On a day when bowlers dominated and the match hung in tense balance,
Pat Cummins
lit up the second Test between Australia and West Indies with one of the most breathtaking caught-and-bowled dismissals in recent memory.
The Australian captain's stunning effort to remove Keacy Carty was described by commentators as "an athletic effort of the highest class" and will surely be replayed for years to come.

It happened in a flash. Cummins bowled a good length delivery that jagged back into Carty, who prodded forward with bat away from pad. The ball took a thick inside edge and ballooned in the air, seemingly destined to land safely in the empty space near square mid-wicket.
But Cummins wasn't having it.
Poll
Do you believe Cummins' catch will be remembered as one of the best in cricket history?
Yes, absolutely!
Maybe, it depends on future performances.
No, there have been better catches.
Sprinting across to his right, the 32-year-old pacer flung himself forward, stretching out his right hand to pluck the ball just inches above the turf. It was a moment of pure athleticism and instinct. Third umpire Nitin Menon took a brief look before confirming the dismissal: Keacy Carty c and b Cummins 6 (12).
WATCH:
"It's a brilliant catch. Absolutely terrific from the Australian captain," exclaimed one commentator.
"It is an athletic effort of the highest class."
The catch capped a solid bowling effort that restricted West Indies to 253 in their first innings, with Nathan Lyon being the pick of the bowlers with 3/75. Brandon King led the West Indies resistance with a stroke-filled 75 off 108 balls.

Australia ended the day on 12 for two, having lost both openers - Sam Konstas and Usman Khawaja - early to Jayden Seales. With a narrow lead of 45 and eight wickets in hand, Cummins' magic moment might prove pivotal in a Test that remains delicately poised heading into Day 3.

Yankees pitcher Clarke Schmidt faces major setback with expected Tommy John surgery

Yankees pitcher Clarke Schmidt faces major setback with expected Tommy John surgery (Image via Getty) Once again, a major injury has upset the pitching rotation of the New York Yankees. Right-handed pitcher Clarke Schmidt was discovered to have a torn UCL in his elbow on July 5, 2025 and will likely need Tommy John surgery. This abrupt growth happens at a time when the Yankees already face serious health problems throughout their pitching staff. Schmidt will probably miss the whole 2025 campaign as well as much of 2026. Clarke Schmidt expected to miss extended time after second Tommy John surgery On Friday, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone revealed to reporters that Clarke Schmidt would most likely have Tommy John surgery after a UCL tear. On July 4, the 29-year-old righty had just gone on the 15-day injured list for what was initially said to be forearm tightness. The problem turned out to be more serious. The New York Post's Joel Sherman said that Boone spoke during a media briefing. Before the injury announcement, Clarke Schmidt had quietly pieced together a solid season. Despite starting his 2025 campaign late due to rotator cuff tendonitis, Schmidt posted a 3.32 ERA over 78.2 innings. He carried a streak of 28 1/3 scoreless innings in June, which added stability to a Yankees rotation already missing key arms. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Нов таблет с Android Pro 14 Murreice Купете сега Undo But trouble returned when he gave up seven earned runs in his last two starts against the Oakland Athletics and Toronto Blue Jays. He was pulled from the July 3 game against Toronto after just three innings. Clarke Schmidt's injury adds pressure to Yankees rotation plans This is the second time Clarke Schmidt will have Tommy John surgery, the first being in 2017 when he was a college pitcher at South Carolina. He also missed parts of the 2021 and 2024 seasons due to arm and lat injuries. Given the typical recovery time of 13–15 months, Schmidt may not return until the end of 2026 or even Opening Day 2027. Also Read: Paul Skenes Faces Brutal Distraction As Livvy Dunne Breakup Buzz Links Her To Jacob Misiorowski With Schmidt joining Gerrit Cole and Jake Cousins as Yankees pitchers sidelined by Tommy John surgery this year, the rotation depth is being tested. Aaron Boone now looks toward Luis Gil and Ryan Yarbrough, both expected back after the All-Star break. Max Fried, Carlos Rodón, Marcus Stroman, and Will Warren round out the current rotation. The Yankees may also explore trade options before the deadline to patch their rotation woes. Schmidt remains arbitration-controlled through 2027, but the team could consider a short-term contract to support his rehab. Shubman Gill hits record-breaking ton before England collapse in second Test

