Close shave for driver as car bursts into flames in Gua Musang
Gua Musang OCPD Supt Sik Choon Foo in a statement here on Wednesday (June 18) said in the 9.15pm incident, the engine of the Honda Accord driven by the 25-year-old man began to spark and then ignited.
He said police were alerted to the road accident involving a car travelling from Kampung Limau Kasturi towards Gua Musang.
"Upon arriving at the scene, the driver had lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid and crash into a concrete block at the roadside. Due to the impact, the driver sustained minor chest injuries and was taken to Gua Musang Hospital for initial treatment,' he said.- Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- The role of media practitioners, particularly journalists, is becoming increasingly important in curbing the spread of fake news, which is becoming more prevalent, especially through social media, said Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching. She said trained journalists know their roles and responsibilities as Malaysian citizens to verify the authenticity of any news, thus ensuring the public can differentiate between fake and real news. She added that, as of Aug 1, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had requested 16,110 fake news content be taken down, which is an alarming increase compared to the 5,367 cases in 2023 and 17,245 cases in 2024. "Scammers are now increasingly clever in using artificial intelligence (AI) to generate fake videos and voices to deceive victims,' she said at the launch of the 2025 Malaysian Tamil Media Organisation Annual General Meeting here. In addition, she said the public is easily duped when exposed to unverified information that is repeatedly shared across various social media platforms until it is eventually accepted as true. She cited the case of Zara Qairina Mahathir, which went viral after the Form One student died due to alleged bullying in school. "Social media was flooded with various accusations and fake information, including claims that she was put into a washing machine for two hours. Although police confirmed a few days ago that it was fake news, I believe many still think it actually happened. "So, this trend is unhealthy and dangerous if it is not curbed. It can cause public anxiety, especially since it is related to the safety of school students,' she said. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Corruption in the police force only involves a few bad apples but their actions have tarnished the reputation of all law enforcers, says deputy inspector-general of police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. He said he regretted such a perception due to the handful of police officers and personnel when the majority have been performing their duties with integrity and dedication, Bernama reported. Ayob Khan added that corruption-related offences must be dealt with firmly, regardless of the rank of the individuals involved. He said he had never compromised with any officers or personnel involved in such offences during his tenure as Johor police chief, director of the Bukit Aman narcotics criminal investigation department (NCID), and director of the Bukit Aman criminal investigation department (CID). 'In Johor, when I served as police chief, some officers and personnel were subjected to action under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma). 'At the NCID, officers with the ranks of superintendent, ASP, and inspector were also placed under Special Preventive Measures,' he was quoted as saying after the launch of the book 'Antologi Puisi Makan Suap' at the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) in Kuala Lumpur last night. He also stressed that attempts to cover up corruption cases involving police officers to protect the reputation of the force would only allow such activities to fester and become harder to prevent. 'I will not compromise. If I detect such cases, the first step is to refer major cases to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
