Previewing the 2025 season for Texas A&M DL Albert Regis with his player profile

USA Today06-07-2025
As we gear up for the 2025 football season, Aggies Wire is breaking down every player on the Texas A&M roster. Throughout the preseason, each profile will highlight a player's background, their recruiting rankings upon graduating from high school, and their projected role under head coach Mike Elko.
The defensive line is somewhat of a question mark after losing three starters to the NFL, with Cashius Howell as the only proven pass rusher returning. The interior line poses another challenge, but veteran Albert Regis is expected to bring intensity and leadership to a young group.
Regis had his most productive season yet in 2024, recording 36 tackles, three tackles for loss, and half a sack. His role will be to clog running lanes and increase his pressure on the quarterback. He showed promise last season by batting down seven passes and forcing the QB out of the pocket multiple times. Regis has NFL-level talent, and the Aggies will need every bit of it on the field this year.
Preseason Player Profile
Recruiting Rankings (Class of 2021)
The former three-star prospect brought intriguing traits that made him a valuable asset on both sides of the ball. He held offers from several programs eager to develop his raw intangibles—traits like relentless effort and a standout attitude you simply can't teach. Regis was named 21-6A Sophomore of the Year and earned First-Team All-District honors as a tight end during his junior year.
Depth Chart Outlook
Albert Regis played a key role along the defensive front in 2024 and is projected to start alongside DJ Hicks, forming an athletic 1-2 punch on the interior.

Cornerback Corey Ballentine returns to Packers after getting released by Colts

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Cornerback Corey Ballentine has returned to the Green Bay Packers three days after the Indianapolis Colts released him. The Packers announced Monday they had signed Ballentine, who had played for them from 2022-24. They made room for him by releasing cornerback Gregory Junior. Ballentine played 37 regular-season games and three playoff games for the Packers over the past three seasons. He made seven starts during that stretch. The Colts signed Ballentine in March but released him Friday when they signed cornerback Chris Lammons. Ballentine, 29, played 15 games last season while contributing primarily on special teams. He started six games in 2023 and had 43 tackles and seven passes defensed, both career highs. He also has played for the New York Giants (2019-20), New York Jets (2020) and Detroit Lions (2021). Junior, 26, played with the Jacksonville Jaguars for one game in 2022 and nine in 2023. ___ AP NFL:

'Super busy' Saquon Barkley declines to join Trump's sports council

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley revealed he declined an invitation to join President Donald Trump's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. Barkley explained his decision after the Eagles' Monday practice. "A couple months ago, it was brought to my team about the council. So I'm not really too familiar with it," Barkley told reporters at the NovaCare facility, per ESPN. "I felt like I am going to be super busy, so me and my family thought it would probably be of best interest to not accept that." "I was definitely a little shocked when my name was mentioned," he added. "I'm assuming it's something great, so I appreciate it but was a little shocked when my name was mentioned." Trump signed an executive order to create the President's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition on July 31, 2025. Its creation was a reestablishment of the President's Council on Youth Fitness, which was initially created by former President Dwight Eisenhower in 1956. The White House stated the goal of the new council is "to develop bold and innovative fitness goals for young Americans with the aim of fostering a new generation of healthy, active citizens." EXCLUSIVE: Jerry Jones unplugged. He talks Micah Parsons contract The executive order allows the council to have up to 30 participants. It will be chaired by LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau. Barkley was named a member of the council by Trump in a news conference announcing its creation; current NFL players Nick Bosa, Tua Tagovailoa and Harrison Butker were also named part of the council along with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor. Barkley golfed with Trump ahead of the Eagles' April White House visit, celebrating their Super Bowl 59 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Barkley also revealed he golfed with former President Barack Obama in October at Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania. Eagles owner Jeff Lurie was also in attendance for the round, as was quarterback Jalen Hurts, though he did not participate in the round. BetMGM Bonus Code WIREBG150: Score $150 in Bonus Bets for NFL Lines, MLB Odds & More

The games may not count in the standings, but this week's NFL preseason game definitely matter. How does new Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy look? Are this year's first-round draft picks as good as their billing? Which online sportsbooks have the most intriguing welcome offers? We can answer the last one: The BetMGM bonus code WIREBG150 gives you $150 in bonus bets when you win your $10 first bet. If you're a new customer in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania or West Virginia, then you collect three $50 bonus bets (along with your first-bet profit) when your $10 first bet wins. If you're a new bettor playing in any other state where BetMGM operates, then you get to capitalize on the BetMGM bonus code SBWIRE that guarantees you a protected first bet up to $1,500. There are no bigger (and more protected) sportsbook promos than this. If you think NFL exhibitions aren't important and have an effect on the regular season, just take a look at the Vikings. Last year, McCarthy tore the meniscus in his knee in his exhibition debut. Not only did that knock him out for the year, it also elevated Sam Darnold to the top spot and the veteran led the Vikings to a 14-3 record. Now Darnold is a Seattle Seahawk because the Vikings expect McCarthy to live up to last year's first-round pick. But for Vikings fans' sakes — and for fans of every other team who have questions they want answered ASAP — this week's games have relevance. They're also worth wagering on. Check the BetMGM Sportsbook app — one of the nation's elite sports betting apps — to get the latest odds on every game. Meanwhile, it takes just two minutes to create your BetMGM account. Tap any BET NOW button on your screen, answer a few simple questions and then type in either the BetMGM bonus code WIREBG150 or the BetMGM bonus code SBWIRE to activate your welcome offer. BetMGM Bonus Code Promos: Get $150 in Bonus Bets or $1500 First-Bet Offer With MLB's trade deadline in the rearview mirror, it's pretty much time to start the sprint to the postseason. Tonight's full MLB schedule includes a bunch of relevant games, but the best pitching matchup features the New York Yankees' Max Fried going against Texas' Nathan Eovaldi. While Fried has been great from Day 1 this season, Eovaldi quietly has fashioned a 1.49 ERA in 18 starts. You'll find dozens of ways to play on Yankees-Rangers and every other MLB game on the BetMGM app and website. Everywhere you look, there are massive events happening later this week. In addition to NFL exhibition games starting Thursday, the PGA Tour's $100 million FedExCup playoffs begin Thursday with the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis. NASCAR is only a few weeks away from the start of the Cup Series playoffs, so tempers (and temperatures) will be high for Sunday's race at Watkins Glen. Basically, everything except hockey is happening right now. To get started with one of the best sportsbook promos out there, take two minutes to launch your account now. Remember, when you're asked whether you have a bonus code, type the BetMGM bonus code WIREBG150 if you're playing in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania or West Virginia to claim $150 in bonus bets for winning a $10 first bet. If you're playing anywhere else, you'll cite the BetMGM bonus code SBWIRE to clinch one protected first bet up to $1,500. How to Sign Up for the BetMGM Bonus Code Offer If you're 21 or older (in most states) and in one of the more than 20 states where BetMGM operates, you can sign up for a new account with a BetMGM bonus code in a matter of minutes. Here's how: If you're signed up for the $1,500 BetMGM bonus code SBWIRE, place your first bet on any of today's matchups (or any other set of odds), and if it settles as a loss, you'll get bonus bets back. For wagers of $50 and up, the refund comes as five equal bonus bets, while smaller wagers get a single matching credit. With the BetMGM bonus code WIREBG150, you can wager on any set of odds, and if it comes back as a win, you get your winnings plus three $50 bet credits. After signing up for your BetMGM bonus code offer, place your qualifying bet within seven days. You'll have a seven-day window from when bonus bets are deposited to use them or they will expire.
