Married At First Sight's Jeff Gobbels announces shock career move - but it's not what you may think

Daily Mail22-05-2025
It seems the Married At First Sight alumni are no longer content with fleeting fame and they're storming the podcasting world one mic at a time.
In a surprise twist no one saw coming, MAFS groom Jeff Gobbels has taken an unexpected pivot from honeymoon dramatics to basketball banter.
The popular TV star has joined forces with former NBL stars Pete Hooley and Tommy Sheridan to co-host Ausmerican Aces: NBA Show.
'It's funny, fast, and always on point,' Jeff, 40, told Daily Mail Australia on Thursday. 'We cut through the sh*t and say it how it is'.
Jeff, who was paired with Rhi Disljenkovic on the Channel Nine dating show earlier this year, is now talking MVP picks and defensive stats.
From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop.
'We discuss Coaches Mayhem, early predictions for the East and West, the MVP debate, and the Defensive Player of the Year race,' the trio shared on socials ahead of the show's third episode - which features none other than tennis star Thanasi Kokkinakis in the guest chair.
The popular podcast is already proving a hit with fans and regularly sees the trio chat to popular athletes.
While some may scratch their heads at Jeff's new hustle, he's far from the only MAFS alum to throw their hat in the podcasting ring.
Carina Mirabile, who also appeared on MAFS in 2025, has just dropped the first episode of This Is Chaos, her chaotic-good foray into the world of audio content.
The fashion-forward firecracker is joined by her real-life bestie, celebrity hairstylist Jacob Muller, and the duo are wasting no time serving unfiltered takes on fashion, beauty, empowerment - and everything in between.
'Welcome to This Is Chaos, a brand new podcast with Married At First Sight's Carina Mirabile and her bestie… where fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and raw honesty collide!' the show's official description reads.
And that's not all.
Daily Mail Australia hears whispers that Adrian Araouzou, never one to shy away from controversy, is in talks to launch his own podcast - one that promises bombshells, shock guests, and possibly some former castmates.
Of course, all these MAFS mic-grabbers are chasing the heels of Domenica Calarco and Ella Ding, who set the standard with their hit show Sit With Us.
Launched in the wake of their star-making turns on MAFS in 2022, the pair's podcast soared up the charts thanks to their signature blend of sass, sisterhood and spilt tea.
Though the duo eventually parted ways personally and professionally - with Ella leaving the show - it marked a pivotal shift, proving that MAFS alumni can build genuine media careers off-screen.
More recently, Tahnee Cook has joined fan favourite Selina Chhaur in hosting Nova's successful Back to Reality podcast.
One thing's for sure - the MAFS class of seasons past aren't fading into obscurity.
They're popping up in your feeds, in your earbuds, and now, apparently, on the NBA beat.

Soap ‘mega-hunk' looks unrecognisable as he reunites with co-star and returns to show 20 years after quitting

