American living in UK shares most 'overhyped things' Brits love including Oasis

Daily Mirror8 hours ago
Kobie Jordan, who moved to London from the US, admits there are three aspects of British culture he feels are 'overhyped' with Gallagher brothers, Liam and Noel topping his list
An American man who now lives in the UK has taken to TikTok to reveal the three aspects of British culture he feels are the most "overhyped". Kobie Jordan, who is known on his social media profiles as Kjordyyy, claims he can't get his head around the natives' fascination with certain things.

"As an American living in London, these are the top three things I think are overhyped in the UK," began Kobie, who works as a model and content creator for brands including the BBC. Ahead of his list, he went on to quip: "Trigger warning - it is just my opinion."

Oasis
While the nation is gripped by Oasis fever, Kobie clearly isn't very fazed by the Gallagher brothers' reunion after 16 years - nor is he impressed by the band's extensive back catalogue.
"First up, Oasis," he declared. "Wonderwall is absolutely an amazing song, but personally I think they're a one-hit wonder and there are a lot better bands and artists in the UK besides Oasis."
Nando's
Next to suffer the American's harsh scrutiny is the restaurant chain, Nando's - one he described as an "average chicken spot". Kobie elaborated: "I just don't understand the hype - for the price it's really not good."

Kobie said he regularly heard people saying: "Nando's this and Nando's that," after arriving in the UK, leading him to think experiencing it himself would be like "heaven". However, he explained to the contrary: "When I took my first bite I was so underwhelmed because it had been so hyped."
Frustrated Kobie added his "go-to" meal, the Sunset Burger with two sides, set him back £16.50 plus an additional £3.95 for a drink. "Is Nando's really worth £20.45 for one meal?" he asked. "No, no, no."
Greggs' Sausage Rolls
Food was on the agenda for Kobie's final point too, this time in the form of the classic British staple, the Greggs sausage roll. "I know this is going to hurt a lot of y'all, but the Greggs' sausage roll... it's an okay pastry with sausage in the middle and Brits talk about it like it's an artisan French pastry," he joked.

Kobie again hit out at the "hype" associated with it. "What I'm starting to think is the UK has a herd mentality when something's good as everyone kind of teems onto that, no matter if they really like it or not," he exclaimed.
The American closed by admitting: "I love Greggs, I just feel like there's better pastries out there. I give Greggs the upper-hand over Nando's because it is much cheaper. It's still overhyped, but what saves it a bit is that it's a bit cheaper."
Writing in response, one TikTok user told Kobie: "If Wonderwall is the only Oasis song you can name, you've not listened to them. It's the most overrated song of theirs. Not even that good."
A second hit out at the American's opinion: "Saying Oasis is a one hit wonder when Wonderwall is nowhere near their best song is just peak American ignorance, Nando's if it cost less would be as good as people say, it's just too expensive to really enjoy, you leave our sausage rolls alone, it's supposed to be a cheap, easy and a reliable quick meal that tastes 7/10."
However, a third person stated: "I'm from the UK and totally agree with Nando's and Greggs. It's just basic chicken it's definitely overhyped."
While a fourth TikTok user concurred: "I totally agree with everything you've said. Never liked Oasis, Nando's is mediocre and Greggs is a last resort at a push."

