Cowboys Rookie Tyler Booker: Not Winning at Alabama Fuels My 'Burn and Passion'
"I love to win, and I hate to lose. I lost too much this past year. I lost a lot more than I should have in college, me being at Alabama," Booker said in an interview with the Dallas Morning News. "I left without a national championship and that's something that is going to burn at me for the rest of my life. So I'm going to bring that burn and passion and desire with me to the NFL and transfer that over to wanting to win Super Bowls."
Booker, a four-star recruit, played three seasons at Alabama (2022-24), with whom he shined. In 2022, Booker played at both guard spots before becoming Alabama's full-time left guard and earning first team All-SEC honors from the Associated Press in 2023. Last season (2024), Booker started 12 games at left guard, one at left tackle and was an All-American.
As for Booker's Crimson Tide teams as a whole, Alabama went a combined 32-8 over the past three seasons, making the College Football Playoff in the 2023 season but losing a heart-breaker to eventual-national champion Michigan in the semifinal round. Last season, Alabama went 9-4 overall and 5-3 in SEC play, but Booker played in the team's ReliaQuest Bowl loss to Michigan.
Booker, who stands at 6-foot-4 and 321 pounds, joins a Cowboys team that missed the playoffs last season at 7-10. Meanwhile, quarterback Dak Prescott missed the final nine games due to a hamstring injury, and Dallas fired head coach Mike McCarthy after five seasons, then promoted offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to head coach.
Booker's selection marks the third time in the past four years that the Cowboys have drafted an offensive lineman in the first round; Dallas selected Oklahoma's Tyler Guyton with the No. 29 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and Tulsa's Tyler Smith with the No. 24 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. With Guyton and Smith on the left side, Booker is projected to start at right guard for the Cowboys.
"I'm very excited about training camp and putting the pads on," Booker said. "I'm really excited for the opportunity to get better, because I know there will be things I have to work on and things I have to get better at and things I have to learn. I'm very excited to go through the whole process and learn."
Booker and the Cowboys open the 2025 preseason on the road against the Los Angeles Rams on Aug. 9 and open the regular season on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 4.

Chiefs Expected To Return To 'Free-Wheeling' Offense In 2025
Chiefs Expected To Return To 'Free-Wheeling' Offense In 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Kansas City Chiefs' offense in 2025, for most, has a couple of question marks around it, one being the offensive line, but also, can Patrick Mahomes' weapons stay healthy? The drop-off in production last season could be attributed to a host of things, but the main reason was that Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown both missed significant chunks of time due to injury and never were on the field together. That should change. The run game with Isiah Pacheco has also been in the spotlight with the running back fighting back from injury last season, but when he returned, he failed to produce as we know he can. When looking at the Chiefs' "triplets" as CBS Sports' Jared Dubin calls them, of Mahomes, Rice, and Pacheco, when ranking all 32 teams' top three weapons, Dubin has Kansas City at No. 5. "This is the lowest the Chiefs have ranked since Mahomes' first season as the starter," Dubin writes. "They've were ninth prior to his debut, and have since checked in second, first, first, second, fourth, second and first before falling to fifth this season. If you ask me, it's too low. "People are ascribing a drop-off to the team that, in my opinion, was caused by offensive line play and injuries (to both Pacheco and the entire wide receiver corps). I think we see Kansas City get back to a more free-wheeling, wide-open offense this season and jump back near the top of the rankings a year from now." There's every reason to suggest that we will see a significant bounce-back from Andy Reid's offense this upcoming season. Yes, they still won 15 games last year, but we don't expect that to happen again. But what we do expect is for the offense to score more than 22.6 points per game (ranked 15th), and for Mahomes to average more than 245 passing yards per game. If his weapons are healthy, both should see a serious uptick in improvement. Many are doubting the Chiefs in 2025, with some thinking they are about to fall off the proverbial cliff, but with a top-five offensive trio in their ranks, we bet they might just surprise a few people this season. Everything Alabama offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor said at 2025 SEC media days
The lone junior among the Alabama Crimson Tide's attendees, offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor was one of the three players from the program who spoke to the media Wednesday morning at 2025 SEC football media days. Entering his third season as a starter at left tackle this fall, Proctor is one of the more important players yet again on Alabama's offensive front, and will be key with the Crimson Tide having a new starting quarterback in 2025. Here is a look at everything Proctor said during his 2025 SEC media days availability, ranging from the offensive line to new players and more. Kadyn Proctor on Alabama's quarterback battle, freshman Keelon Russell "Starting off with Ty, he's been there for four years now. He knows what to do. He's doing his to his best abilities to succeed. And just having that experience, I know he hasn't been a starting quarterback, but he knows what he's doing." "Austin Mack has been at that same level, too. Knows what he's doing. Tall guy, lengthy. Something I want to point out is they all can run, they can scoot. The arm talent is crazy from all three of them." "And I'm just proud of Keelon for coming in as a freshmen. It's hard, especially being at SEC at quarterback, but they're all three doing their job. I'm proud of all of them." Kadyn Proctor on message to Alabama's freshman offensive line class "So my first message to them is that I've been through some hard things and I never want them to go through what I had to go through my freshmen year after giving up however many sacks I did." "I just want to show them I love and care for them. If we want to come talk to me, watch film, they can call me up. I just want to be that role model for them. So, yeah." Kadyn Proctor on Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams "Behind the scenes he is a funny guy. If ya'll ever get to talk to him, he's a funny, goofy guy. You've seen of TikTok dances. He's not afraid of who he is, and I love that for him. He's had great