A NEIGHBOURS "mega-hunk" looks unrecognisable as he reunites with one of his 90s' co-stars. This actor, now 55, has returned to Ramsay Street 20 years after quitting the Aussie soap. 5 5 5 5 Soap star Richard Grieve is back in Erinsborough, as Neighbours gets ready to bid farewell for a second time. Die-hard fans of the soap will remember him for playing Sam Kratz, who during his time on the soap became a pin-up on teenagers' bedroom walls. Richard's character rode into Ramsay Street in 1994 on a motorcycle clad in a leather jacket. He was an instant hit, and soon secured his Neighbours star heartthrob status. Richard previously revealed how he was unsure about attending the audition for Sam, after he learned that producers were looking for "a mega-hunk". However, he borrowed a leather jacket to make himself look more like the character, and he was told that he had the role a week after the audition. After leaving Neighbours in 1996, he joined rival soap Home and Away, playing Dr Lachlan Fraser. H. Staying with soaps, he then headed to blighty and starred in Emmerdale for two years until 2009. Sam is joined in his Neighbours return by Kimberley Davies, who appeared as Annalise Hartman from 1993 to 1996. The 52-year-old later moved to the United States, appearing in episodes of Friends and Ally McBeal. 90s soap bombshell hasn't aged a day as she returns to show twenty years after quitting The pair were pictured reuniting in a promo picture for their forthcoming return. Meanwhile, it comes after it was recently revealed how the final episode of Neighbours could reportedly 'fall flat"' - due to a lack of legends returning. So far, Richard and Kimberley are the only ones. Earlier this year, the beloved Aussie soap was axed for a second time, having been saved by Amazon after 37 years on Channel 5. The original finale saw Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan return to Ramsay Street, alongside other show alums. However, bosses' attempts to bring back A-listers this time around have reportedly not panned out. According to Daily Mail Australia, stars such as Margot Robbie, Natalie Imbruglia, Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe are all said to have snubbed the final episode. An insider told the publication: "The cast of the current season will need to rely on the storylines that involve their characters, because breaking out the cheque book won't cover it." Regarding the 2022 finale, the source added: "The mega stars waived their usual million dollar fees and felt like they were waving goodbye to the show that launched them. It was very classy. "The fact that Alan Fletcher, Jackie Woodburn and Ryan Maloney were tipped off as the show was saved during Neighbours' 'farewell tour' was pretty awkward in retrospect." The last episode of Neighbours will air on December 11. Neighbours stars who made it big The long-running Aussie soap has launched the careers of some of Hollywood's biggest stars. Here are some of the Neighbours alums who went on to make it big after starring on the soap... Kylie Minogue Before she hit the big time with her music career, Kylie shot to fame playing Charlene Mitchell on Neighbours. Shortly after her arrival, Kylie began an on and off-screen romance with co-star Jason Donovan, who played Scott Robinson, which gained the couple an army of adoring fans. Jason Donovan After his stint as Scott, singer and actor Jason became an international popstar and had his pick acting of roles. He moved to the U.K., married, had children and has since starred in over a dozen West End show, most notably Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat. Alan Dale New Zealand born actor Alan was one of Neighbours 12 original cast members having made his debut as Jim Robinson on the soap's first episode on 18 March 1985. As the head of the Robinson clan, widower Jim lived at Number 26 Ramsay Street with his children Paul, Julie, Scott and Lucy, and was a real anchor in the community. He stayed with the show for eight years, before his character was killed off in dramatic scenes aired in 1993 but which still reverberate through the soap to this day. Margot Robbie Way before she was Barbie or Harley Quinn, Margot was best known as Ramsay Street resident Donna Freedman. Her notable storylines included her marriage to Ringo Brown and becoming a young widow following his tragic death. After three years she bid farewell to the soap and Australia with a plan to make a name for herself in Hollywood which she did when she bagged the role of Naomi Lapaglia opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street. Jesse Spencer Jesse rocked up on Ramsay street in 1994 with the rest of the Kennedy clan. He stayed for five years, literally growing up in front of the camera, but in 2000 felt it was time to spread his wings and head for Hollywood. It was certainly a smart move as he went on to bag leading roles in popular shows like House and Chicago Fire. Russell Crowe New Zealand-native Russell had a brief arc on Neighbours, appearing in four episodes of the soap 1987 as Kenny Larkin, the former cellmate of Street resident Henry Ramsay. The role obviously got him noticed though because he quickly went on to become a fully-fledged Hollywood A-lister, winning the Best Actor Oscar for his standout performance as Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius in Gladiator.

