R&B singer Chris Brown has arrived in court over an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub. Last month the 36 year-old US musician pleaded not guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to Abraham Diaw at the Tape venue, a private members' club in Hanover Square, Mayfair, on February 19 2023.
On Friday, Brown makes another appearance at London's Southwark Crown for a plea hearing amid preparations for his trial which is set for October. His co-defendant, US national Omololu Akinlolu, 39, has also pleaded not guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.
Both men are further charged with assaulting Mr Diaw occasioning him actual bodily harm, with Brown also facing one count of having an offensive weapon, a bottle, in a public place. The two-time Grammy award winner, which hits including Run It! and Go Crazy, has managed to press on with his scheduled international tour despite his legal battle.

He is on conditional bail and performed in Cardiff in June as part of a stadium tour which was billed as a celebration of the past 20 years of his career. He had to pay a £5 million security fee to the court as part of the bail agreement, which is a financial guarantee to ensure a defendant returns to court and may be forfeited if they breach bail conditions.
At his last court appearance, his defence counsel Sallie Bennett-Jenkins KC told the hearing it had been difficult to discuss matters with her client while he is working.

Prosecutor Kirsten Murphy said Howells had asked her to go to a shop and buy him e-liquid for his vape. When she refused he began throwing items around the room. "He punched a hole in the living room wall and pushed her to the chest, causing her to stumble back. "He called her useless. She went upstairs and he followed her, kicking her belongings downstairs." The victim managed to message a family member on Snapchat, asking them to come over, but out of fear that Howells would see it she sent a follow-up message telling them not to worry. She was left with bruising and red marks on her neck. In her victim personal statement she said she had been struggling to sleep since the attack as she "constantly" replayed the incident, adding: "I am constantly looking over my shoulder when I go anywhere out of fear I will bump into Nathan." Howells, of Tremgarth in Wildmill, pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation, assault and criminal damage. His barrister Jac Brown said he had no previous convictions and that on the morning of the offences he had learned of his aunt's death. "He became deliberately argumentative with the complainant and he recognises he simply lost it with her," said Mr Brown. The probation service assessed Howells as posing a medium risk of harm to the victim. Mr Brown argued this could be managed with a restraining order. "Prior to these offences he was unemployed and a frequent smoker of cannabis, which he used to cope with his unemployment," said Mr Brown. "He has realised cannabis will not help him and has abstained for several months now, while enjoying stability as a permanent contractor in a warehouse." Passing sentence, Judge Paul Hobson told Howells: "People who engage in behaviour of this kind, very often young men, should expect to be severely punished. An act of strangulation is inherently dangerous and terrifying for its victim. You only have to think what it would be like to be strangled and have difficulty breathing to realise why that is so." But the judge also took into account Howells' young age, the absence of previous convictions, and evidence that he had shown "some remorse". He imposed 12 months in a young offender institute suspended for two years. As it became clear Howells would be spared jail, there were gasps and tears of happiness from two women in the public gallery. The defendant himself showed no emotion. Howells was handed a 25-day rehabilitation activity requirement and 180 hours of unpaid work. He must pay £600 in compensation and £100 in prosecution costs. And she is busier than expected, with eight confirmed projects, two of which she's also producing. For followers of her hyperpop auto-tune gospel, the Grammy winner's cinematic side might not come as a surprise. Even Letterboxd-addicted cinephiles worship her on-brand, cheeky one-line reviews (her username is @itscharlibb in case you were wondering). Also contributing to film soundtracks like The Fault in Our Stars, Barbie, and Bottoms, the London raver even bid adieu to Brat Summer at this year's Coachella by giving shoutouts to some top-tier filmmakers, declaring this year the summer of Darren Aronofsky, David Cronenberg, Celine Song, Paul Thomas Anderson, and many others. Then there was the time when even The Great Gatsby 's Baz Luhrmann referenced 'party4u' to evoke Gatsby's longing for his beloved Daisy. Another still features her in a blue velvety dress. 100 Nights of Hero is written and directed by Julia Jackman and is based on the graphic novel of the same name, which in itself is a queer-coded spin of One Thousand and One Nights (aka The Arabian Nights). The folklore elements, mediaeval costumes, and the talented cast mean that Charli, the movie star, is in great company. Sacrifice Next on her radar is Sacrifice, an upcoming action comedy by Romain Gavras, who previously directed the Netflix political thriller Athena. Gavras is shifting from his native French to English with a cast fronted by Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Evans, Salma Hayek, Ambika Mod, and many more. Sacrifice follows a chaotic celeb charity event that is interrupted by a radical activist group. Charli joins the project in an undisclosed role, but the zany premise is worthy enough of drawing the 'Von Dutch' hitmaker. Sacrifice will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this September. Eruptcja The Toronto International Film Festival is a good launchpad for Charli's film career as much like Sacrifice, Eruptcja will also premiere here. This one's a more solemn effort with a wholesome romance and mellowed-down colours. Charli stars in this lesbian romance as a British tourist who falls for a Polish florist (Lena Góra). What makes Eruptcja all the more exciting is that it also has Charli sharing screenwriting duties with director Pete Ohs and co-star Jeremy O. Harris. Faces of Death Euphoria alumna Barbie Ferreira and Stranger Things star Dacre Montgomery star in Faces of Death, a remake of the 1978 pseudo-documentary that aims to recreate the gnarly murders and rituals of the original. Sounds campy enough for Charli, who has a supporting bit in this. And with the premise also taking on online misinformation and grainy found footage, Faces of Death is again fitting for the popstar's Y2K aesthetics. I Want Your Sex Greg Arraki, the trailblazing '90s filmmaker behind gritty, sex-fuelled teen dramas like Mysterious Skin and Totally F***ed Up, is a perfect match for Charli XCX's bratty persona. This time around, Arraki directs an erotic thriller with Olivia Wilde as a provocative artist and Licorice Pizza breakout Cooper Hoffman as her sexual muse. Charli joins the supporting cast with Daveed Diggs, Johnny Knoxville, and even veteran stand-up comic Margaret Cho. The Gallerist Another art thriller in Charli XCX's emerging filmography, Cathy Yan's The Gallerist has Natalie Portman playing the titular gallerist who plots to sell a corpse at a Miami Art Fair. The Gallerist is bound to ruffle some Gen-Z feathers as this twisted thriller pairs Charli alongside Wednesday star Jenna Ortega. No dearth of acting talent here, with This is Us 's Sterling K Brown, Oscar-winner Da'vine Joy Randolph, and Ortega's Wednesday co-star Catherine Zeta-Jones joining in. The Moment Out of all of Charli XCX's upcoming films, this A24 mockumentary seems to be the most meta and hype-worthy. Firstly, Charli gets top billing and is no longer relegated to supporting parts here. And then, she gets to play a pop star gearing up for her first headlining tour. Expect behind-the-scenes shenanigans à la Spinal Tap and social commentary that can blur the lines between Charli's larger-than-life persona and her true self. Produced by Charli's Studio's 365 banner, The Moment also stars Alexander Skarsgård, Rosanna Arquette, and Jamie Demetriou. Untitled Takashi Miike project Charli's second credit as a producer is Japanese auteur Takashi Miike's next project. The prolific director is mostly known in the west for his twisted 1999 thriller Audition and blood-soaked cult hits like Ichi the Killer and Thirteen Assassins. Plot details are under wraps, but Charli is expected to have a crucial role. A collaboration between Charli and Miike might seem unexpected at first, but it makes perfect sense given both artists' flair for stylish multi-genre projects. So…when are all the Charli XCX films releasing? Only three of the films have been completed yet, with 100 Nights of Hero closing Venice and Sacrifice and Eruptcja premiering at TIFF. As is the case with most festival titles, these films are likely to open in cinemas later this year or next. The others are still in production and will most likely eye a 2026 or 2027 release.

