But now, the path has been cleared. The top court refused to extend the stay, stating clearly: 'Let the film be released'.With the Supreme Court's backing, the film is all set for its long-awaited theatrical debut.

Faced online abuse for years, but rape threats are a new low: Actor Ramya

Actor-politician Ramya has slammed fans of Kannada star Darshan for harassment on social media. On Monday (July 28, 2025), Ramya lodged a complaint with the Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru, against fans for online abuse. A couple of days before her complaint, Ramya had shared news reports regarding Supreme Court proceedings in the murder case of Renukaswamy, in which Darshan is one of the accused persons. The actor spoke to The Hindu about being threatened by the fans, who also sent her 'obnoxious' messages on social media. Excerpts: Online abuse of female actors is growing at an alarming rate... Trolling and abusing female actors have become common because people aren't speaking openly about it. Most women fear character assassination. They are not comfortable with the abuses they receive. Our self-respect and dignity are given importance in society because, as women, that's how we have been raised. If women had the courage in the past to take the legal route, perhaps we wouldn't be facing such a serious situation today. For how long have you been receiving offensive messages online? I have faced online abuse for years, but nobody had ever said 'I want to murder you or rape you'. That's what these fans are sending me now. People have called me a slut or a whore. I have gotten used to these kinds of comments, and that's the sad part. Unfortunately, I have become immune to it. Imagine the trauma women carry by facing constant abuse online. A couple of years ago, fans of two stars were targeting each other, and they commented badly about the children of one of the stars. I found it disgusting, and I put out the screenshots of those uncivilised messages on social media to expose these fans. The stars should have stepped in to bring some sense to their respective fans. Darshan should have said he doesn't like such behaviour from his fans. Maybe then, the Renukaswamy incident might not have happened. He (Renukaswamy) was your fan, and this is the kind of behaviour you have encouraged. What made you take a stand against Darshan in the Renukaswamy murder case? Most women cannot afford legal fees in such battles. They can't afford to put themselves out in public because they have a family to take care. They have confided this to me. Fortunately, I am in a position of privilege; I have been a former MP. I have been in politics, so I have the contacts and the support. I don't want to deny that. That said, if I don't use that privilege for something meaningful, I am letting down other women. Those clubs used to conduct blood donation camps and involve themselves in philanthropy. However, fan wars have become the norm now. This is why I am upset at those who remain silent about trolls and abuses. You think these fans are faceless and can't go beyond their so-called bravado online, but they are actually capable of going on the roads and beating people who speak against their favourite stars.

Re-certification of ‘Udaipur Files' pending, Delhi HC told

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court was on Monday informed that the producers of the film 'Udaipur Files - Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder' had applied to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for a re-certification of the movie which was likely to be considered soon. The producers further said the six cuts suggested by the Centre had been made in addition to a disclaimer. Noting the submission that the film's re-certification was pending and a request for adjournment was made on behalf of one of the petitioners, a bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela posted the hearing for July 30. The petitions were filed by Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind president Maulana Arshad Madani and Mohd Javed, who is an accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case. Two petitions related to the movie row came before the High Court post a Supreme Court direction. The top court directed the petitioners to move the high court against the Centre's revisional order of giving nod for the film's release. The producers of the film had moved the top court after a high court bench previously stayed the film's release. The apex court on July 25 said the film-makers' appeal against the high court order staying the film's release was infructuous for they had accepted the July 21 Centre nod for the film's release, subject to six cuts in its scenes and modifications in the disclaimer. After High Court on Monday asked the CBFC counsel whether the movie was re-certified, it was informed that the film was approved with some cuts. The counsel for the film producers said the movie was approved with six cuts and one disclaimer and the certification was pending. The bench noted since there was no re-certification till now, the producers couldn't release it without it. Observing there was no urgency, the court posted the hearing for July 30. Udaipur-based tailor Kanhaiya Lal was murdered in June 2022 allegedly by Mohammad Riyaz and Mohammad Ghous. The assailants later released a video claiming the murder was in reaction to the tailor allegedly sharing a social media post in support of former BJP member Nupur Sharma following her controversial comments on Prophet Mohammed. The case was probed by the NIA and the accused were booked under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, besides provisions under the IPC. The trial is pending before the special NIA court in Jaipur.

Noting the submission that the film's re-certification was pending, and one of the petitioners had requested an adjournment, a bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela agreed to hear the matter on July 30. The petitions had been sent back to HC by Supreme Court (SC) hearing the plea of Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind President Maulana Arshad Madani and Mohd Javed, an accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case. SC asked the petitioners to move HC against the Centre's revisional order permitting the film's release. HC had earlier stayed the film's release, prompting its producers to approach SC. Last week, SC had pointed out that the filmmakers' appeal against the HC order staying the film's release no longer survived as they had accepted the July 21 Centre nod for the film's release, subject to six cuts in its scenes and modifications in the disclaimer. On Monday, when HC asked the Centre's counsel if the movie had been re-certified, it was informed that the film had been approved with six cuts and one disclaimer, and the certification was pending. Javed's counsel sought an assurance that the movie wouldn't be released till the next date of hearing. HC said until re-certification, the producers cannot release the film anyway. Udaipur-based tailor Kanhaiya Lal was murdered in June 2022.
