
Sheikh Fahad: Hosting OCA General Assembly reflects Kuwait's prominent role in Asian sports
KUWAIT, May 8, (KUNA): Chairman of the Kuwait Olympic Committee, Sheikh Fahad Nasser Al-Sabah, affirmed that Kuwait's hosting of the 45th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), set to kick off next Sunday under the slogan 'One Asia,' reflects the country's prominent position on the Asian Olympic sports map.
In a statement issued Thursday, Sheikh Fahad said the Kuwait Olympic Committee, in cooperation with the OCA, has completed all necessary preparations to welcome this major continental event, which unites the Asian Olympic sports family.
The official General Assembly meeting will take place next Monday at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, with the participation of presidents and officials representing the National Olympic Committees of 45 Asian nations. The event will also be graced by the presence of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, Dr. Thomas Bach.
Sheikh Fahad highlighted that approximately 400 distinguished sports figures from across Asia and around the globe have been invited to attend this significant gathering, which aims to further the development of the Olympic movement across the continent.
In a related event, Sheikh Fahad announced that the Kuwait Olympic Committee will also host the 37th meeting of the Council of Presidents of the Gulf Olympic Committees this Sunday at the Four Seasons Hotel. He emphasised the importance of this meeting in strengthening regional cooperation and advancing the shared goals of Gulf sports development.

Al-Otaibi said in a statement that the medals came after the brilliance of shooters in the (trap) competitions , where shooters Abdulrahman Al-Faihan, Talal Al-Rashidi and Nasser Al-Muqlid won the gold medal in the men's team competition. Al-Otaibi pointed out that the Kuwait shooters Shahd Al-Hawal, Sarah Al-Hawal and Reem Al-Zamanan won the silver medal in the women's team competition, while Abdulrahman Al-Faihan won the bronze medal for the singles competition, as Nasser Al-Muqlid and Sarah Al-Hawal won the bronze medal in the mixed doubles competition. Pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat for Hajj's most significant ritual
MAKKAH: Pilgrims performing Hajj have begun gathering at Mount Arafat, marking the most significant ritual of the annual Islamic movement to the Arafat plain started early Thursday, as pilgrims arrived in a deeply spiritual atmosphere marked by humility, prayer, and supplication, seeking forgiveness, mercy, and salvation. Saudi authorities provided direct and comprehensive security oversight as pilgrims made their way to Arafat, with personnel from various security sectors deployed along roads and pedestrian paths to ensure orderly movement in line with pre-established crowd management plans. All relevant Saudi government agencies involved in serving the pilgrims operated at full capacity, providing medical, emergency, food, and logistical services across Arafat. The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported smooth and organized movement of pilgrims from Mina to Arafat. Pilgrims are expected to perform the combined and shortened Dhuhr and Asr prayers at Al-Namirah Mosque in Arafat, in accordance with the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad.
