Tom Brady and Greg Olsen reveal the truth behind their Fox rivalry after NFL great placed former tight end in the booth

Daily Mail17 hours ago
Fox Sports brought some criticism down on their heads when Tom Brady replaced Emmy-award winning analyst Greg Olsen in the No. 1 color commentary spot for the network's NFL coverage.
Olsen, recognized as one of the best in the business, was demoted to the second team with Joe Davis while Brady took the top spot alongside Kevin Burkhardt.
Brady spent all of last season getting more acclimated to the job, but still faced detractors as the seven-time Super Bowl champion appeared to need to iron out some wrinkles that Olsen very clearly didn't have.
However, the two were able to treat their situation - and each other - with mutual respect and grace while trying to be as amicable as possible.
'There's a part with our jobs where people want to write about it. I don't give a s**t about any of that,' Brady said in a recent appearance on Olsen's podcast 'Youth Inc.'
'I just care about my relationship with you, because I know if I'm cool with you, that's all that matters,' Brady continued.
The pair framed their conversation in the context of youth sports - with the two showing how the always competitive broadcasting field could compare to kids' athletics.
'I've been very comfortable sharing it with you and sharing it with everyone else, I kind of think it's cool for you and I in this moment to show we can both want to be great, and it doesn't mean I want either of us to be bad,' Olsen said.
Brady hasn't been as outspoken about his relationship with Olsen. However, he revealed on the show about how much he's learned from the former tight end - including how he watched Olsen's game tape to improve.
'When I look in broadcasting, I was very much a rookie this last year. But I looked up to a lot of people who I thought, "Man, he does a great job." And you're obviously one of the greats already at such a young age,' Brady told Olsen.
'I watched so much Greg Olsen broadcasting tape, and I just said, what does he do that I really like that maybe I can apply in my prep … or my on-air?'
Brady also compared his competition with Olsen to his struggles on the depth chart early in his career - when he fought up the ranks at Michigan and with the Patriots.

Karol G to headline halftime show during YouTube's first exclusive NFL broadcast, live from Brazil

Bringing football fans, Brazil and Karol G together for a one-night experience? That's a winning formula. The Grammy award-winning musician will headline a halftime show during YouTube's first exclusive NFL broadcast next month, which will stream live from Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil on Sept. 5. That's the NFL week 1 matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and the reigning AFC-winning Kansas City Chiefs. 'This year has been truly rewarding, and the timing of this opportunity — to be part of such an important moment like YouTube's first-ever NFL live broadcast — is perfect,' the singer shared in an exclusive written statement. 'With my latest album 'Tropicoqueta,' I set out to represent the many facets of my Latin culture, something I'm incredibly passionate about in everything I do. I'm excited to bring that same energy and pride to this global stage and honored to continue elevating Latin culture on such a monumental platform.' It's a natural pairing. Karol G is a global superstar, American football is growing in popularity worldwide, and many of the world's most ardent music fans call Brazil home — it's one of the many reasons 'Come to Brazil' has become a stalwart meme, a three-word stand-in for the ultimate expression of fandom. 'Our goal is to highlight the excitement and Americana of the NFL, but do this thoughtfully in a way that plays to local cultures, practices and traditions,' said Tim Tubito, senior director of global game presentation and entertainment at the NFL. Booking Karol G 'not only excites our fans and pays homage to their culture in South America, but has an impact on a global scale,' he added. 'We hope all of our fans are ready for a historic celebration.' The game is free to stream for fans across the globe, exclusively through YouTube and YouTube TV. It begins at 5 p.m. Pacific / 8 p.m. Eastern / 9 p.m. BRT (local time). A pre-show kicks off an hour earlier. 'To celebrate this moment, we are thrilled that global superstar Karol G will perform during our halftime show,' said Angela Courtin, VP of sports and entertainment marketing at YouTube in a statement. 'The game and performance will be broadcast worldwide for free on YouTube, blending the fandom of sports and music together for one epic cultural moment.'

Wayne Rooney: Criticism from Birmingham minority owner Tom Brady ‘very unfair'

Rooney, sacked by Birmingham in January 2024 after less than three months in charge, said he was 'really disappointed with the comment' on his new podcast, The Wayne Rooney Show, which launches on Friday. NFL great Brady, who became a minority shareholder at Birmingham in August 2023, said he was 'a little worried about our head coach's work ethic' during a documentary after visiting Blues' training ground the following November. Former England captain Rooney said he was 'really disappointed' at the seven-time Super Bowl winner's criticism. Speaking via his new show on the BBC, the ex-Everton and Manchester United striker said: 'I think Tom came in once, which was the day before a game where the days are a little bit lighter anyway, and I don't think he really understood football that well. 'But what he does understand is – he's a hard worker – we know that.' Rooney added: 'Football is not NFL – NFL works for three months a year. Players do need rest as well, so I think he's very unfair, the way he's come out and portrayed that.' Birmingham were bought out by American consortium Knighthead Capital Management in the summer of 2023 and Brady became a shareholder two months later. Rooney was sacked following 15 matches after Blues had slipped to 20th in the Sky Bet Championship and the club were relegated at the end of the 2023-24 season. Under current boss Chris Davies, Birmingham bounced straight back to the second tier as League One champions last season with an English Football League record points tally of 111.