India captain Shubman Gill became the first batsman in Test history to make scores of 250 and 150 in the same match before Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep again struck with the new ball as the tourists pressed for a series-levelling win at Edgbaston on Saturday. Gill followed his first-innings 267 in the second Test with another superb knock of 161 off just 162 balls. He eventually declared India's second innings on 427-6 after tea on the fourth day. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 지금, 유니세프 팀 팔찌 유니세프 지금 기부하기 Undo That left England needing a mammoth 608 runs to go 2-0 up in this five-match series. No side in 148 years of Test cricket have made more to win in the fourth innings than the West Indies' 418 against Australia at St John's in 2003. Live Events England's corresponding record is the 378 they made against India at Edgbaston three years ago. But at Saturday's close in Birmingham they were 72-3, needing a further 536 runs on the final day to achieve a win that would be remarkable even in their current 'Bazball' era of aggressive batting. But Harry Brook, who helped keep England afloat in the first innings with 158 in a total of 407, was still there on 15 not out. Siraj, who led India's attack with 6-70 in the first innings, struck an early blow Saturday when he removed Zak Crawley for a duck as a loose drive went straight to backward point. Deep, given the unenviable task of replacing Jasprit Bumrah, the world's number one ranked fast bowler, then carried on from his four-wicket haul first-time around by bowling left-hander Ben Duckett (25) with a nip-back ball. He then clean bowled Joe Root for just six as the world's number one-ranked Test batsman was undone by a superb full-length ball that moved away late. Earlier, by taking his tally in this match to 430 runs, the 25-year-old Gill became only the fifth batsman to score 400 or more runs in a single Test. Gill, thrust into the captaincy following Rohit Sharma's shock retirement from Test duty in May, has scored three hundreds in his first four innings as skipper following his 147 during India's defeat in the first Test at Headingley. He was ably assisted earlier Saturday by Rishabh Pant, who made England pay dearly for dropping him twice, including a poor miss by Crawley at mid-off when the wicketkeeper had made just 10. Pant cashed in with a typically dashing 65 during a fourth-wicket partnership of 110 in just 103 balls with his skipper. Tongue lashing But Gill, often a classical stylist, showed he could bat just as aggressively as Pant by hitting fast bowler Josh Tongue for three consecutive boundaries, with a superb hooked six followed by a swiped four over mid-on and a scorching pull that England captain Ben Stokes could not stop. Gill, batting in the number four slot previously occupied by India star Virat Kohli, who retired just days after Rohit, hooked another six off Tongue. Pant's dashing display ended when, trying to smash off-spinner Shoaib Bashir, he lost control of his bat, which flew to midwicket while the ball went to deep mid-off -- where Duckett made no mistake with the catch. Pant faced just 58 balls, including eight fours and three sixes. After tea, Gill piled on the runs with a brilliant straight six and two fours off consecutive balls from Chris Woakes, before slog-sweeping part-time off-spinner Root for six to go to 150 in superb style. There was a comical moment next ball when Ollie Pope, with sunglasses on top of his cap rather than over his eyes, lost sight of a chance in the deep. Gill's brilliant display finally ended when he spooned a simple return catch to Bashir, having hit 13 fours and eight sixes in his latest masterclass. There were crowd chants of "Boring, boring India" as the tourists batted on before Gill finally called a halt, with Ravindra Jadeja 69 not out.

Seahawks could target Pittsburgh QB Eli Holstein in 2026 NFL Draft amid uncertainty around Sam Darnold and Jalen Milroe

Eli Holstein could be Seattle's next QB target in 2026 (Image via: Getty Images) The Seattle Seahawks completely revamped their quarterback room in 2025, parting ways with veteran Geno Smith. In his place, they signed Sam Darnold to a three-year deal, drafted former Alabama standout Jalen Milroe in the third round, and also brought back Drew Lock via free agency, indicating a full reset at the most important position. Why Eli Holstein could be on Seattle's Radar in 2026 Despite the current trio, speculation about the Seahawks drafting another quarterback in 2026 is gaining traction. According to Pro Football Network's Max Dorsey, Seattle may use a third-round pick on Pittsburgh's Eli Holstein, a promising but unproven signal-caller who transferred from Alabama in 2024. Holstein, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound quarterback, put up decent numbers in his first season with Pittsburgh—throwing for 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 61.9% of his passes. He also showcased some mobility with three rushing scores. Though not yet a top-tier prospect, Holstein's size, arm strength, and ability to play within the pocket make him an intriguing Day 2 option for the 2026 NFL Draft. "Being Compared To Dan Marino..." Pitt Freshman QB Eli Holstein Is On Pace For A HISTORIC Season 👀 The Seahawks are clearly building a quarterback pipeline. Darnold is the present, but not necessarily the long-term answer. Milroe, while physically gifted, remains raw and inconsistent. If he flashes potential in his rookie season but fails to fully lock down the job, Seattle could find themselves looking for another developmental option next April. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 해외 대란 "특허성분" 바르자마자 주름/기미 안보인다!? 콜라겐 300배 "이것" 피부 재생 특허원료 Undo Holstein fits that mold—young, coachable, and with upside to eventually challenge for the starting role. Selecting another quarterback just a year after drafting Milroe could raise eyebrows. Teams typically give rookie quarterbacks more than one season to prove themselves, especially those taken in the top three rounds. If Milroe shows real growth, it's unlikely Seattle burns another Day 2 pick at the same position. Seattle has shown a willingness to stack talent at quarterback. With the NFL's increasing reliance on depth at the position and uncertainty around Darnold's long-term value, keeping options open makes strategic sense. Also Read: Joe Burrow opens up about how his childhood fashion was inspired by mom Robin in Netflix's Quarterback teaser In the end, Eli Holstein's development at Pittsburgh in 2025 will be key. If he puts together a breakout campaign, don't be surprised if his name starts buzzing in Seattle's draft war room come 2026.
