Selangor needs RM1bil to boost padi production, says exco
He said the state government will soon engage with the Federal Government to discuss funding through the Integrated Agricultural Development Area (IADA), Northwest Selangor to achieve five planting cycles every two years.
"The funding is crucial to upgrade drainage systems, build water retention ponds, and acquire 80.9 hectares of paddy fields from Tanjong Karang to Sabak Bernam.
"We are facing problems to get water to Sabak Bernam, so we want to increase water capacity in most areas in northwest Selangor so that there is adequate water supply for five planting cycles every two years," he told reporters on Saturday (May 3) and added that the upgrades are important as Selangor has no new land for padi cultivation under current plans.
He then said that he is confident that all infrastructure improvements could be completed within three years if allocations were approved by the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry.
Izham added that Selangor was also fine-tuning new methods to enhance collaboration between farmers and stakeholders, including FGV Holdings Berhad, which has demonstrated large-scale padi yield improvements in the state.
"We have proposed RM100 per ton incentives for farmers achieving seven-ton yields," he said, noting that currently only farmers in Sungai Leman and Sekinchan areas were capable of achieving such yields out of the state's 9,000 padi farmers.
Earlier, Izham attended a farmers' appreciation event in Sungai Leman and launched Briar & Behn Meyer's BASE fertilizer technology at Dewan Seri Sekinchan here. - Bernama

Selangor explores super app for smart parking system implementation
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government is studying the adoption of a super app to streamline the Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP) system. State Islamic Religious Affairs and Innovation Culture Exco Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah confirmed the initiative. He stated the State Digital Infrastructure Committee is evaluating market proposals for seamless smart parking rollout. Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd (RMSB) will oversee operations, with plans to install more CCTV cameras in parking areas. Mohammad Fahmi highlighted Selangor's current parking fee collection rate stands at only 50 per cent. He stressed stricter enforcement is needed as non-compliance rises without monitoring. The new system aims for uniform and organised enforcement to improve revenue. Mohammad Fahmi spoke after the Malaysian Book Of Records Flexi Parking award ceremony. He clarified the state has no plans to raise parking fees, focusing instead on enforcement efficiency. Annual parking revenue in Selangor is estimated at RM100 million but could double to RM200 million. The increased collection will fund infrastructure upgrades and better parking management. - Bernama

Selangor Studies Super App Usage In SIP Implementation
SHAH ALAM, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government is looking into the use of a suitable super app to coordinate the implementation of the Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP) system, said state Islamic Religious Affairs and Innovation Culture Exco Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah. He said the State Digital Infrastructure Committee as the responsible party is awaiting suggestions from the market so that the implementation of smart parking throughout the state runs smoothly. "What is certain is that when this parking operation is taken over by Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd (RMSB), we expect more infrastructure such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to be installed in parking lots in Selangor because that will tighten enforcement. "This is because our collection level for parking areas throughout Selangor is only 50 per cent and the rest cannot be collected because people usually won't pay if there is no enforcement, so we need a more neat, uniform and organised enforcement method," he said. He said this when met after the Malaysian Book Of Records Flexi Parking award presentation ceremony here today. Mohammad Fahmi said that so far the state government has no plans to increase the parking fee rate, thus emphasising that the implementation of smart parking focuses on strengthening enforcement. He said the estimated annual collection of parking lots throughout Selangor reached about RM100 million a year and through the implementation of a more efficient collection system, the amount could reach up to RM200 million. "With the increase, it will be able to be reused to improve infrastructure and also manage existing parking spaces," he said. -- BERNAMA

Singapore woman's RM800K casino win triggers cross-border challenge
LANDING a massive casino jackpot might appear to be pure fortune, but one Singapore woman discovered that claiming and transporting substantial overseas winnings can become a logistical nightmare. Twenty-eight-year-old entrepreneur Sherylynn Kok found herself facing unexpected complications in April after hitting an extraordinary RM800,000 (approximately $244,000) jackpot on a slot machine during a family vacation at Genting Highlands resort in Pahang. According to Straits Times, the frozen food supply company and social media agency owner was enjoying a weekend retreat with her boyfriend and parents when fortune struck on a Friday afternoon. Initially experiencing consecutive losses while machine-hopping, Kok eventually settled at a randomly selected slot machine. 'After switching between multiple machines, I finally chose one at random,' the businesswoman recalled about the life-changing moment. Within five minutes of playing, she activated a bonus round featuring four progressive jackpot levels: mini, minor, major, and grand - each offering increasingly valuable prizes with correspondingly lower probability odds. When she pressed the spin button, the reels aligned perfectly. Three grand prize symbols materialized across the payline, accompanied by a notification confirming her RM800,000 grand jackpot victory. Casino security personnel and staff members immediately approached Kok and her companion to verify the machine and validate the legitimate win. Following confirmation, she was directed to the cashier counter to collect her prize. The substantial payout consisted of eighty RM10,000 notes organized into eight bundles of RM100,000 each, requiring a backpack to transport the 'incredibly heavy' cash load. Given her inexperience handling such enormous amounts, Kok requested security escort services to her hotel accommodation. However, casino staff explained their protection services only extended within the gaming facility boundaries. 'They confirmed security coverage inside the casino premises, but warned they couldn't guarantee safety once we left the building,' she explained. The group implemented overnight shifts to safeguard the money-filled backpack throughout their remaining stay. Their transfer plans encountered immediate obstacles due to weekend banking closures, preventing international money remittance services. Additionally, they discovered that fund transfers required Malaysian bank account access, which none of the Singaporeans possessed. Airport departure procedures revealed another complication: exporting such significant cash amounts required prior approval from Malaysia's central banking authority. While her parents returned to Singapore as scheduled, Kok and her boyfriend remained behind to resolve the financial transfer challenges. The following day, she successfully established a Malaysian OCBC account featuring dual-currency functionality, enabling seamless conversion between ringgit and Singapore dollars. Despite her windfall, Kok maintains disciplined gambling habits, establishing strict loss limits before each gaming session. 'My gambling motivation isn't profit-driven - it's occasional weekend entertainment when I lack other activities,' she stated. Following news of her victory, friends suggested various investment opportunities and luxury purchases. However, Kok's risk-averse personality led her toward conservative financial management. 'Complex investment vehicles are beyond my understanding, so maintaining funds in traditional bank accounts feels considerably safer,' she reasoned. Her cautious approach stems from observing others' financial mismanagement after sudden wealth acquisition. She referenced a acquaintance who squandered a $1.4 million Toto jackpot through impulsive business investments and excessive spending within twelve months. Describing herself as 'low-maintenance,' Kok avoids ostentatious consumption and luxury goods attraction. Instead, she views her winnings as providing career flexibility and reduced professional pressure, rather than enabling complete retirement. 'I consciously avoid developing wealthy mindsets or assuming financial security. Two hundred thousand dollars won't sustain a lifetime,' she concluded pragmatically. ---
