Family of Southport attack victim Bebe King say her ‘light and spark' live on a year after her death
The six-year-old was killed along with Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, when Axel Rudakubana launched his knife attack on the Taylor Swift-themed dance class in the town on 29 July last year.
On Monday 28 July, a post on the Instagram account of Bebe's Hive referenced the youngster's 'favourite musical' Wicked with the quote: 'Because I knew you, I have been changed for good.'
Bebe's Hive was set up by her family to provide support for grieving children through creativity and connection.
The post, which appeared to have been written by Bebe's mother Lauren, referred to her as 'my mini me' and 'her dad's soulmate'.
It said: 'It's time for us to take the space we need. To feel, to breathe, to hold each other close. To just be.
'To be able to create something so purposeful, so needed, has given us a strength we didn't know we had. A reason. A focus.
'We love and thank every single person who has helped us carry this.
'I feel her with me every day and that feeling is what keeps us going.
'Her light, her care, her spark – it lives on, and we'll continue it for as long as we can.
'To our incredible family and friends – thank you for keeping us afloat, while trying to keep yourselves above water. Thank you for loving Bebe so deeply and for riding this forever journey with us.
'To our amazing community – I don't think you realise what you've done. To everyone further, we also thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
'Your kindness has saved us.
'To Elsie and Alice, we never had the chance to meet you, but we feel like we know you. Your light shines so brightly through your parents, and we're proud to walk alongside them.'
In a reference to the Taylor Swift song Bejeweled, the post went on to say: 'Our girls' energy will continue to shimmer.
'And to every brave child, every adult, every family whose lives were changed forever that day – we see you and we're sending you so much love.'
A video of Bebe dancing and playing with a bubble machine accompanied the caption, along with photos of her.
Sefton Council has asked people not to lay flowers to mark the anniversary of the attack but instead to consider donating to causes including Bebe's Hive, as well as Elsie's Story and Alice's Wonderdance, which were set up in the victim's memories.
A three-minute silence will be held in the town at 3pm on Tuesday 29 July.

A journalist has been fired from her anchor job after claiming that she had been mistreated an exclusive restaurant in Mexico City, and harassing of one of its employees in a viral video. Claudia Mollinedo and three of her female friends gathered for Saturday dinner at upscale restaurant Bagatelle, but stayed well past the venue's official closing time of 1am. The former actress claimed that after running up a bill of 25,000 pesos – around $1,330 – the staff turned on the lights at 1:30 am and then began to clean the restaurant before telling them it was already time for them to leave. The upset group stood in front of Bagatelle while Mollinedo went on a full tirade. '[We are] outraged because here in this restaurant called Bagatelle in Polanco where we paid almost 25,000 pesos for the bill, they kicked us out, they left us outside,' Mollinedo said in the recording that she posted on her Instagram Stories. 'In the street, literally, 1:30 in the morning' one of her friends then said while cutting her off. Mollinedo then jumped in and said that they were told to leave 'because they had to close.' Her friends appeared bothered that the workers asked 'four ladies' to abandon the restaurant 'because they close at 1.' 'They turned on the lights, started sweeping, and still escorted us out. It was as if we were criminals, not having paid the bill, and a bill as expensive as the one we had to pay,' she said. 'We've eaten in much nicer places, where they respect your stay until the last minute, and here they treated us like criminals.' Moments later, Mollinedo confronted one of the workers who allegedly had led them out of Bagatelle. 'Then, it was this man who escorted us,' she said while focusing her cell phone's camera on him. 'Look, this man was the one who escorted us.' The worker then snapped, 'Here we close at 1, it's not how you want.' The viral confrontation caught the attention of Mollinedo's bosses at Imagen Television, where she was fired Monday, local news outlets reported Mollinedo was also suspended from her columnist gig at El Independiente. 'Our media outlet does not share your point of view and will therefore suspend its weekly collaboration until the events are clarified,' El Independiente said in a statement. Imagen Television has yet to publicly comment on Mollinedo's termination. The veteran journalist took to Instagram on Monday evening and offered a mea culpa for her actions. Mollinedo acknowledged that her video was 'reckless and, above all, poorly presented' and that she used poor judgment in posting it online. 'I understand that the video seemed arrogant, haughty, and even overbearing,' she said. 'I assure you that's not me, and those who know me professionally and personally and have been with me for more than 14 years of experience know this.' Mollinedo and her three friends were visibly upset that after spending 25,000 pesos [about $1,330] on a dinner bill, they were told they had to leave Bagatelle's Mexico City location at 1:30 am on Saturday - 30 minutes after it had closed for business Mollinedo accepted Imagen Television's decision to dismiss her and admitted that her position at the network didn't place her above anybody else. 'I don't consider myself superior to anyone, I don't consider myself untouchable. It was never my intention to use my voice to harm or discredit anyone,' she said. 'If I offended anyone, if I created an offensive image, and unintentionally contributed to hate speech that doesn't respect my values, I sincerely apologize,' Mollinedo added. 'I'm going to take this time to reflect and, above all, to rebuild myself with truth and empathy.' Mollinedo's social media followers did not warm up to her apolody. 'The video didn't "seem" like it, the video *showed* your way of being and that of your friends,' one person commented. 'By the way, you apologize to half the world, but doesn't the worker you exposed and filmed without permission deserve an apology,' another follower said. 'Your tone of voice and body language are so neutral that it seems dishonest,' one person said. 'I don't know who's advising you, but it's awful.'

