Endrick ends journey with JDT and makes Vietnam his permanent base
The naturalised Brazilian midfielder, who was linked with a move to Kuala Lumpur earlier this month, opted instead to continue his career in Vietnam's top flight.
The 30-year-old Santos said he has officially parted ways with the Malaysian giants Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) to sign full-time with Ho Chi Minh City.
'I'm delighted with this opportunity and even happier that the club trust me,' said Santos, who represented the club on loan last season.
'Now with a permanent contract, I hope to perform even better than the last season and help the team with more goals and assists.'
The midfielder played 24 matches last year, contributing two goals and five assists.
'Under the new management, we aim to fight at the top of the table. I'll give my best in every game to help make that happen.'
Last season, Ho Chi Minh City finished 10th in the 14-team league with 28 points. Now, they are striving to challenge heavyweights such as Nam Dinh, Hanoi, and Viettel.
Santos paid tribute to his time at JDT, crediting the club for shaping him into a more complete professional.
'Johor helped me grow a lot. When you train with great professionals and athletes, improvement comes naturally,' he said.
'I want to thank our boss (Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim) for the opportunity and caring for me. I wish him and JDT continued success.'

Turtles turn the tide after coach Badrul's halftime call
PETALING JAYA: A simple halftime reminder proved the spark for Terengganu's dominant 3-0 win over Penang in their Super League opener on Sunday. In a rain-soaked encounter at the City Stadium in Georgetown, the first half was lively but goalless, with the Turtles carving out numerous openings through French striker Yan Mabella and Brazilian winger Gabriel Silva. Penang goalkeeper Khairulazhan Khalid produced a string of excellent saves, while both teams were denied potential penalties by referee Khairulsyahmi Ahmad Khalidi. At the break, Terengganu coach Badrul Afzan Razali kept his message clear – be patient. 'I reminded the boys to be a bit more patient in the second half. 'We had the ball, so we just needed to make quick attacks and play the right through passes. 'We worked well as a unit and deserved the win,' said Badrul. The response was instant. Four minutes into the second half, centreback Safwan Mazlan split the defence with a pass to Azam Azmi Murad, who fired low past Khairulazhan. Six minutes later, Mabella found Silva, whose toe-poke made it 2-0. Badrul then rotated his attack to keep players fresh, a move that paid off when substitute Khala'if Naskam scored with his first touch in the 88th minute, latching onto fellow substitute Baqiuddin Shamsuddin's through ball. 'Khala'if came in and scored — it was perfect for us,' Badrul said. The win gave Terengganu a flying start to their campaign, while Penang coach Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail admitted his side 'lost rhythm' after the interval. Terengganu next host Police in Gong Badak tomorrow, while Penang face Melaka in Hang Jebat.

l Ruventhiran begins big move for self-growth in Manila
Welcome aboard: V. Ruventhiran (back, left) with his new teammates in Taguig. PETALING JAYA: Malaysian footballer V. Ruventhiran has taken the bold step of moving overseas for the first time in his career, joining Aguilas-UMak in the Philippines Football League (PFL). For him, the move to the club in Taguig is a chance to grow. 'I wanted a new environment, a new challenge, and new exposure. It will help me learn a lot and mature,' said Ruventhiran. 'The coach (Jorg Steinebrunner) convinced me to join. They play good football and adapt with different formations.' He has already played for the club in friendly matches at the University of Makati Stadium. 'Their game is aggressive and intense. They also have league clubs competing in the continental stages.' Ruventhiran, who will turn 24 on Aug 24, has previously played for Petaling Jaya City and Selangor in the Super League, earning nine caps for the national team since debuting in 2022. Under the helm of German coach Steinebrunner, a familiar name in Malaysian football after past stints with Negri Sembilan and Kelantan, winger Ruventhiran hopes to help his new club do better than their sixth-place finish in the 10-team PFL last season. 'It's a young management, and they are hungry to achieve big things. 'I loved their plan for the season,' said Ruventhiran, who sealed the deal through his agency Rookbook Sports. 'This is my first year coming out from Malaysia. I'm just looking forward to a nice and positive environment. 'They have showed a lot of belief in me and I'm happy to be one of the Malaysian players to play here,' he added. Another Malaysian M. Alexander will also play in the PFL with the Mendiola club.

Out of comfort zone
New place, new challenge: V. Annil in his new colours after signing for Nakhon Si United. — Nakhon Si United PETALING JAYA: When Malaysian footballer V. Annil walked into Nakhon Si United's training ground for the first time, it was not just a new club he was stepping into, it was the next stage of his football journey. The 21-year-old from Kajang, Selangor, has already experienced football far from home, having spent the past few years in Germany with Freiburger II and later Waldhof Mannheim. But his latest move, to Thai League Two, is more than just another transfer. It is about pushing himself beyond his comfort zone. 'I always like to leave my comfort zone and try to learn something new,' said Annil. 'Thailand has been a big name in Southeast Asia for a while now, so I think playing here will definitely help me improve and develop myself.' Tall and commanding at 1.86m, Annil can operate both as a centreback and a defensive midfielder. He has already represented Malaysia's Under-23 team four times, but his sights are firmly set on adding more caps and perhaps even securing a permanent place in the squad for upcoming tournaments. 'My goal is also to get called up with the Under-23 national team,' he said with quiet determination. 'I believe I'm in the right place mentally and physically to bring something to the team, but first I need to prove myself in the Thai league.' The decision to move came after a period of weighing up his options. There were talks with clubs back home in Malaysia, and even a short training stint in Brunei. But the chance to join Nakhon Si United, a club that finished ninth out of 18 teams last season, proved too compelling to pass up. 'It's a great opportunity to play here in this competitive Thai League Two. I've had verbal offers from Thailand for quite a while, and I felt it was the right time to move to first-team football and get as much playing time as possible.' 'Nakhon Si has great vision and the coaching staff are super tactical.' The team are currently under an interim coach while they await the arrival of a new European head coach, but Annil has already had conversations with both about his role. 'He wants to see me develop myself as a centreback and use my strengths, such as physicality and height, and work well within his tactical formation.' After years in Europe, Annil believes his tactical understanding and adaptability will serve him well in Thailand. Yet, this move is also about rediscovering himself in a new environment. 'I feel good and ready to start in Asia now. It's been a lot of years in Europe, and I've learned so much on the field tactically. 'Now I want to show what I have learned, test myself in a different league, and keep improving.'
