Missing man found dead after vehicle swept away in Gua Musang

GUA MUSANG: A man who was reported missing after the vehicle he was driving was swept away by strong river currents in Kuala Betis on Tuesday has been found dead. Gua Musang district police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said the body of the 51-year-old victim was found about six kilometres from the spot where his vehicle was last seen. "The Search and Rescue team, comprising firemen and police officers, discovered the body at about 10.20am, stuck between fallen tree branches approximately six kilometres downstream," he said. He added that the victim had been travelling with two foreign men — a Bangladeshi and a Pakistani — on a work trip to Pos Bihai when the incident occurred at around 7.30pm on May 20. "The three, who were travelling in a Toyota Prado, attempted to cross Sungai Suma when sudden rising waters flooded the vehicle. "The two passengers managed to break a window and swim to safety, but the driver was unable to escape, and the vehicle was swept away by the current," he said. The body has been sent to Gua Musang Hospital for a post-mortem examination. "The case has been classified as sudden death," he added.

Landslide cuts off Gua Musang-Kuala Krai road, causes two-kilometre traffic jam

GUA MUSANG, May 21 — A landslide at KM27 of Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai, near Gua Sejuk, has cut off both directions of the road, causing a two-kilometre traffic jam last night. Gua Musang police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo said the incident occurred around 7.30 pm and brought traffic to a complete standstill. He said the landslide was likely triggered by heavy rain earlier in the day, though no casualties or damage to vehicles were reported. 'The Public Works Department (JKR) has alerted the Central Spine Road (LTU) project team for further action,' he told Bernama. He added that traffic police and a mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) unit have been deployed to ensure public safety at the scene. 'The road will reopen once debris is cleared. Road users are advised to remain patient and comply with instructions from the authorities, as no alternative routes are currently available,' he said. — Bernama
