7 Delhi Police personnel suspended as dummy bomb goes undetected in Red Fort security drill
The suspended cops, included constables and head constables, deployed for the security of the Red Fort "due to negligence" in security, ANI reported. Every year, the prime minister addresses the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort after flag hoisting ceremony.
The security drill is being undertaken by the Delhi Police on a daily basis as a part of the preparations for August 15.
Delhi police told ANI that the drill was conducted by the Special Cell on Saturday, during which they dressed up as civilians and entered the Red Fort premises with a dummy bomb. "At that time, the policemen deployed for the security of the Red Fort could not trace the bomb, due to which they were suspended," the police added.
In the weak leading up the Independence Day, security at the Red Fort has been beefed up with the area being declared a high-security zone. Independence Day marks the occasion when the Prime Minister hoists the Tricolour and addresses the nation.
Meanwhile, a comprehensive security plan has been prepared for the area, ranging from a full-scale census of residents to the deployment of high-tech video analytics and advanced vehicle scanning systems. This year, for the first time, five types of surveillance cameras will be deployed in the days preceding the Independence Day celebrations. This will include headcount cameras, which tell the number of people in a frame and are designed to highlight suspicious objects.

In a separate incident, five Bangladeshi illegal immigrants were arrested by the Delhi Police on Monday as they tried to forcibly enter the Red Fort premises. The police arrested all of them, and an investigation has now been launched.
Talking about the arrested people, Delhi Police told ANI, "The age of all of them is around 20-25 years, and they work as labourers in Delhi.' Further, the police also recovered some Bangladeshi documents from them. All the arrested people are now being investigated, police added.

Barak leaders slam Malviya for calling Sylheti ‘B'deshi language'
Silchar: Leaders from various parties in the Barak Valley, including BJP, have criticised the party's IT cell head Amit Malviya for calling Sylheti, a dialect of Bengali, a "Bangladeshi language". The remark defending Delhi Police's controversial terminology, has sparked widespread backlash in Assam's Bengali-majority regions. BJP RS MP from Silchar, Kanad Purkayastha, wrote to Malviya, expressing "deep disappointment" over the remark. ‘Lakhpati didis' from UP to attend I-Day celebrations at Red Fort
Lucknow: The central govt has invited 14 'lakhpati didis' from UP to attend Independence Day celebrations at Delhi's Red Fort. A state govt spokesperson said the women, part of a 700-strong contingent from across the country, are members of SHGs and are being honoured by the central govt for their inspiring journey towards self-reliance. Mission director Deepa Ranjan said that members of SHGs are running small businesses from their homes, making products like ghee, pickles, papad and snacks. "In doing so, they are not only improving their own lives but also supporting and uplifting other women. Out of these inspiring women, 14 lakhpati didis have been selected to attend the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort in Delhi on Aug 15. There is great excitement among them. Each Lakhpati Didi will travel to Delhi with her husband or a companion," she said. The ministry of defence will take care of their stay and food arrangements, and they will be hosted by Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Two special representatives from the UP govt will also accompany them to guide and assist during their visit. All arrangements are being made as per the directions of CM Yogi Adityanath. Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya will see them off from Lucknow. "This moment is not just an honour but also a clear recognition of the strength, confidence and hard work of rural women. Under the leadership of the CM, women in the state are becoming stronger economically, socially and mentally, Ranjan added.
