Missing OFW found dead in desert in Saudi Arabia
According to Jonathan Andal's report on "Saksi," Juljirri Aggong was reportedly the victim of a hit-and-run.
"Na-hit-and-run siya ng kotse. And that caused fatal injuries... 'Yung reported incident is June 11," said Overseas Workers Welfare Administration administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan.
She said the incident happened at 12:31 p.m. on the King Salman Eastbound Road at a non-designated pedestrian crossing.
Caunan said the vehicle had been identified, along with its license plate and driver.
The OWWA will try to get a copy of the CCTV footage of the incident. It also has a lawyer in Riyadh to help with the case.
"Hustisya lang po. 'Yan lang po yung panawagan namin. Hindi po ito pwedeng maging kwento lang na walang hustisya," said Mhaie Aggong, a cousin of the victim.
"Marami pa po tayong mga kababyaan doon. Pag hindi po ito inaksyunan lang sigurado may susunod pa," he added.
Mhaie said Aggong was a good person. He wanted to work in Saudi Arabia to help his family.
The victim hailed from Jolo, Sulu, and was the eldest among siblings.
He had been working as an office and facility cleaner in Riyadh for six months.
Aggong's family will have him buried in Riyadh, according to Muslim tradition.
The OWWA said it would pursue the case to get justice for the migrant worker. –NB, GMA Integrated News

Death of 2 navy personnel in Sarangani under probe
The Philippine Navy on Thursday said a thorough investigation is ongoing into the drowning of its two personnel in Maitum, Sarangani Province. 'A thorough investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,' the Philippine Navy said in a statement. The Philippine Navy mourned the loss of its two personnel who died during a recreational diving activity in Sarangani on Monday. 'We extend our heartfelt condolences to their families and assure them of our full support during this difficult time,' the Philippine Navy said. The military also vowed assistance to their families. 'We are providing full assistance to the bereaved families as part of our commitment to their welfare. Above all, we recognize and honor the service and dedication of our fallen sailors to the country and the Filipino people,' it added. According to the Philippine Navy, the recreational activity was authorized as the involved personnel were on official leave and wellness break. The Philippine Navy said it is reviewing and enhancing its protocols for both recreational and operational diving activities to prevent similar incidents in the future. The victims, aged 48 and 50, were conducting a recreational site diving survey 1.2 nautical miles from the shore. They went missing for more than an hour until they were found floating and unconscious in open water. The two were brought to a hospital but were declared dead upon arrival. Their colleagues believe the two divers reached a deep portion of the sea when they encountered difficulty breathing underwater. —VAL, GMA Integrated News

Pinoy arrested in California for sending payments to alleged ISIS terrorists
A 28-year-old Filipino greencard holder was arrested last week by United States authorities in California for allegedly transmitting funds to suspected Islamic State of Iraq and Syria terrorists (ISIS). The US Department of Justice identified the man as Mark Lorenzo Villanueva, who is charged with "attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization," an offense that carries sentence of 20 years in federal prison. "Supporting a terrorist group, whether at home or abroad, is a serious risk to our national security," said Acting United States Attorney Bill Essayli in a statement. Records from a money transfer firm showed Villanueva sent 12 payments totaling $1,615 during a five-month period to two intermediaries who accessed the money overseas, the US DOJ said. "We will aggressively hunt down and prosecute anyone who provides support or comfort to our enemies," Essayli said. ISIS, a designated foreign terrorist organization by the US, is responsible for deadly attacks in nearly 20 other countries, including Afghanistan, France, and the United Kingdom. It was formed in 2014 as an offshoot of Al-Qaeda and took control of large parts of Iraq and Syria. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Manila has yet to respond to queries on Villanueva's case. Patrick Grandy, acting Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI's Los Angeles Field Office, said Villanueva is alleged to have "financially supported and pledged his allegiance to a terror group that targets the United States and our interests around the world." They said Villanueva communicated via social media with two individuals who self-identified as ISIS fighters. During these communications, Villanueva discussed his desire to support ISIS, and offered to send money to the ISIS fighters to support their terrorist activities, the US DOJ statement said. Villanueva, the agency added, told one of the self-identified ISIS fighters that he wanted to fight for the extremist group himself, stating, "It's an honor to fight and die for our faith. It's the best way to go to heaven." Villanueva also stated: "Someday soon, I'll be joining." Prosecutors said the FBI recovered what appeared to be a bomb from Villanueva's bedroom. In a February 2025 message with one of the self-identified ISIS fighters, Villanueva offered to send the individual money, and asked whether the money would "cover your equipment and your weapons." Villanueva discussed sending the money through an intermediary, the US DOJ said. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