Reality TV star Matt Wright's 'abusive' tirade revealed as he faces three counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice

Reality TV star Matt Wright was 'hostile and abusive' to his helicopter pilots when they stopped crocodile-egg collecting because of a bad storm and went to the pub, a jury has heard. Wright has pleaded not guilty to three counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice after a February 28 chopper crash that killed Outback Wrangler co-star Chris 'Willow' Wilson. Pilot Sebastian Robinson was left a paraplegic after the crash and has been giving evidence in the Supreme Court in Darwin by video link from his wheelchair. Prosecutors allege Wright was worried crash investigators would discover flight-time meters were disconnected regularly to extend flying hours beyond official thresholds and paperwork was falsified. Crown prosecutor Jason Gullaci SC on Friday asked Mr Robinson about a storm on January 26, 2022 that prompted him and fellow pilot Michael Burbidge to call off crocodile-egg collecting at the Daly River mouth. 'It was huge ... across the whole horizon, going fast,' the 32-year-old said. To sling egg collectors below a helicopter onto croc nests in such a storm was 'very dangerous' for pilots and egg collectors, he said. The crews flew their choppers out and went to the Noonamah Tavern for a beer but when Wright heard his reaction was 'very hostile and abusive', Mr Robinson said. He said Wright phoned him saying; 'What the f*** are youse doing back? Egg collecting is not meant to be easy, you wait the weather out ... and get on with the job.' 'I told him to get f***ed, get vaccinated and fly his own helicopter,' Mr Robinson told the court, referring to Wright being an anti-vaxxer who was unable to fly into Arnhem Land because of COVID-19 restrictions. Wright's tirade contributed to Mr Robinson's desire to leave Wright's Helibrook company and run his own helicopter operation, he said. In phone messages the next day Wright apologised to his pilots and egg collectors for 'blowing up' at them but he had been under pressure with other missions, the court heard. Mr Robinson previously admitted cocaine use and supply but has told the court he never flew helicopters while high. In a pre-crash text message exchange played to the court on Thursday, Mr Robinson said he was 'crook as a dog', with a friend texting back, 'snorting too much coke out of Matty's arse', in a reference to Wright. In a line of questioning stemming from that on Friday, Mr Gullaci asked Mr Robinson: 'Have you ever sniffed cocaine off Mr Wright's arse crack?' 'Absolutely not,' Mr Robinson replied. 'Have you ever given anyone a blow job to get cocaine,' Mr Gullaci then asked, again getting a negative response. 'That's woken the jury up,' Acting Justice Allan Blow said, as Wright chuckled in the dock. Senior defence counsel David Edwardson KC on Friday accused Mr Robinson of concocting a story Wright had asked him to manipulate helicopter flying hours. Mr Robinson has said Wright asked him at his hospital bedside in Brisbane 11 days after the crash to transfer flying hours from the crashed chopper IDW onto Mr Robinson's ZXZ machine, which he declined to do. Mr Edwardson put it to Mr Robinson the conversation about manipulating flying hours never happened. But Mr Robinson said he remembered Wright saying something along the lines, 'we might have to put some hours across onto ZXZ'. Mr Robinson has also told the court he remembered at the hospital his phone was in Wright's hand and he was deleting items from it, which he believed to be helicopter flight times. But Mr Edwardson put it to Mr Robinson that was an 'absolute falsehood' because Wright never touched his phone and did not delete any messages. Mr Robinson said he disagreed. The charges against Wright do not relate to the cause of the accident and the prosecution does not allege he is responsible for either the crash, Mr Wilson's death or Mr Robinson's injuries. The trial continues.

Kylie Minogue responds to claims Taylor Swift copied her look

Taylor Swift has unveiled imagery for her forthcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, featuring a burlesque-style diamante leotard and 1920s flapper-style costumes. Some fans accused Swift of copying Kylie Minogue 's Showgirl era, an aesthetic the Australian pop singer adopted for her greatest hits tour in 2006. Minogue responded on Instagram by sharing throwback photos from her tour, saying the 'Showgirl life is ... so much more than feathers and dazzle', and expressing respect for other 'hard working Showgirls'. Fans said Minogue's post showed she admires Swift and was not intended as criticism or 'shade'. Swift's new album was inspired by her experiences during her record-breaking Eras Tour and is her first release since she regained the full rights to her initial six records.
