OIC Participates in ICYF International Youth Volunteers Camp in Türkiye

The OIC General Secretariat participates in the International Youth Volunteers Camp organized by the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF) in Antalya (Republic of Türkiye) from 29 April to 3 May 2025.
At the opening ceremony, the representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Türkiye, including the local representative of the Youth and Sports Ministry in Antalya and the Representatives from ICYF and its partners, attended the event.
In his speech on behalf of the OIC General Secretariat, Dr. Boubakari Maiga, Head of the Youth and Sports Department, indicated that Volunteer work has recently emerged as a societal message aimed at enhancing participation in building human capacities and individual skills, achieving social solidarity, and expressing the vitality of society, as well as the willingness of its members to commit themselves to dedication and sacrifice.
He added that OIC, through its Program of Action - 2025, as well as the relevant resolutions adopted by the CFM and the Islamic Conference of Youth and Sports ministers, attaches great importance to the volunteer work and the empowerment and capacity building of youth.
Dr. Boubakari Maiga conveyed the OIC General Secretariat's deep appreciation to the Republic of Türkiye for its efforts to support the OIC General Secretariat and ICYF's activities and programs in this regard.
It's worth noting that the objectives of this camp include providing the participants with psychosocial support skills, post-disaster preparedness training, strengthening community service awareness, developing teamwork and leadership skills, and strengthening social ties in order to allow young people to support each other and become stronger together.

Israel approves biggest expansion of West Bank settlements in decades
Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, as well as in East Jerusalem and the occupied Golan Heights, are considered illegal under international law. For months, Israel's military has carried out a massive operation in the West Bank, deploying tanks to the territory for the first time in decades and displacing tens of thousands of Palestinians. In February, Katz ordered the military 'to prepare for a prolonged presence' as the military evacuated Palestinian refugee camps. Within the last several weeks, Israeli forces have carried out multiple waves of raids and arrests across the West Bank. He added the new settlements are 'illegal under international law, further imperil the two-state solution, and do not protect Israel.' The decision this week to expand settlements sparked international criticism. The United Kingdom's minister for the Middle East and North Africa, Hamish Falconer, called the move a 'deliberate obstacle to Palestinian statehood.' Jordan's foreign ministry also lambasted the move, saying in a statement that it 'represents a deliberate disregard for ongoing international calls to halt settlement activity and violations in the occupied Palestinian territories.' 'All Israeli actions and decisions in the West Bank are illegal and illegitimate,' the statement added. Earlier this month, France joined the UK and Canada to threaten 'concrete actions,' including targeted sanctions against Israel, if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government did not allow far more aid into Gaza and cease settlement expansion in the West Bank. Peace Now blasted the government for making such a decision in the midst of a war. 'The government is making clear – again and without restraint – that it prefers deepening the occupation and advancing de facto annexation over pursuing peace,' the organization said. 'The Israeli government no longer pretends otherwise: the annexation of the Occupied Territories and expansion of settlements is its central goal.' The Oslo Accords, signed in 1993 between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), were designed to pave the way for the establishment of a Palestinian state and the realization of a two-state solution.

Austria Launches Major Green Hydrogen Project
Israa Farhan Austria is set to become a key player in Europe's green energy transition with the announcement of a major hydrogen initiative by OMV, the country's leading oil and gas group. The company has unveiled plans to construct one of the largest green hydrogen electrolysis plants in Europe, aiming for an annual production capacity of 23,000 tonnes. The facility will be located in Bruck an der Leitha, in Austria's Burgenland state, and will be powered by renewable wind energy with an installed capacity of 140 megawatts. The project marks a significant step in Austria's broader strategy to achieve climate neutrality and cut carbon emissions. OMV, which is partially owned by the Austrian state, is positioning this project as a cornerstone of its commitment to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. The company's CEO, Alfred Stern, described the green hydrogen strategy as a milestone in OMV's decarbonisation roadmap, emphasising the plant's pivotal role in transitioning from grey to green hydrogen. As Europe intensifies efforts to move away from fossil fuels, this large-scale investment signals Austria's determination to secure a leadership role in sustainable energy production.
