Tottenham have said they are 'disgusted' after forward Mathys Tel received racial abuse on social media after Wednesday night's Uefa Super Cup defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. Tel missed a spot-kick in a penalty shoot-out, which Tottenham lost 4-3 after they had surrendered a late 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 after 90 minutes. The France Under-21s international, whose loan deal from Bayern Munich was made permanent in a £30m deal in June, was targeted with abuse after firing his effort wide. Tottenham said in a statement: 'We are disgusted at the racial abuse that Mathys Tel has received on social media following last night's UEFA Super Cup defeat. 'Mathys showed bravery and courage to step forward and take a penalty, yet those who abuse him are nothing but cowards – hiding behind anonymous usernames and profiles to spout their abhorrent views. 'We will work with the authorities and social media platforms to take the strongest possible action against any individual we are able to identify. We stand with you, Mathys.' Tottenham led 2-0 until the 85th minute at the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine, Italy, through goals from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero before late efforts from Lee Kang-in and Goncalo Ramos hauled PSG level.

Mike Ashley demands investigation into Boohoo founder's debt collecting
Mike Ashley has demanded an independent investigation into attempts by Boohoo's founder to collect a £100,000 personal debt by taking a cut of payments from one of its suppliers. In a letter to Tim Morris, Boohoo's independent chairman, lawyers for Mr Ashley's Frasers Group said its founder and executive vice chairman Mahmud Kamani must be suspended 'immediately' pending the outcome of an investigation. Lawyers at White and Case said they had sent the letter, which was also published on the London Stock Exchange, directly to Mr Morris 'due to the seriousness of the issues raised with regards to the conduct' of Mr Kamani. The demand comes after The Telegraph last week revealed Mr Kamani's debt collection demands with one supplier, publishing angry WhatsApp messages sent by the retail tycoon. Frasers Group, which owns Sports Direct and House of Fraser, is Boohoo's biggest shareholder in Boohoo with a 30pc stake. Lawyers for Frasers said they were seeking 'urgent reassurance' that the revelations would be 'properly and independently investigated'. The letter said: 'Frasers also considers that it is your responsibility, as well as that of the entire board of directors of Boohoo, to protect Boohoo and its shareholders from Mr Kamani and any of his associates who may be complicit in these matters. 'These allegations are very serious and damaging to the reputation of boohoo. If proven, it appears that Mr Kamani may have breached his duties as a director of Boohoo and could also have committed various criminal offences.' In the messages, Mr Kamani, who retains a 12.5pc stake in Boohoo, claimed he was owed £100,000 by Anjum Majid, the father of the owner of PDQ Textiles. He instructed a middleman in its supply chain to deduct 20p per garment from payments to PDQ Textiles, a Manchester company with factories in Pakistan, in order to collect the personal debt. In the WhatsApp conversation from 2023, Mr Kamani said: 'I want my £100k... please deduct 20p per garment from all his son's orders... with immediate effect all deliveries from today.'

Police conclude investigation into death of Gogglebox's George Gilbey
Police have concluded their investigation into the death of Gogglebox's George Gilbey, with two men who were arrested facing no further police action. The 40-year-old had been 'working on a roof when he fell through a plastic skylight, landing on the ground below' in Shoeburyness in Essex last year, a previous inquest hearing was told. Mr Gilbey, of Clacton-on-Sea, suffered traumatic injuries to his head and torso, and died on March 27 last year. Essex Police said on Wednesday that two men, who were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, will face no further action from the force. In a statement the force said: 'Essex Police have confirmed their investigation into the death of George Gilbey last year has concluded. 'Two men who were arrested and released under investigation in connection with the incident in Shoebury on March 27, 2024 will face no further action from Essex Police. 'The thoughts of everyone at Essex Police remain with George's family and friends. 'The criminal investigation remains open and will be led by the Health and Safety Executive.' HSE inspector Natalie Prince said: 'We have been a part of this inquiry from the outset and we will continue to thoroughly investigate George's tragic death as the lead agency. 'This will aim to establish if there have been any breaches of health and safety law. 'We are in regular contact with George's family and our thoughts remain with them at this time.' Mr Gilbey was best known for appearing on the Channel 4 series Gogglebox – where participants watch and comment on TV shows from the previous week. The reality star also appeared on the 14th series of Celebrity Big Brother in 2014, reaching the final.
