EastEnders legend quits Albert Square TONIGHT in heart-wrenching scenes - leaving best friend crushed

An EastEnders legend quits Albert Square during Tuesday's episode of the BBC soap.
This evening's instalment (15 July) - which is available to watch on iPlayer now - will see Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley) and his wife Julie (Karen Henthorn) wave goodbye to Walford in heart-wrenching scenes.
Right at the end of the instalment the pair are stood outside next to a taxi ahead of their journey home.
Julie tells Nigel: 'I think we should just go.
'Sometimes it's easier on everyone to just slip out. I think Phil might prefer it that way.'
As he tries to walk away, she says: 'You've got me!'
This evening's instalment (15 July) will see Nigel and his wife Julie (Karen Henthorn) wave goodbye to Walford in heart-wrenching scenes (pictured)
Nigel steps into the car and Julie tells him: 'Just focus on me.'
Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) is seen watching them from afar and smiles at the pair.
Julie gives her eye contact and steps into the taxi.
As Nigel looks out of the window of the vehicle, Linda smiles back at him.
'Let's get going, we don't want to miss that train, do we?' Linda tells Nigel as she puts her seat belt on.
The taxi drives away from the Square and Phil is captured sitting in his kitchen looking at an old picture of Nigel.
Some have taken to X to share their heartbreak already.
One said: 'I am so sad Nigel is gone. Loved the storyline and now poor Phil is alone again, hope they bring him back soon.'
'Oh no Nigel! I didn't think he was really leaving. I had hoped Julie would decide to move in to help Phil with him.'
'Goodbye, Nigel.'
'phil and linda in todays ep… i'm grateful they didn't kill nigel off the show he's been such a pleasure to watch these past few weeks.'
Just last month Karen's return to the BBC soap was confirmed.
The actress, 62, previously played Julie Bates on the show between 1997 and 1998.
Her alter-ego was last seen in Walford 27 years ago when she moved to Scotland with her husband Nigel.
But as viewers will know, Nigel returned to the Square in 2024, and told everyone that they had split... but it was actually he wanted to deal with his dementia by himself.
The cafe worker felt as if he was weighing his wife down.
However she returned to the Square to tell him that she's sticking around.
Karen said of reprising her role: 'It's very surreal to be back in Albert Square after 27 years and working with the delightful Paul Bradley again - it's scary how fast the time has gone!
'Julie has got some awful surprises ahead of her after the initial relief she feels to discover Nigel is still alive.
'It's been great to film with Paul and Steve (McFadden), who are such lovely actors, as Julie discovers Nigel's dementia diagnosis and why he chose to hide it from her.'
Executive Producer Ben Wadey added: 'We are delighted to have Karen Henthorn returning to reprise her role as Julie, who arrives looking for Nigel.
'Julie hasn't seen Nigel in almost two years and is unaware of his diagnosis and reasons for leaving, so her arrival will pose questions for the pair of them.'
EastEnders isn't the only role that Karen has held on a soap over the years - she also played Teresa Bryant on Coronation Street between 2007 and 2009.
She's also been in Doctors, Heartbeat and Trollied.
The star also played the school inspector in Young Dracula.
More recently she took on the role of Emily in The Listeners.
The actress currently teaches students at the Italia Conti Academy.
Meanwhile Paul appeared on EastEnders between 1992 and 1998, followed by another stint in 2024.
He has also landed roles in various other TV shows such as Holby City, My Family, Doctors, The Bill and Beyond Paradise.
Announcing the news that he would be back on the Square, Paul said:
He said: 'I'm thrilled and honoured to be back as Nigel. Despite it being such a long time ago, I still get recognised as Nigel in the street.
'Returning has been great as I'm so familiar with many of the faces at EastEnders, and they are a very friendly bunch.
'It's fantastic to work with Steve McFadden again - I'm a huge admirer of his work, and he sets the bar really high. I'm having a really good time.'
EastEnders airs on BBC One and is available to stream on iPlayer.

Indiana Jones whip snaps up $525,000 at auction after 'Citizen Kane' sled goes for $14.75 million

A whip wielded by Harrison Ford in ' Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' that once belonged to Princess Diana has sold at auction for $525,000. Thursday's sale came a day after the Rosebud sled from 'Citizen Kane' went for a staggering $14.75 million, making it one of the priciest props in movie history. They were part of the Summer Entertainment Auction being held all week by Heritage Auctions. Heritage says the overall take has made it the second-highest grossing entertainment auction of all time, and there's still a day to go. Yet to be up for bids are Macaulay Culkin's knit snow cap from 'Home Alone,' a Kurt Russell revolver from 'Wyatt Earp,' a pair of 'Hattori Hanzo' prop swords from 'Kill Bill Vol. 1" and a first edition set of Harry Potter novels signed by J.K. Rowling. The whip sold Thursday was used during the Holy Grail trials that Ford's character goes through at the climax of 1989's 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.' Ford gave it to then-Prince Charles at the film's U.K. premiere. It was given as a gift to Princess Diana, who gave it to the current owner, who was not identified. The buyer also was not identified. 'The bullwhip is the iconic symbol of an iconic character of cinema history, Indiana Jones, and has been a highlight of this auction," Joe Maddalena, Heritage's executive vice president, said in a statement to The Associated Press. The $525,000 price includes the 'buyers premium' attached to all auction items for the house that sells it. Heritage said the nearly $15 million bid for the Rosebud sled puts it second only to the $32.5 million that Judy Garland's ruby slippers from 'The Wizard of Oz' fetched in December. Neither of those buyers were identified either. The sled was sold by longtime owner Joe Dante, director of films including 'Gremlins.' 'Rosebud' is the last word spoken by the title character in director Orson Welles ' 1941 film 'Citizen Kane,' and the hunt for its meaning provides the film's plot. Many critics have regarded it as the best film ever made. Long thought lost, the sled is one of three of the prop known to have survived. Dante stumbled on it when he was filming on the former RKO Pictures lot in 1984. He wasn't a collector, but knew the value of the sled and quietly preserved it for decades, putting it as an Easter egg into four of his own films. Dante's friend and mentor Steven Spielberg paid $60,500 for another of the sleds in 1982, and anonymous buyer paid $233,000 for the third in 1996.

