Congress, allies doing vote-bank politics: BJP

Economic Times2 days ago
Synopsis
BJP criticized Congress and the INDIA bloc for their protest, accusing them of anti-constitutional activities and vote-bank politics. Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted Congress's despair from repeated defeats and alleged they are promoting chaos by gathering crowds instead of sending representatives to meet with the ECI. He further claimed they are trying to serve their political interests by enlisting infiltrators as voters.
BJP on Monday launched an attack on Congress and INDIA bloc parties over their protest on Monday. Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said INDIA bloc, especially Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, invokes the Constitution every now and then, but the country is also witnessing that Gandhi is the ringleader of anyone carrying out the highest number of anti-constitutional activities."The Congress party's lack of direction has become its dilemma. SIR is not being conducted for the first time. It is a regular nationwide process of the EC in every state. Since independence, the EC has had an independent and continuous process to refine and organise the electoral roll," Pradhan said at a press conference at the BJP headquarters here. "Congress first lies about EVMs, sometimes raises the issue of Maharashtra, sometimes of Haryana, and builds a new mountain of lies. Congress has reached a state of despair due to the continuous defeats in many states, especially in 2014, 2019, and 2024," he said.
Pradhan accused Congress and its allies of being engaged solely in vote-bank politics. "By making infiltrators into voters, they want to serve their political interests."Pradhan criticised Gandhi for his using words like 'atom bomb' and said that similar vocabulary is being used by the rival country.Talking about the Opposition march, Pradhan alleged that it was akin to promoting chaos in the country.
"According to information I received through the media, ECI allowed 30 representatives to meet. But instead of sending those 30 representatives, you gather a crowd and stage a photo opportunity. Is this not akin to promoting chaos in the country," he asked. He alleged Congress is pained that power has gone outside their (Gandhi) family.

40 Thakur legislators announce formation of ‘kutumb parivar'

More than 40 legislators belonging to the Thakur (Rajput) community in Uttar Pradesh held a meeting in Lucknow and later announced the formation of a 'Kutumb Parivar' (family of a community), according to sources. The gathering, held on Monday evening at a five-star hotel, included MLAs and MLCs, mostly from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Two Samajwadi Party rebels – MLAs Rakesh Pratap Singh and Abhay Singh – and the lone BSP MLA Uma Shankar Singh also took part in the meeting, the sources added. Organised by BJP MLA from Kundarki Assembly segment, Ramveer Singh, and Moradabad MLC Jaipal Singh Vyast, according to posters put up at the venue, the meeting assumes significance amid the perceived discontent among Thakurs, especially after the ruling BJP denied tickets to several community leaders to accommodate candidates from other castes in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. An otherwise influential caste group, the community has nearly 50 MLAs in the 403-member State Assembly at present. Out of them, 43 were elected on BJP tickets in the 2022 Assembly poll. While the legislators who participated in the gathering described it as a courtesy meeting, 'more like a family function', the development is being seen as a show of strength amid growing murmurs of brewing discontentment. Talking to The Hindu, Mr. Vyast dismissed the rumblings, saying, 'It [the gathering] was largely a non-political get-together and was not limited to any particular caste... MLAs from various social groups participated in it.'

Former BJP District Chief Slams MLC Challa Venkata Rami Reddy for Neglecting Alampur Constituency

Gadwal: Former BJP Jogulamba Gadwal District President Ramachandra Reddy has made sensational remarks against MLC Challa Venkata Rami Reddy, accusing him of neglecting the people of Alampur constituency. Speaking to the media after inspecting waterlogging in Gajulapeta, which resembled a small lake following light rains, Ramachandra Reddy criticized the MLC for allegedly spending most of his time in Hyderabad or Kurnool instead of addressing local issues. The inspection was conducted under the leadership of Ayija BJP Town President Kompati Bhagat Reddy. Reddy alleged that despite the constituency facing numerous problems — such as damaged roads and bridges, villages resembling lakes after rains, cotton farmers in distress, incomplete works at the 100-bed hospital, pending Tumilla (Mallamma Kunta) reservoir, unfinished Chinonpalli link, uncompleted Nettempadu package-99, and lack of progress on linking RDS at Vemula — authorities have failed to respond to repeated appeals. He further criticized local Congress leaders for mocking residents by asking, 'Did you even vote for us?' Reddy claimed that despite supporting the MLC's preferred candidates in 2004, 2009, 2014, and 2023, the MLC rarely visits the constituency and fails to address public grievances or even answer calls, appearing only during elections. 'When people are in distress, you don't come. Why should they vote for you?' he questioned, warning that in the upcoming local body elections, voters would teach a lesson to the BRS and Congress parties alike. The event was attended by Zilla Parishad Member Pradeep Kumar, Ayija Town Vice-President Bellamkonda Nagaraju, OBC Morcha Ayija Town President Venkatesh, Telugu Narsimhulu, Gadiga Raghu, and local residents.
