Outstanding tahfiz students to receive full scholarships
Ahmad Zahid said he would soon hold discussions with Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki to realise this initiative.
'This 100 per cent scholarship is already a practice under MARA's Education Institutions (IPMA) for top-performing students, and this year, we will prioritise tahfiz school students for admission to UniKL and UPTM.
'These students are not only 'huffaz' (memorisers of the Quran) but will also go on to become professionals in their respective fields after graduation,' he said when met by reporters at the 2025 Huffaz Graduation and Ulul Albab excellence appreciation ceremony at Sekolah Menengah Imtiaz Ulul Albab Melaka here today.
Also present was chairman of the school's board of governors, Prof Datuk Dr Mizan Hitam, who is also a member of the Melaka Islamic Religious Council (MAIM).
A total of 82 students completed the memorisation of all 30 juzuk (chapters) of the Quran throughout 2024, while 46 students received SPM 2024 excellence awards during the ceremony.
On the upcoming National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Day 2025, to be held at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) from June 11 to 13, Ahmad Zahid said the event would feature new and exciting elements this year.
He said these elements would include electric vehicles (EV), information technology (IT) and eSports.
'We're opening the doors wide for prospective students and participants to explore what TVET institutions across the country have to offer through exhibitions that showcase opportunities available to them once they enrol.
'More than that, they'll get a glimpse of the career prospects and salary scales that await them upon graduating from these institutions,' he added.

Mohd Naim also visited Ma'ahad An-Noer, a centre for higher Islamic and Al-Quran studies founded by Syeikh Muhammad Nuruddin Marbu Al-Banjari Al-Makki. He said the ma'ahad played a key role in producing Islamic scholars and huffaz (Quran memorisers), who are valuable assets to the ummah. In support of this noble effort, Mohd Naim also approved immediate assistance of RM20,000 to help implement the educational programmes and activities planned by the ma'ahad. 'It is hoped that this contribution will strengthen the role of Ma'ahad An-Noer in educating the younger generation in religious knowledge, fostering appreciation of the Quran, and developing leadership based on Islamic values.

Speaking at the Sarawak Education Expo and Career Day here today, Lee emphasised that education plays a crucial role in preparing the younger generation for these changes. Mara's proposed financing scheme can boost Bumiputera role in renewable energy, tech industries

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Rubiah Wang, said that while the proposal is promising, no official decision has been made as it still requires further discussions at a higher level. She was speaking to reporters during a walkabout at the DuriCendol premises on Friday, accompanied by Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan. 'As you are all aware, Sarawak is now home to many technology-based and green energy industries, and many of our sub-contractors are involved in these sectors,' she said. 'Their main challenge, as highlighted by YB Lidam, is in securing capital (financing).' Rubiah said she had raised the possibility with Mara of setting up a targeted financing scheme to address this gap. 'I have asked Mara to look into the possibility of creating such a fund so we can produce more Bumiputera entrepreneurs in technology and renewable energy sectors in Sarawak. That is our intention,' she said. 'However, this matter is still under consideration and must be brought to the attention of the ministry and Mara management for further deliberation.'