Alan Sheehan says Swansea plan to build on buzz of Snoop Dogg becoming co-owner

The 53-year-old American rapper joined a growing list of celebrity investors in British football last month by becoming part of a Swansea ownership group that already included Croatia midfield great Luka Modric. Multi award-winning Snoop said Swansea's 'underdog' story 'really struck a chord with me' and his vast following on social media – 89 million on Instagram and 20.5 million on X – quickly learned about the Welsh club and his love for Joe's ice cream in the city. Swansea City is delighted to announce global rap superstar and multi-platinum selling artist @SnoopDogg has become the club's latest high-profile co-owner and investor. 👉 — Swansea City AFC (@SwansOfficial) July 17, 2025 'To have Snoop and Luka on board is a massive benefit,' Swansea boss Sheehan said ahead of Saturday's league opener at Middlesbrough. 'There is a buzz, obviously. As a football club you have to become more appealing commercially, to be more competitive, and appeal to the wider nation. 'It's different to how it was maybe when I was a player, but I understand why, and I totally welcome it. 'Rome wasn't built in a day, but there are big plans for the football club. 'It's about building strong foundations and building that character and resilience within the football club.' Comparisons with Wrexham, who are owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are unavoidable and already being made. The two Welsh clubs are Championship rivals this season after Wrexham became the first team in the top five tiers of English football to win three successive promotions. A docu-series tracking life at Swansea, on similar lines to the award-winning FX show 'Welcome to Wrexham', is understood to be already in the pipeline. Asked if Swansea – who were relegated in 2018 after seven seasons in the Premier League – were the 'new' Wrexham, Sheehan said: 'No, we're Swansea. We're not new anything. 'Now they're in our division, I suppose, it becomes more there now (rivalry), but we don't play them until December. So I won't really be speaking about them until December.' Modric – who joined the board in April following a takeover led by American businessmen Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen six months earlier – was unveiled as an AC Milan player on Monday after his trophy-littered 13-year spell at Real Madrid ended this summer. The 39-year-old has played his part in Sheehan's summer recruitment strategy, actively persuading players to join the Welsh club. 'Obviously, his transfer situation… he was unavailable to come here,' smiled Sheehan. 'We've had a few text messages and he's involved. 'Luka has spoke to some players, passed on his knowledge, what he knows about the football club, and the plans that we have for it. 'Snoop and Luka are very invested in the club. They care, they speak through the ownership and the ownership are very good to us.' So will Grammy-nominated Snoop soon be swapping California for Swansea to watch a game? 'I believe so,' said Sheehan. 'But I'm not sure which game yet. It would be very naive and narrow-minded to think two very successful people in what they do could not help us. 'Successful people have a lot in common – a work ethic, a grit, a determination to get where they want to get to. So with Snoop, Luka and the ownership there is a lot of positivity around the football club.'

Chad Michael Murray embraces his teen heartthrob legacy: ‘It's a blessing'

Chad Michael Murray embraces his teen heartthrob legacy: 'It's a blessing' The American actor, 43, rose to fame in the early 2000s, appearing in TV series such as Gilmore Girls and Dawson's Creek, before landing the lead role in the teenage drama series One Tree Hill. Chad Michael Murray attends the special screening of Mother of The Bride at The Bay Theater on May 08, 2024 (Image: 2024 Getty Images) Chad Michael Murray says he embraces his teenage heartthrob legacy, calling it a blessing. ‌ The American actor, 43, rose to fame in the early 2000s, appearing in TV series such as Gilmore Girls and Dawson's Creek, before landing the lead role in the teenage drama series One Tree Hill. ‌ Murray, who also starred in the 2003 comedy film Freaky Friday alongside Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, gained a reputation as a heartthrob among teenage girls during this era. ‌ The father–of-three, who is reprising his role as Jake, Lohan's character Anna's former love interest, in Freakier Friday, says he feels very fortunate to have had such an impact on a generation. "I'm very, very blessed, very fortunate and lucky to be a part of a lot of really great movies and great stories that have affected a generation," Murray told the PA news agency. "That's really the only reason to be an actor for me. I just wanted to make people happy." ‌ Murray, who grew up in a single father household in Buffalo, New York, says he moved to Hollywood, when he was 18 years old to pursue a career in acting. "I think I moved there in September 1999 and I was with Warner Brothers by January 2000," he said. Freakier Friday sees Lohan and Curtis return to their roles as mother and daughter, 22 years after the first film was released. ‌ The 2003 film saw Tess Coleman (Curtis) and musician Anna (Lohan) trade places, after reading fortune cookies at a Chinese restaurant. The story picks up with Lohan's character, Anna, now a mother to a teenage daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepmother. In the sequel, Anna's daughter Harper, played by Julia Butters and her soon-to-be stepdaughter Lily Davies, portrayed by Sophia Hammons, join Anna and her mother Tess in a wild, quadruple body swap. ‌ Reflecting on returning for the sequel, Murray said they had to work out how his character would realistically fit into the updated story. "It's a house of cards, you move one piece and the whole thing kind of crashes down with four people switching bodies. So we had to be really careful and deliberate with the choices we made," he said. "I went straight into analytics mode. We had to flesh out who Jake has been over the last 22 years. What's he been up to? Where's he gone? What's the funniest choice here? And that's where we went. Then it just became exciting from there." ‌ Murray added: "My joking sales pitch for this film has been, this movie will make you live longer as it reduces cortisol levels. "If this is the type of content I do for the rest of my life as an actor I'm done, I'm happy, I'm in." The 2003 film was based on the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers, which was previously turned into a 1976 movie starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris. Article continues below Freakier Friday opens in UK cinemas on Friday, August 8.