Abergavenny councillor Kyle Eldridge cleared of harassment
Kyle Edridge, who was elected as a Labour councillor, was accused of sending unwanted messages via email and social media to the girl he described as his 'little sister' and who he first met when she was 14. Following a three hour trial, at a Newport Magistrates' Court, a judge said there had been a lack of evidence and returned a not guilty verdict to the one charge of harassment without violence. Judge Sophie Toms however told 28-year-old Eldridge: 'This sort of relationship, a lot of social media calls and multiple messages, with someone younger when you were well into your 20s is inappropriate. Do you understand?' Mr Eldridge replied: 'Yes I do'. Judge Toms also said she had listened to around 12 minutes of voice notes the councillor had sent the girl in March last year, when she was 17, after she had ended their friendship and called them 'manipulative'. In one message the Abergavenny town councillor said he had been 'heartbroken' over their friendship ending and thinking about it while meeting Labour MPs and had to cry at a conference of school governors. He had told the trial he had become 'confused' over their friendship after what he described as a 'malicious joke' played by the girl, which he said due to his autism and obsessive compulsive disorder he had taken 'literally', and felt he should report as a 'safeguarding' concern. Prosecutor Robert Reid had told the court the girl, who cannot be named due to her age at the time, had said Mr Eldridge intended making a report to social services that she had been raped by a friend of hers. She said she didn't understand why he had made the allegation and said she didn't know the male, who had been accused, particularly well. Giving evidence Mr Eldridge denied making a report to social services but said he had taken advice on a 'safeguarding concern'. He said he had been concerned the girl had been taken to a pub by men, aged 29 and 32, at night. In the voice note sent to the girl, after she had unblocked him on Instagram to send a message to say she didn't want to continue their friendship but wouldn't ignore him if she saw him in public, Mr Eldridge said he was 'really sorry' to receive the message. In the recording, played in court, Mr Eldridge said: 'I'm genuinely broken-hearted and I can't express how much I'm sorry for the deep emotional trauma I put you through.' He also said: 'In church I light a candle for you and when I was at a conference for school governors from all over Wales I took five minutes and burst into tears. Tonight at a meeting with Labour Party members and MPs I just wanted to go to the toilets and have a big cry.' Judge Ms Toms said a handwritten note left for the teenager, at her workplace, and incidents when he'd approached her there, when she was with friends, and at a supermarket with her mother, weren't reflected in the charge, which referenced Instagram messages, voice notes and emails. She complained she was 'missing all of the evidence' of contact between Mr Eldridge and the girl before January last year and there was no evidence from the complainant's mother who'd also been mentioned by the prosecution and Mr Eldridge in his defence. In delivering her verdict Judge Toms stated she had considered a psychological report, which said Mr Eldridge should be considered as having a disability, and had taken his characteristics into account. But said she couldn't be sure he would know his conduct in leaving 'one extremely rambling voice message' and another message, the girl hadn't listened, to amounted to harassment. She also she believed the unwanted contact 'could have been resolved by the way of a Police Information Notice' but said she understood Gwent Police no longer issue the notices which inform someone a named individual no longer wished to be contacted by them. A prosecution request for a non-conviction restraining order, to prevent further contact, was also rejected by Judge Toms who said Mr Eldridge hadn't contacted the girl since April 2024. His defence solicitor Derek Gooden said police had warned him against contact, when he was arrested in September last year, and said: 'He has seen her but he now crosses the road.' Judge Toms said: 'That must continue unless Mr Eldridge wishes to find himself before the court.' Mr Eldridge was elected as a Labour member of Abergavenny Town Council, for the Park Ward, at the 2022 local elections but has sat as an independent since being suspended from the Labour group. He declined to comment when leaving court.
