
Sheikh Fahad: Hosting OCA General Assembly reflects Kuwait's prominent role in Asian sports
In a statement issued Thursday, Sheikh Fahad said the Kuwait Olympic Committee, in cooperation with the OCA, has completed all necessary preparations to welcome this major continental event, which unites the Asian Olympic sports family.
The official General Assembly meeting will take place next Monday at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, with the participation of presidents and officials representing the National Olympic Committees of 45 Asian nations. The event will also be graced by the presence of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, Dr. Thomas Bach.
Sheikh Fahad highlighted that approximately 400 distinguished sports figures from across Asia and around the globe have been invited to attend this significant gathering, which aims to further the development of the Olympic movement across the continent.
In a related event, Sheikh Fahad announced that the Kuwait Olympic Committee will also host the 37th meeting of the Council of Presidents of the Gulf Olympic Committees this Sunday at the Four Seasons Hotel. He emphasised the importance of this meeting in strengthening regional cooperation and advancing the shared goals of Gulf sports development.

Kuwait volleyball team AMMAN: Kuwaiti team outrivaled its Palestinian counterpart 3-0 on Saturday in the opening match of the 17th Arab Under-18 Volleyball Championship currently being held in Jordan. The Kuwaiti team dominated the match from the start and managed to snatch its three points. It won the match's three sets 25-20, 25-14 and 25-20. The Kuwaiti team is scheduled to face the Bahraini team on Sunday, in the second match of the Pool B preliminary round. The championship brings together 10 national teams from across the Arab world, with hosts Jordan welcoming Egypt, Iraq, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Libya, Lebanon, Palestine and the United Arab Emirates. The teams have been drawn into two Pools A and B. Pool A features Jordan, Egypt, Libya, Lebanon and the UAE, while Pool B consists of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait and Palestine. The preliminary round, which will follow a round-robin format within each pool, started on August 16. The top four teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, with the semifinals set for August 23, followed by classification matches on August 24. The first half ended in favor of the Kuwaiti team 18-13, and the 'Blues' dominated the game in the second half to end the match in their favor. Kuwaiti player Hassan Boland won the best player award for the second time after winning the same award in the match between Kuwait and Morocco on Tuesday, which ended with the national team winning 34-25. The President's Cup competition is held within the 2025 World Handball Championship, and teams that did not qualify for the main round participate in it, where they play to determine the 17th to 32nd places and ensure a fair final ranking. The team lost its three matches in the group stage against Sweden.