EXCLUSIVE Fresh storm over John Torode's 'racist' comment: Friends of axed presenter accuse BBC of stitch-up because they think MasterChef is too 'male, pale, stale' - and say he is now considering legal action: GRANT TUCKER

It is the word that cost John Torode his highly lucrative role as the face of MasterChef after two decades. So, what could the 59-year-old have uttered that was deemed so offensive it warranted his dismissal? Since Torode outed himself on Monday night as the individual found to have used 'extremely offensive racist language' seven years ago in an inquiry into separate allegations against his co-host Gregg Wallace, that has been the question sparking feverish speculation among MasterChef fans and television insiders.

Adolescence star Owen Cooper, 15, could make history as the youngest male Emmy Award winner EVER as show sweeps the board with 13 nominations

Adolescence star Owen Cooper has become one of the youngest Emmy Award nominees ever after the shortlist for this year's awards was announced on Tuesday. At just 15-years-old the Warrington school will be the youngest-ever male winner in the 76-year history of the 'TV Oscars ' if he scoops the accolade for his role in one of Netflix 's most-watched series ever which has swept the board with 13 nominations. Owen has been nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Anthology Series or Movie category at the Primetime after he starred alongside his on screen dad Stephen Graham. He will go up against his co-star Ashley Walters who has been nominated for his first Emmy in the same category after his role as DI Luke Bascombe. In his very first acting job, Owen played Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old arrested by armed police on suspicion of murder, in the gripping series which had the nation talking earlier this year. The youngest person ever to have won a Primetime Emmy is Roxana Zal, who at just 14 scored the Best Supporting Actress gong in 1984 for her role TV movie Something About Amelia. Meanwhile Scott Jacoby is the youngest male, making history when he bagged the Best Supporting Actor at 16 in 1973 for drama That Certain Summer. The show is also nominated in the Best Limited or Anthology Series alongside Black Mirror, Dying for Sex, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and The Penguin. MailOnline previously revealed that Adolescence star would be entered in the Best Supporting Actor category, as opposed to Best Actor, which experts hailed as a 'genius move' and said would massively boost his chances of winning. Also in the category with Owen and Ashley is Javier Bardem, for his role in Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story, Bill Camp and Peter Sarsgaard, for their resepective roles in Presumed Innocent and Rob Delaney, for his role in Dying For Sex. Speaking about his nomination, Ashley gushed: 'This is such an honour. This nomination means the world to me — not just as recognition, but as a reminder of how far I've come. 'It's for everyone who stood by me through the highs and the lows, who believed in me when I needed it most. 'It's a testament to the power of perseverance. Dreams are important — but it's the hard work, the setbacks, the growth, and the consistency that make them real. 'Five years ago, this felt out of reach. Today, I'm incredibly proud — not just for myself, but to stand alongside a group of artists I admire deeply. The Mail's Parents versus The Internet podcast featuring Adolescence creator Jack Thorne is available now 'What we made together is something I'll carry with me forever, and to see it acknowledged on this level is truly special. 'Thank you to the Emmys for this nomination. To my wife and kids — thank you for grounding me and giving me purpose. To my family and friends, for being my foundation. 'To my team, who've worked tirelessly behind the scenes. And to the entire cast and crew — thank you for your brilliance and your heart. This moment is for all of us.' Owen, who hails from a proudly working class estate in central Warrington, was chosen from 500 candidates for the role of Jamie. It was his first-ever acting job and no one in his family has a background in the industry. He is being supported on his meteoric rise by dad Andy, an IT worker, and mum Noreen, a carer. Speaking about the change in their lives, Noreen said: 'It's such a shock, but we're getting on with it.' Last month Owen revealed he had even received praise from one huge Hollywood star, none other than Leonardo DiCaprio. During his appearance on Jimmy Fallon's talk show, Owen revealed the Oscar winner left him a video message when he was with his onscreen dad Stephen Graham. He said: 'Stephen Graham sent me a video yesterday and it's Leonardo DiCaprio sat next to him and he was saying "Hey Owen, I'm such a big fan of Adolescene". 'And I was like "What!"' Brand and culture expert Nick Ede predicted Owen could follow in Timothée Chalamet's footsteps and become 'the toast of Hollywood'. He told MailOnline: 'The phenomenal success of Adolescence has taken the TV world by storm and critics have been raving about Owen's stand-out performance. 'The Hollywood elite love a rags-to-riches story and, at 15 and his first ever role, this young actor who was brought up in humble surroundings could soon become Hollywood's hottest property and follow the path of many other child stars who have become household names, like Millie Bobby Brown or Timothee Chalamet. 'I'm sure writers will already be presenting his agents with scripts and synopsis that will feature him.' The Emmy awards ceremony will take place in LA on September 14.
