Aldi's brutal M&S takedown as it 'launches' strawberry sandwich equivalent
When M&S think they are one step ahead - Aldi always has a secret marketing ploy up their sleeves.
In the latest supermarket wars, Aldi has taken a brutal, but humorous, swipe at M&S for the viral strawberry sandwich in the best way possible. Aldi is known for it's tongue-in-cheek social media jibes, particularly directed at Marks and Spencer's after the Colin and Cuthbert caterpillar cake wars.
Now they have jumped on the sandwich bandwagon after M&S made headlines when it announced an unusual strawberry sandwich - sending social media into a frenzy. Shoppers were divided over the unusual fruit filling, complete with cream, wedged between two slices of thick sweetened bread.
So Aldi did what Aldi does best and mocked up their own 'viral' sandwich, and it's a dupe of M&S's luxury offering. The Aldi version is made up of carrots and creme on a soft sweetened bread. To add a further punch to M&S, Aldi's caption was mocking the famous M&S strapline, as the Facebook post said: "This is not just any sando... this is a Carrot and Creme Sando. 500K likes and we'll make it happen."
M&S are known for calling their sandwiches 'sando's' when they launched their Chicken Katsu Sando last year, and by joining in on the viral trend, shoppers have loved Aldi's ploy at taking a swipe at M&S. One fan commented on the post: "Can always count on Aldi to have a sense of humour," to which Aldi replied: "Love a good bit of tomfoolery."
While another eager Aldi fan chimed: "I've been waiting for aldi response on this," and a third penned: "Guaranteed to make you see in the dark!" As Aldi replied: "100% night vision or your money back."
Meanwhile a fourth said: "Easy now, wouldn't want any beef in that sandwich," to which Aldi boldly responded: "Oh, we've always got beef!"
It comes after Aldi changed it's name at one of their Manchester stores ahead of the Oasis reunion gig. It has paid tribute by having changed the name of its Bury New Road store in Prestwich. The store, which is just a few miles from Heaton Park, has been renamed 'Aldeh'.
The retailer has said that the temporary rebrand embraces the Mancunian pronunciation of its name. It described the decision to rename the store as being in homage to the Gallagher brothers and Manchester's musical heritage.
Aldi has revealed that the sign will be on display at the store throughout Oasis' much-awaited comeback stint in the city. It's teased that fans of the band have already queued outside the store to take photos of the new tribute.

Robbie Williams puts Noel Gallagher feud aside as he sends message to Oasis
The Gallagher brothers are sending the UK back to the 90s ahead of their reunion tour as pop legends Robbie Williams and the Spice girls come out to support the reunion tour Oasis fever is spreading around the UK once again as the hype builds before the Gallagher brothers finally take to the stage together later today. Having not graced the same stage in more than 15 years, the 75,000 fans lucky enough to get a ticket for Cardiff's Principality Stadium will be expecting big things – especially those who forked out a hefty sum through a resale who were hit with dynamic pricing hikes. Although Liam and Noel are probably the last musicians you'd thought would get nervous, that hasn't stopped some of the biggest artists of the prime Britpop era from reaching out to the band wishing them luck on the worldwide tour. Two icons leading the floods of celeb support are Robbie Williams and The Spice Girls. The former Take That star has revealed a fake blue plaque style graphic on Berwick Street in London's Soho, the setting for the band's iconic (What's The Story) Morning Glory? album cover. Posting to his Instagram earlier today, the plaque says: " Robbie Williams - heard it, saw it, loved it, lived it, wanted it and snorted it ... That's The Story." Robbie posted the image alongside a snap of two blurred out faces stood down the famous street to recreate the iconic album cover – this time the duo were in black and red tracksuits. As he shared the snaps, Robbie wished the brothers well as he wrote in the caption "GOOD LUCK TONIGHT LADS @oasis". Although today's stunt wasn't the first time the singer has spoken about the brother's tour. In an interview last year with NME, Robbie added: 'The soap opera alone will either be exciting and or ghoulish to watch. As for the shows? They're gonna be incredible, off-the-scale special.' The Rock DJ singer was seemingly inspired to bury the hatchet like the Gallagher brothers after his long-running feud with Noel after a comment where he referred to Robbie as "the fat dancer from Take That', which led to the pop star challenging Liam to a scrap during the Brits. Britpop fever seems to be coming back for a second round, with Williams' upcoming album, ' Britpop ' set to pay homage to the golden era of British music. But it's not just Robbie who's wishing the brothers luck ahead of tonight's gig with girl group superstars the Spice Girls also posting to Instagram. Reposting the classic 1997 Brit awards moment where Mel C shouted on stage "I just wanna say, Liam, come and have a go if you think you're hard enough!" – writing on top of the clip, the band's official Instagram account teased: "Still waiting @liamgallagher. Good luck with the tour boys." The boys are in for a jam-packed six months, with the tour taking them everywhere from Mexico City to Tokyo, although perhaps their most anticipated gig will be their third date as they return to Manchester in front of a sell-out crowd at Heaton Park.

Oasis fans given 'be very careful' warning as they gather ahead of first reunion show
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Ahead of Oasis's eagerly awaited reunion gig on Friday (July 4), fans have been urged to "be very careful". Music enthusiasts are flocking to Cardiff in their thousands as the Gallagher brothers, Liam and Noel, prepare to share the stage for the first time in 16 years. The band's much-anticipated world tour, spanning 41 dates, commences with performances at the Principality Stadium this weekend. Following this, they'll be heading to Manchester, London, Edinburgh, and Dublin for the UK and Ireland leg, before jetting off to international destinations including Canada, Los Angeles, Mexico, and Japan. The Gallagher brothers' last joint performance was back in 2009, and tickets for their latest tour sold out within hours of being announced last year, reflecting fans' eagerness to witness the reunion, reports Wales Online. Ahead of the reunion tour starting tonight, ITV Lorraine star Claer Barrett issued a warning to viewers about the rise in ticket scams. "There are last-minute ticket deals that are not deals, they're just scams," said host Ranvir Singh on Friday's show. Claer replied: "The message to get across is that social media and ticket sales are not a good look. There's lots of scams going on, the banks are all warning people to be wary of bot accounts on social media that don't have many followers but are following lots of people and offering tickets." (Image: ITV) She concluded: "The key message here is stick to the official ticket resale site. Be very careful." Good Morning Britain's Nick Dixon then appeared live from the Principality Stadium, where he shared an update on the arriving fans. "Some of the more passionate fans with tickets have been queuing up at different sections of the stadium since yesterday," he revealed. "Of course, they want to get in there as soon as the doors open at five o'clock and rush right to the stage." Oasis will be supported by indie rock band Cast and The Verve's Richard Ashcroft in Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin. The tour is sold out, but the band has said that some additional tickets could be released. In an Instagram post last week (June 25), the band advised members of Oasismynet to "keep an eye" on their inbox. The final releases would come "over the coming days" once production was "fine tuned", they said. Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox Look for places near you
