Emirates opens new Dh3mn Cabin Crew facility in Dubai – the ‘Crew Zone'
The innovative and pioneering crew engagement area was in development for 9 months, and at an investment of AED 3 million, it aims to provide Emirates' crew with a welcoming area to grab a coffee and snack while finalising inflight reports, seek advice from stakeholders and colleagues, attend workshops on both professional and personal topics, have a consultation at the Beauty Hub, collect documents and devices, or unwind and recharge with colleagues.
The spacious area can accommodate up to 200 crew at a time, with 7 different zones and services and is located on the Ground Floor of the Emirates Group Headquarters in Dubai. Highlighting Emirates' commitment to employee wellbeing and development, the dedicated zone supports professional growth for valued crew members and aims to promote a sense of community between the crew and other departments.

Emirates One Device Hub - This space offers a seamless technological experience for cabin crew, staffed on a 24/7 basis to assist with questions about Emirates' One Device programme. Dedicated to simplifying work processes through innovation, the One Device programme leverages Apple products, and Emirates Cabin Crew receive an iPhone or iPad Air configured with custom Emirates apps to improve and streamline passenger service onboard, as well as enhancing the overall crew experience. Emirates makes changes to safety rules for customer usage of power banks onboard
Muscat: Using any kind of power bank is prohibited onboard Emirates' flights, effective from the 1, October 2025. A power bank is a portable, rechargeable device primarily designed to provide power to other electronic devices such smart phones, tablets, laptops and cameras. Emirates customers are still permitted to carry one power bank onboard with specific conditions listed below, but the power banks may not be used while in the aircraft cabin – neither to charge devices from the power bank, nor to be charged themselves using the aircrafts' power source. Emirates' new regulations include: - Emirates customers may carry one power bank that is under 100 Watt Hours. - Power banks may not be used to charge any personal devices onboard. - Charging a power bank using the aircraft's power supply is not permitted. - All power banks accepted for transport must have capacity rating information available. -Power banks may not be placed in the overhead stowage bin onboard the aircraft and must now be placed in the seat pocket or in a bag under the seat in front of you. -Power banks are not permitted in checked luggage (existing rule). Why is Emirates making this change? After a comprehensive safety review, Emirates is taking a firm and proactive stance to mitigate risk when it comes to power banks onboard. There has been a significant growth in customers using power banks in recent years, resulting in an increasing number of lithium battery-related incidents onboard flights across the wider aviation industry. Power banks primarily utilize lithium-ion or lithium-polymer batteries, and their function is as a portable battery pack designed to recharge devices on the go. The batteries contain lithium ions suspended in an electrolyte solution. The ions flow through the electrolyte, travelling back and forth between two electrodes as the battery charges and discharges. If the battery is overcharged or damaged, it may result in 'thermal runaway.' Thermal runaway in batteries is a self-accelerating process where heat generation within a battery cell exceeds its ability to dissipate heat, leading to a rapid and uncontrollable temperature increase. This can result in dangerous consequences like fire, explosions, and the release of toxic gases. Most phones and sophisticated lithium battery-powered devices have an internal trickle system which slowly adds current into the battery to prevent overcharging, but many basic power banks may not have this safeguard, increasing the risk. All power banks are subject to the new rules onboard Emirates. Emirates new regulations will significantly reduce risks associated with power banks by prohibiting their use while onboard the aircraft. Storing power banks in accessible locations within the cabin ensures that in the rare event of a fire, trained cabin crew can quickly respond and extinguish the fire.

