Brazilian business delegation visits Jordan to explore investment prospects

Ammon01-06-2025
Ammon News - A Brazilian business delegation starts a visit to Jordan Sunday for talks with official and private entities to explore investment opportunities in the Kingdom across various economic sectors.
The five-day visit is organized by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the Jordan Chamber of Commerce and the Jordanian Embassy in Sao Paulo.
The delegation is headed by the Chamber's President, William Adib Dib Jr., and comprises business owners and executives from various economic sectors, as well as representatives from the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and the Investment Promotion Agency of the State of Sao Paulo.
The visit includes a Jordanian-Brazilian business forum, bilateral meetings between companies, and meetings at the Ministries of Agriculture, Industry, Trade and Supply, and Investment, as well as the Customs Department, in addition to tours to promote tourist attractions.
The visit is a key step in developing economic relations with Brazil and it opens new horizons for increasing trade exchange between the two countries, commented Jordan Chamber of Commerce President, Senator Khalil Haj Tawfiq.
It will allow the delegation to explore investment opportunities and the business environment, and build strategic partnerships, he said, adding that the delegation's choice showed a special investor interest in the Kingdom.
He pointed out that Brazil is one of the key economies in South America with strong and advanced industries, particularly in the food sector, which will help boost trade ties with Jordanian firms.
The volume of trade between Jordan and Brazil was at JD511 million dinars last year, of which JD60 million in Jordanian exports, almost entirely chemicals and related products, followed by clothing and textiles, dates and other food items. Petra

GPT-5 is supposed to be nicer now

Ammon News - OpenAI announced late Friday that it's updating its latest model to be 'warmer and friendlier.' The company recently launched the much-anticipated GPT-5 in a process that CEO Sam Altman admitted was 'a little more bumpy than we'd hoped for,' with some users complaining that they preferred the previous model, GPT-4o. OpenAI is trying to address some of those complaints with this update, with changes that it says are 'subtle' but will make GPT-5 'more approachable now.' 'You'll notice small, genuine touches like 'Good question' or 'Great start,' not flattery,' the company wrote in a social media post. 'Internal tests show no rise in sycophancy compared to the previous GPT-5 personality.' At a dinner this week with journalists, OpenAI executives tried to focus on the company's plans beyond GPT-5, but as Max Zeff reports, the rocky launch was the elephant in the room. As far as model friendliness goes, VP Nick Turley said that the GPT-5 was 'just very to the point,' but that the new update would — as now announced — make it feel warmer. TechCrunch

Gold rebounds from two-week low; Trump-Zelenskiy meeting in focus

Oil prices steady as Russia supply concerns ease after Trump-Putin meet

Ammon News - Oil prices were largely unchanged on Monday after a drop in early trade, as the United States exerted no further pressure on Russia to end the Ukraine war through measures to disrupt its oil exports following a meeting of the leaders of both nations. Brent crude futures dropped 6 cents, or 0.09%, to $65.79 a barrel by 0342 GMT while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was at $62.82 a barrel, up 2 cents, or 0.03%. U.S. President Donald Trump met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday and emerged more aligned with Moscow on seeking a peace deal instead of a ceasefire first. Trump will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and European leaders on Monday to strike a quick peace deal to end Europe's deadliest war in 80 years. On Friday, Trump said he did not immediately need to consider retaliatory tariffs on countries such as China for buying Russian oil but might have to "in two or three weeks", cooling concerns about a disruption in Russian supply.
