Felda youth pivotal for Malaysia's future success, says Ahmad Shabery
KUALA LUMPUR: The younger generation of the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) should not be seen merely as 'settlers' children' but as future leaders capable of contributing meaningfully to the nation, said Felda Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek. He said many Felda youths have already gained international recognition. 'One day, Felda will produce outstanding individuals, not just for Felda, but for our beloved country,' he said during the Felda Settlers' Appreciation Ceremony held in conjunction with the Mega 3D Carnival 2025 here today. It was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Also present were Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang and FGV Holdings Bhd (FGV) Chairman Tan Sri Rastam Mohd Isa. Expanding on this, Ahmad Shabery cited the example of Felda students from the Ulul Albab Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) in Felda Trolak who recently won the Golden Diploma Award at the 2025 International Wind Orchestra Festival held in Prague, Czech Republic, last June. He said the MARESMAF Wind Orchestra (MAWO) team triumphed over seven orchestras from six different countries, proving that Felda now stands at an important and meaningful juncture for the nation. 'There are many MRSMs in Malaysia, so why is special attention given to MRSM Trolak? Because it is the Felda MRSM — the children and grandchildren of Felda settlers... their mastery of the Ulul Albab discipline, memorising the Qur'an, and now emerging champions in an international competition in Prague,' he said. At the same time, he expressed appreciation to the Government for its ongoing support, and to Ahmad Zahid — who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development — for consistently inquiring into Felda's needs. 'Having Government leadership that understands and empathises with Felda is crucial, and Datuk Seri (Ahmad Zahid) is always asking what Felda's challenges are and how they can be helped... many forms of assistance have been extended under his ministry from time to time,' he added. - Bernama

Zahid: Profit target a game changer for rural development
KOTA KINABALU: The Rural and Regional Development Ministry has made it mandatory for all agencies and subsidiaries under its purview to generate profits as part of a game-changing move introduced by the ministry. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said companies or subsidiaries that fail to record profits may face a management buy-out (MBO) or full closure. He said the ministry is implementing a comprehensive and radical strategy to ensure that every agency and subsidiary delivers meaningful impact. "We are giving them just one year to become profitable. I am not merely issuing orders — I am also hands-on, going to the ground to guide them," he said at a press conference after officiating the Sabah Women Empowerment Programme at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here today. The programme, jointly organised by the ministry and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), was attended by about 1,500 women entrepreneurs from across Sabah. Also present were Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang, Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, and MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki. Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said each agency under the ministry has been given clear targets based on its operational focus. He said failure to meet key performance indicators (KPIs) would be investigated, while agencies achieving their targets would still be challenged to improve. "Achieving the KPI doesn't mean the job is done. We will ask again — what more can be done better?" he said. He added that the same approach is being applied in the education sector, particularly through MARA, with a new model that combines academic excellence with spiritual development. According to him, 57 MARA Junior Science Colleges (MRSMs) nationwide have adopted the Ulul Albab model, where Quran memorisation begins as early as Form 1, without neglecting science and professional subjects. "This not only produces excellent students but also individuals with noble character and strong values. This is the real game changer in education," he said. Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid said the ministry has adopted an engagement-based approach by providing support, encouragement and motivation to employees at all levels. "When they feel appreciated, their work spirit rises. This is the new work culture we are introducing," he said. Earlier, in his speech, Ahmad Zahid also praised MARA for focusing not only on education but also on areas such as women's entrepreneurship. "Entrepreneurship is also prioritised, including empowering women in this sector, which aligns with our trust in women's abilities in financial management," he said.

Outstanding tahfiz students to receive full scholarships at UniKL, UPTM
MELAKA: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has assured that outstanding tahfiz students who excel in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination will be awarded full scholarships should they pursue higher education at Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and Universiti Poly-Tech MARA (UPTM). Ahmad Zahid said he would soon hold discussions with Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki to realise this initiative. 'This 100 per cent scholarship is already a practice under MARA's Education Institutions (IPMA) for top-performing students, and this year, we will prioritise tahfiz school students for admission to UniKL and UPTM. 'These students are not only 'huffaz' (memorisers of the Quran) but will also go on to become professionals in their respective fields after graduation,' he said when met by reporters at the 2025 Huffaz Graduation and Ulul Albab excellence appreciation ceremony at Sekolah Menengah Imtiaz Ulul Albab Melaka here today. Also present was chairman of the school's board of governors, Prof Datuk Dr Mizan Hitam, who is also a member of the Melaka Islamic Religious Council (MAIM). A total of 82 students completed the memorisation of all 30 juzuk (chapters) of the Quran throughout 2024, while 46 students received SPM 2024 excellence awards during the ceremony. On the upcoming National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Day 2025, to be held at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) from June 11 to 13, Ahmad Zahid said the event would feature new and exciting elements this year. He said these elements would include electric vehicles (EV), information technology (IT) and eSports. 'We're opening the doors wide for prospective students and participants to explore what TVET institutions across the country have to offer through exhibitions that showcase opportunities available to them once they enrol. 'More than that, they'll get a glimpse of the career prospects and salary scales that await them upon graduating from these institutions,' he added.