How to put your phone in vacation mode
JD Biersdorfer Ready to get away for that late-summer vacation and want fewer interruptions from your phone or tablet while you're gone? Consider setting up a custom Vacation mode that sends most callers to voicemail and mutes notifications from unimportant apps — but still allows calls and messages from specific people to get through, as well as alerts from designated apps. You just have to set up the Vacation mode once, and then turn it on whenever you're off. Here's how. Using Apple Devices Apple's Focus feature is meant to help limit distractions on an iPhone, an iPad, a Mac, an Apple Watch or a Vision Pro headset so you can, well, focus. Along with the Do Not Disturb setting, which blocks most disruptions with a tap, Focus has other preset modes — or you can make your own. On an iPhone or iPad, tap the Settings icon, scroll down and select Focus from the menu. On the Focus screen, tap the + button in the upper-right corner and select Custom from the menu. On the next screen, you can give your custom creation a label (like Vacation) and select an icon and color for it. When you tap the Next button at the bottom of the screen, you'll see a list of options you can choose for your new mode. Tap the Customize button to continue. On the next screen, select the people who can contact you and the apps allowed to send notifications when your phone is in Vacation mode. If you want relatives, the cat-sitter and your landlord to be able to reach you, add them to the list. Likewise, select the apps that can send you notifications — perhaps your weather and sports favorites. (Tap the Options menu for the settings on how the silenced notifications are displayed.) The Focus settings in Apples software for its iPhone and other devices guide you through creating a custom mode that permits interruptions only from designated people and apps You can choose a more muted look for your phone's display and set a schedule to automatically activate your Vacation mode — at a specific time or a location, like your rented beach house. The Vacation mode can be enabled manually in the Control Center or by telling Siri, the phone's assistant, to turn it on or off. On the main Focus menu, there's an option to use your active Focus mode across all your Apple gear that is logged in with the same Apple ID. And turn on Focus Status to display a note saying you have notifications silenced when people try to text you. Using Android Devices Android's Modes work in a similar way, and you can easily customise them. Open the Settings icon and select Modes from the menu. From the list on-screen, tap Create Your Own Mode. (Android also has a default Do Not Disturb mode and a few other activity-specific configurations, like Driving and Bedtime.) On the next screen, give your mode a name and icon. Tap the Done button to go to the next screen. In the Notification Filters area, select the people, apps and alarms permitted to interrupt you. The Display Settings section offers options for showing filtered notifications and the screen's appearance while the mode is active. After you have configured Vacation mode, you can give it an automatic schedule to activate itself. Alternatively, you can enable it manually from the mode's settings page, by swiping down from the top of the screen and choosing it from the Modes menu in Android's Quick Settings, or by telling the Gemini assistant to handle it. On Androids Modes screen, select Create Your Own Mode at the bottom of the screen to start setting up your personalized Vacation mode. Controlling Notifications If setting up a Vacation mode doesn't appeal and you simply want fewer app alerts popping up, just modify how and when notifications can pester you. For example, you can confine them to a daily summary. On an iOS device, open the Settings icon and select Notifications from the menu. Here, you can choose how the alerts should be displayed on the lock screen, if they appear in daily summaries and how each app on your phone can notify you (or not). In iOS 18.4 on an iPhone 15 Pro model or later, you can have Apple Intelligence screen your notifications and prioritize time-sensitive alerts and those deemed 'important' based on your contacts and app use. On most recent Android phones, open the Settings icon and select Notifications to get to the controls. Getting Emergency Alerts Certain situations — like dangerous weather — call for immediate interruption even if you are on vacation. Your phone is probably equipped to receive emergency public-safety alerts from national, state and local authorities. When enabled, these notifications override any focus or mode settings. To check these controls on an iPhone, go to Settings, then Notifications, and scroll down to the Government Alerts section. Apple is shutting a store in China, its first closure in the country
Apple will close a store in northeastern China in August, the first time it has shuttered one of its retail locations since it opened its first outlet in the country in 2008. The company said Monday that it would close its store in Dalian City's Parkland Mall on Aug. 9. On social media, locals have described the mall as struggling, noting that other brands like Michael Kors and Armani had closed their stores there. 'Given the departure of several retailers at the Parkland Mall, we have decided to close our store,' said Brian Bumbery, an Apple spokesperson. 'We love serving the Dalian community, and all of our valued team members will have the opportunity to continue their roles with Apple.' The closure is the latest sign of how China's economy continues to be challenged by tepid consumer spending. The government has poured large sums into programs designed to spur purchases of smartphones, washing machines, and electric vehicles. The trade-in programs have gotten people to spend more, but economists say the impact on consumption could be short-lived. The pullback also reflects Apple's ongoing business troubles in China, which is its second-largest market. Apple has reported declining sales in China for six quarters. Last year, it reported total revenue in the country of $66.95 billion, nearly 10% less than its peak of $74.2 billion in 2022. Chinese rivals like Huawei, Xiaomi, and Vivo have eroded Apple's share of the world's largest smartphone market. Last year, Apple's share of sales of smartphones in China fell to 15.5% from 17.9% a year earlier, according to Counterpoint Research, a tech research firm. Apple will continue to operate its other store in Dalian at another shopping mall, Olympia 66. The iPhone maker plans to open a new store in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen this month. With that opening, the company expects to finish 2025 with the same number of stores, 58, as it had at the beginning of the year, even after the Parkland Mall closure.
