The Commander of Airport Police Division and Assistant Commissioner of Police M Malathi said: "I would like to commend Mr Visvanathan for his public-spiritedness.

SEOUL – South Korea has introduced new restrictions on foreign property purchases in the greater Seoul area, its latest effort to curb housing prices. The new measures unveiled by the government on Aug 21 will require foreigners to get prior approval to buy a property from Aug 26. Those granted approval must move into the home within four months of receiving permission and reside there for at least two years after the purchase, the land ministry said, adding that the policy will remain in effect for one year. The measures are aimed at countering speculation in the housing market , the ministry added. The number of housing transactions by foreigners has increased by an average of 26 per cent annually since 2022, rising from 4,568 that year to 7,296 in 2024, the ministry said. Chinese nationals account for 73 per cent of those purchases, followed by US citizens at 14 per cent. Gyeonggi Province accounted for 62 per cent of such purchases in the Seoul metropolitan area, followed by Incheon at 20 per cent. Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. The Bank of Korea's rate cuts since 2024 have fuelled demand, adding to speculative buying. Mr Lee's administration tightened mortgage lending in June, but apartment prices remain elevated and have risen for 29 consecutive weeks. The property boom, coupled with swelling household debt , has discouraged the Bank of Korea from cutting rates further even as the export-driven economy shows signs of weakness following new US tariffs. Total household debt rose by 24.6 trillion won (S$22.7 billion) in the April-June period, the biggest quarterly gain since the third quarter of 2021. BLOOMBERG

MOM will soon have online feature for public to report illegal delivery riders: Koh Poh Koon, Singapore News

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) will be adding a dedicated tab on its website for members of the public to report illegal delivery riders. The tab will make it easier for the public to alert the ministry when they see foreign workers doing delivery work, said Senior Minister of State for Health and Manpower Koh Poh Koon in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Aug 20). This comes after recent islandwide enforcement operations by MOM — during which three foreigners were arrested for working in food delivery illegally. In his post, Dr Koh also thanked local delivery riders for their support during the operations. "In the middle of their own busy shifts, 372 riders took the time — about 10 minutes each — to assist our officers. For food delivery riders, every minute counts," he said. "Their willingness to pause and help was no small sacrifice, and we are deeply grateful for their co-operation and sense of responsibility." Dr Koh explained that while such checks may cause inconvenience to various parties, they are crucial. "Illegal delivery work undercuts our local platform workers and enforcement ensures a level playing field for all," he said. Before the dedicated tab is added to MOM's website, members of the public can report suspected cases at [[nid:721470]]
