing the wild boar from the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 as done by the Kerala Government, which enable the farmers to hunt down the crop-raiding wild boars, no step has been taken by the government in this direction till today. Instead, the government announced that the trained forest department officials would shoot down the wild boars entering the fields situated 5 km away from the reserve forest boundary. And, this announcement is also yet to be translated into action even as the farmers have been left at the mercy of wild boars. Hence, Mr. Robert Bruce raised this perennial problem in the Parliament in April last and again in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The MP said the agrarian district of Tirunelveli was suffering huge crop loss during every season not due to the nature's vagary but because of the crop-raiding wild boar herds that enter the ranches to cause extensive damage to the standing crops. While the loss caused by these invading wild animals is huge, the compensation given to the poor farmers is very little. 'The Narendra Modi-led Government, which promised to double the farmers' income by 2022, should at least increase the compensation for the crop damage caused by the wild animals, especially the wild boars. Moreover, the Union Government should remove the wild boar from Schedule III of Wildlife Protection Act 1972, so that either the State Governments or the farmers themselves can take on these destructive animals and save the crops,' Mr. Robert Bruce said.

‘No call between PM Modi, Trump during April 22-June 16': Jaishankar flays previous Congress govts for weak response on terror

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, speaking in Rajya Sabha on Operation Sindoor, said Wednesday that were two normals as far as dealing with cross-border terrorism was concerned – the Congress normal and the Modi normal. He was taking a jibe at the Opposition over its responses to earlier terror attacks sponsored by Pakistan vis-à-vis the present government's response to the Pahalgam attack through Operation Sindoor. On the Opposition's continued insinuations with regard to statements by US President Donald Trump on mediating between India and Pakistan, Jaishankar emphatically stated that there was no third-party intervention in bringing about a ceasefire with the neighbouring nation on May 10. 'Kaan khol se sun lein, April 22 se June 16 tak ek bhi phone call President Trump aur Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi ke beech mein nahi huyi (Listen carefully, there wasn't a single phone call between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi from April 22 to June 16),' he said. At the beginning of his hour-long address, Jaishankar mentioned the Congress government's inaction in the wake of the 26/11 Mumbai attack and other such attacks emanating from Pakistan during the party's regime. 'There is a Congress normal, which I spoke about, and there is a Modi normal… The Modi normal is terrorists are not proxies. Number two, cross-border terrorism will get an appropriate response in our way, at our time. Three, talks and terror will not go together. If there are talks, it will only be about terror…number four, we will not give in to nuclear blackmail. And number five, terrorism and good neighbourliness cannot go together,' he said. 'Therefore, sir, blood and water will not flow together. And I know some members raised some issues about it. But I want to say, dams may have taken years to build before. This is the Modi government,' he said. The External Affairs Minister also said terrorism is now on the global agenda only because of the efforts of the Modi government. On Monday, during his address in Lok Sabha on the issue, he had said, 'Operation Sindoor is a new normal in how we respond to terror,' adding, 'We will never bow down to nuclear blackmail.' The minister added that the Modi government has corrected the wrongs of the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's policies by suspending the Indus Water Treaty. 'The treaty signed by then Prime Minister was not to buy peace, but for appeasement,' he said, adding that the pact put the interests of Western Punjab (in Pakistan) over that of farmers from Kashmir and Rajasthan. Jaishankar slams 'China gurus' In his rebuttal, Jaishankar also made an oblique reference to Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Jairam Ramesh as 'China gurus', who took 'private tuitions' from Chinese diplomats. The Congress had recently questioned his visit to China, while Gandhi had warned him about the 'two-front challenge' from China and Pakistan. 'I have spent 41 years in the Foreign Service, only being the longest-serving Ambassador, but there are 'China Gurus'. One of them is the member sitting in front of me (Ramesh), whose affection for China is so great, 'unhone ek sandhi bana li thi India aur China ki, Chindia (he conjoined the words India and China as Chindia)',' Jaishankar said during his address in Parliament. The term 'Chindia' was used by Ramesh in his 2007 book 'Making sense of Chindia: Reflections on China and India'. Continuing his jibe, Jaishankar took on Gandhi, saying that while he may lack knowledge about China, he did not learn about the country through the Olympics, or unlike others who took 'private tuitions' at the home of the Chinese Ambassador. Gandhi had attended the 2008 Beijing Olympics as a special invitee. '…no one called me, I was not a special person. Some people gained their knowledge of China during their visit to the Olympics. Let's not discuss who they met or what they signed. They also took private tuitions at their homes from the Chinese Ambassador,' Jaishankar added, amid objections from the benches across. 'How did China and Pakistan become close?' On his recent China visit, the minister said it was to discuss terrorism, de-escalation, and trade restrictions. 'I had no secret meeting,' he said, adding that the cooperation between Pakistan and China started in the 1960s, but the previous governments did not deal with the neighbour properly. 'China Gurus say that Pakistan and China have close ties, that is true. But how did they come close? It was because in the middle, we had left Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This issue has been happening since 1962-63, Karakoram highway's planning started in 1966 and finished in 1986. You know whose government was there when nuclear collaboration happened in 1976?' he said, in a veiled attack at successive Congress prime ministers. 'Saying that these ties developed overnight means they were sleeping during the history class,' he said, in response to Gandhi's two-front challenge warning. 'By saying that he is giving a warning…were you sleeping in the history class? This cooperation and strategic partnership grew during the UPA regime, as Chinese companies were invited to invest in India,' he said. He also added that India exerted huge pressure on Pakistan through the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) process, and despite not being a member of the UN Security Council (UNSC), India was able to get UN recognition that The Resistance Front (TRF) is a proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT). The TRF had claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack. 'When the Pahalgam attack happened on April 22, it was a shocking attack for a variety of reasons… All of this angered the country,' he said, adding there was grief and shock across the world, 'there was solidarity and sympathy'. 'But the question was, what after that? And the answers were two. One, such an attack was absolutely unacceptable. There had to be severe consequences. And two, there had to be accountability and justice,' he said. In fact, Jaishankar said that Operation Sindoor also did a global service as India reduced to dust terror infrastructure in Pakistan, including in Bahawalpur and Muridke. He also took on the Opposition leaders for seeking evidence of India's military action against Pakistan, saying 'they should watch videos of funerals of terrorists in Pakistan and destruction of airfields in the neighbouring country. 'Modi showed Nehru's mistakes can be corrected' Referring to the Opposition's points about national security, Jaishankar said the biggest damage for India in the last 20 years was the Chinese occupation of Hambantota port in Sri Lanka, but the then government did not act on it. 'We were told for 60 years that nothing can be done. Pandit Nehru's mistakes can't be corrected. The Narendra Modi government showed it can be corrected. The Article 370 was corrected. The Indus Water Treaty is being corrected, it is being held in abeyance until Pakistan irrevocably gives up its support of terrorism. Today, we are demonstrating what we say, we will do,' he said. 'Let me tell you what has changed in the last decade. We have been able to put terrorism in every global agenda. Today, if terrorism is on the global agenda, it is due to the efforts of the Modi government,' he said. 'We were able to get Masood Azhar and Abdul Rehman Makki, two notorious terrorists, placed under the sanction of the UNSC… We were able to, through bilateral agreements and understandings, bring back terrorists from key countries, who have been sent back to India. I remind you that Tahawwur Hussain Rana, who was wanted for the 26/11 Mumbai attack, has finally been brought back to India by the Modi government,' Jaishankar added.