success his first, and I know year two will be even better for him." Kadyn Proctor on new teammate Kam Dewberry "What he brings to the group is intensity. He's had those years where he started. He's been playing since early freshman year, so I has been through those tough environments. He knows what's going on." "He's older than me so he has a little bit more experience than me, so some things that I don't know he can teach me and I love that we have those elder guys. Always have a mix of young guys that he can teach too and I can teach, and we feed off each other for sure from the past experiences we've had." Kadyn Proctor on Alabama's offensive line "I would say every single offensive lineman just going from whatever top 6 to all 20 of them, even the walk-ons, we're working our tail off in the weight room, meeting room. Like there is -- especially just want to highlight the freshmen that came in. All of them came in ready to go, ready to work." "I would say even better than me when I came in as a freshmen. They just have that level of intensity to them and I know they want to work. But the top six, whoever those five are that are come August 30th I'm going to be proud of each one of them." "I know that the coaches are going to make the best decision moving forward." Kadyn Proctor on Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos' comments "We really don't really focus on that too much. I mean, it's all going to come down to the preparation. We're going to see on August 30th who the winner is." "That's not the focus right now. We haven't made it to fall camp yet. Still have a couple weeks of summer work outside left." "So that's been the intent and focus now from our group. We're not really giving into whatever anybody else is saying. It's all internal. Keeping it in house." Kadyn Proctor on 2024 win vs. Georgia "I feel like everybody did their job to the best of their ability and ultimately came out with a dub. And not just the Georgia game. We have had the games -- the SEC is tough. That's how those games go. Keeping a team down like that, I know we got up 28-0, but it's hard keep a team down like that." "It's a great team and it's always exciting when we play them." Kadyn Proctor on differences in Kalen DeBoer entering year two "I would just say that he's more comfortable. It's hard coming into SEC as a first year head coach. I mean, that's stressful for sure." "I don't want anybody to hate on my coach or anything like that so I'm doing everything to my best ability to provide for him to have the best success." "So I would say the comfortability. We're relationship base and that's just what it's been throughout this past year." Kadyn Proctor on 'welcome to the SEC' moment "I would say just freshmen year. We obviously seen the stats that I gave up and how many sacks. That kind of speaks for itself right there, how hard it was. But one specific play was Middle Tennessee first ever game. I'm taking outside zone track to the right, and before I had got my right foot in the ground, I had a linebacker run through my chest." "He wasn't worrying about the play. He was just trying to run through me. Yep, that's welcome to college football right there. From that day on, I think about it -- just got to laugh it off honestly." Kadyn Proctor on Geno VanDeMark, Qua Russaw "For Geno, he's had a lot of experience. He's in his last year of eligibility. He's played a long time of football. He knows what he's doing. He's a smart guy. Ever since going to Alabama, he's gotten stronger, faster." "He's just had that focus and intent knowing he's an older guy that knows this is his last year. He's got a sense of urgency honestly to be the best that he can." "And Qua, I remember a play yesterday where he shot off the ball on me outside of the tight end. It's just hard getting to that guy. That's just how he is. He's a fast, strong, powerful guy. You never know what he's going to do." "Great hands, great feet. Powerful guy. He's a strong dude. That's what I want to highlight about him. He's about business also. So they're both about business." Kadyn Proctor on best college athlete ever seen "I would say Caitlin Clark for sure. There is talks about who is the best athlete to come out of Iowa. I don't want anybody to say my name. I want them to say Caitlin Clark. The things I've seen her do is crazy." "That's probably -- I want to say that's the best basketball player I've seen honestly." Kadyn Proctor on freshman year struggles "I feel like I got flustered a lot. It's hard thinking. I play slower when you think. You get to the ball and you're not really sure about what you're doing. That was the biggest part. Not the weight or anything like that, because I played last season ten pounds heavier than my freshmen season and I had better stats than my freshmen year." "So I feel like it's just thinking. It's hard mentally. It's a mental challenge, especially playing in tough environments." Injury report update: Indiana Fever rule Caitlin Clark out vs Liberty
With tipoff approaching, the Indiana Fever have officially ruled star point guard Caitlin Clark out of Wednesday night's game against the New York Liberty from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn with a right groin injury. Clark was initially listed as questionable in the Fever's first injury report update on Wednesday. Including the WNBA Commissioner's Cup championship game, Clark is now set to miss her 11th contest this season. The 6-foot Fever guard missed five games from May 28-June 10 with a left quadriceps injury. Clark missed five more games with a left groin injury from June 26-July 5. Prior to her absences this season, Clark had played in 185 straight games across her college career at Iowa and the start of her WNBA career with the Fever. Clark missing Wednesday night's contest against the Liberty would seemingly put her status for WNBA All-Star Weekend in jeopardy. Clark is scheduled to take part in the WNBA 3-Point Contest on Friday at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis as part of All-Star Weekend. Clark is also one of the team captains for the WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. CT on ABC. Clark finished Tuesday night's win with 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and one steal on a 4-of-14 shooting effort, including 1-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Fever head coach Stephanie White commented on Clark's right groin injury after Indiana's 85-77 win over the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday evening. 'We just take it one step at a time,' White said. 'She's being evaluated. We'll see where we are with that. Certainly, we'll probably have another evaluation and conversation (Wednesday) and see where we are. This group has played without her. We have a tough opponent in New York. We have to get locked in and ready to compete.'