King - with a star from The Masked Star taking part. He told The U.S. Sun, "It's about Mr King's entire life story - the biopic will be shot to depict from the beginning to the end of his life." Although Benford declined to reveal who is starring, he did reveal the names of two prominent singers whose music will feature. One such star is Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Aloe Blacc, who has appeared in movies such as Fast & Furious. He also fooled viewers when disguised as "Mushroom" while singing Stevie Wonder's I Wish in season 4 of The Masked Singer. Another singer whose music will feature in the film is Quavo, one-third of the now-separated rap duo Migos. Quavo - who used to be a close pal of fellow rapper Chris Brown - performed at hip-hop concert Rolling Loud festival in Los Angeles in March. Having music from such current major singers means the biopic will also intrigue a younger audience, "and make sure it is in touch with today's music," Benford said. "I want to show what his life story is and how he has impacted on so many artists - and others - across the world, with his music. King: more on the legendary blues king For most of his career spanning nearly 70 years, Riley B. King was hailed as the undisputed king of the blues, thanks to his scorching guitar licks and heartfelt vocals - sung with a velvety voice. Born Riley B. King on Sept. 16, 1925, on a tenant farm near Itta Bena, Mississippi, King was raised by his grandmother after his parents separated and his mother died. A preacher uncle taught him to play, and he honed his technique in abject poverty in the Mississippi Delta, the birthplace of the blues. The legend became a mentor to scores of guitarists, including Eric Clapton, Otis Rush, Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, John Mayall and Keith Richards. King recorded more than 50 albums and toured the world, often performing 250 or more concerts a year. He continued to perform well into his 80s, even though the 15-time Grammy winner had diabetes. King played a Gibson guitar that he affectionately called Lucille. His style included beautifully crafted single-string runs punctuated by loud chords, subtle vibratos and bent notes. The result could bring chills to an audience, no more so than when King used it to full effect on his signature song, The Thrill is Gone. He would make his guitar shout and cry in anguish as he told the tale of forsaken love, then end with a guttural shouting of the final lines: 'Now that it's all over, all I can do is wish you well.' King died at age 89 in May 2015 at his home in Las Vegas. King, who got his start in radio with a gospel quartet in Mississippi before moving to Memphis, Tennessee, died in 2015 at home in Vegas. Benford said that, at the time of his passing, he had also been living in Vegas, as "my godfather lived here - he passed around the same time as B.B. King." Because of his huge connections within the entertainment industry, he was approached by King's family to become chairman of the B.B. King Estate, where he plays a key role in preserving and expanding the legacy of the blues icon. Benford explained, "I wasn't the chair of the estate at that time, but I was approached by the family to become its head - I was producing Richie Sambora, and met the grandson of B.B. King and one thing led to the other." U2 TRIBUTE He has since overseen initiatives to honor King's life and huge contributions to music. Just last year, U2 paid tribute to the legend during their Las Vegas residency at The Sphere. Although he didn't reveal the release date of the upcoming biopic, Benford said, "It's in pre-production right now. "It'll be released into cinemas worldwide - there will be an announcement on the release in 2026." He said the pre-production phase includes working alongside producer Mark Canton, known for films such as 300, Immortals, and the Power television series. Benford is co-chairman and CEO of Benford & Canton Studios, a media production company he co-founded with Canton. Last year he co-produced several tracks on Chris Brown's album 11.11, which received a Grammy nomination and won R&B Album of the Year at the 2025 Grammy Awards. RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE Benford showed The U.S. Sun an impressive collection of memorabilia including a very rare glimpse of the original Rumble in the Jungle guitar used by B.B. King himself.
