Tote-ally political: Bansuri Swaraj's 'National Herald ki Loot' bag targets Gandhis
BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj turned heads at the Parliament Annexe building on Monday when she walked in for a Joint Parliamentary Committee meeting on 'One Nation, One Election' carrying a tote bag with the words "National Herald Ki Loot" emblazoned on it. The bag, an unmistakable jibe at the Gandhi family, is the latest in a series of handbag statements in Parliament - this time from the BJP in response to Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's recent outings with politically loaded tote bags.advertisementSpeaking to reporters, Swaraj said, "This is the first time that corruption has taken place in the fourth pillar of democracy-media. The charge sheet filed by the ED highlights the old working style and ideology of the Congress party. In the guise of service, they make public institutions a tool to increase their personal property."Her remarks come as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently filed a chargesheet against senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in connection with the National Herald case.
The case, which formally began in 2021, stems from a complaint filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in 2014. It alleges that the Gandhis and other Congress leaders orchestrated a fraudulent takeover of Associated Journals Ltd. (AJL) - the publisher of the National Herald newspaper - through the company Young Indian Ltd. (YIL), for a nominal sum of Rs 50 lakh. The properties involved in the case are estimated to be worth over Rs 2,000 crore.advertisementSwaraj's bag stunt appears to be a direct counter to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's recent bag messaging. In December, Vadra drew attention by carrying a tote with the word "Palestine" on it, prompting criticism from BJP leaders who accused her of communal posturing. Unfazed by the backlash, Vadra defended her choice, calling the attacks patriarchal and asserting her right to wear what she wants."The Gandhi family has always been carrying the bag of appeasement. The appeasement bag is the reason behind their rout in elections," BJP leader Sambit Patra had said.A day later, she upped the ante by appearing with a bag that read "Stand with Bangladeshi Hindus and Christians", in response to the BJP's criticism that she had ignored atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh. Earlier this year, BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi had gifted Vadra a bag that read "1984" - a pointed reference to the anti-Sikh riots that followed the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.Must Watch

Proud of how MPs advocated India's voice, says PM Modi
NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday commended the seven multi-party delegations for effectively representing India's stance in global capitals following Operation Sindoor , a decisive strike against terrorist hubs in Pakistan and PoK. "Met members of various delegations who represented India in different countries and elaborated on India's commitment to peace and the need to eradicate the menace of terrorism. We're all proud of the manner in which they put forward India's voice," PM said on X. Over 50 representatives from the delegations, who visited 33 foreign capitals and the EU, called on Modi to share their experiences. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said the PM was "very pleasant" to the delegation members, seeing it as an opportunity to thank them. "He walked around the lawn to different tables, talking to different groups of people... It was a good, lively, informal meeting," Tharoor said, adding that MPs shared insights and suggested such visits be made a regular practice, which the PM seemed to support. The delegations - comprising current and former MPs and ex-diplomats - conveyed India's firm stand against Pakistan-linked terrorism and its commitment to global peace. EAM S Jaishankar had earlier praised the delegations for highlighting India's position.

Where is Kalyan's ‘BKC' and other infra, ask residents after Mumbra train deaths
Thane: A day after the train-fall incident near Mumbra killed four passengers and injured nine, passengers living in Kalyan-Dombivli and beyond are demanding that the govt implement the growth centre that the MMRDA had planned in 10 villages of Kalyan, similar to Mumbai's BKC. Such a centre would mean that people would not have to travel to Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane for jobs, resulting in a reduction in local train passengers. Some passengers believe that the govt should prioritise the ongoing infrastructure projects connecting Kalyan-Dombivli to Thane, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, which would also reduce the number of people travelling by train. A large number of people from Kalyan-Dombivli work in IT companies in Navi Mumbai. Most of them used to travel in buses, but due to the Metro Line 12 (Kalyan-Taloja metro work), this journey takes two hours instead of 40 minutes. As a result, they now travel by train, first going to Thane from Kalyan-Dombivli and then to Navi Mumbai, adding to the peak-hour crowd. Although MMRDA is working fast on this Metro Line 12, the work on Metro 5 connecting Kalyan to Thane has not yet started between Kalyan and Bhiwandi. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Capital Gains Exemptions for Seniors SmartAsset Learn More Undo The delay in work on the Mumbai-Nashik highway, particularly from Thane to Kalyan-Bhiwandi Phata, has also led many people to prefer trains instead of private cars, increasing the crowd in trains. In 2015, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis decided to develop 10 villages of Kalyan as a growth centre on the lines of BKC, stating that people from these cities would not have to travel to Mumbai and Thane for jobs. After this, MMRDA reserved 1,089 hectares of land in these 10 villages for the growth centre. In 2018, the govt sanctioned Rs 1,000 crore for it, but no work has started yet. Rupesh Raut, a resident of Dombivli who works in an IT company in Vikhroli, said, "The govt should prioritise the work of building a growth centre in Kalyan so that the lives of people like us, who risk our lives and travel by local train every day, will be saved. If we get jobs near us, it will reduce the crowd in the train." Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Dipesh Mhatre from Dombivli said that today Kalyan-Dombivli, Ambernath and Badlapur, where most people are employed in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai, have become residential hubs where lakhs of people live. Railway activist Lata Argade said the govt now needs to take a decision on changing the working hours of govt and private sector offices in Mumbai. Argade said that the railway are positive about this demand, and the govt had accepted this demand earlier, but no decision has been taken on it.

BJP leaders in Jharkhand, Bihar laud Modi govt.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Smriti Irani in Jharkhand and Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal in Bihar listed out the achievements to commemorate the 11 years of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. Addressing a press conference at the BJP office in Patna, Mr. Meghwal said the scale and speed of the schemes have changed under the Prime Minister's leadership. He cites an example that earlier also there was a plan to build houses but the amount was less and it took more time. 'But when the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was launched by the Modi government, the amount increased, the scale increased and the time of its completion also decreased,' Mr. Meghwal said in the presence of Bihar BJP president Dilip Kumar Jaiswal. In Ranchi, a professional meet was organised by the BJP's Ranchi Rural District wing. Speaking as the chief guest, Ms. Irani said, 'The BJP government under the leadership of Modiji is not hungry for power but to serve the poor farmers and women in villages.' The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha termed the celebration a 'mockery of people's pain and unanswered questions'. Party spokesperson Tanuj Khatri said the ground reality here does not reflect the grand celebrations. 'It echoes with the cries of the people, their struggles,' he said.
