IPL 2025 eliminator: Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians builds tension as fans roar ‘We trust Shubman Gill with closed eyes!'
Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians are set to face off in the IPL 2025 Eliminator at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on May 30. This crucial match will determine who moves on to face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2. With Gujarat aiming to keep their knockout momentum and Mumbai hoping to capitalise on their vast playoff experience, fans are in for a tight contest.
Past playoff performance
Since their debut, Gujarat Titans have made an immediate impact, reaching the finals twice in their three seasons. In terms of playoff matches, excluding finals, GT have played three and come out victorious in two, giving them a solid 66.67% success rate in the knockouts.
Mumbai Indians, the five-time IPL champions, bring with them a rich playoff legacy. They have featured in 14 playoff games—excluding finals—and won eight of them. That brings their playoff win percentage to a respectable 57.14%. They've also reached the IPL final six times, clinching the trophy in five of those appearances.
Recent form and head-to-head
Coming into this match, Gujarat Titans are looking to bounce back after suffering two back-to-back losses. But their record against Mumbai this season offers hope. GT has already defeated MI twice in IPL 2025 and hold an overall edge with five wins out of seven encounters between the two teams.
The two sides have only clashed once before in a knockout game. That was in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2023, where Gujarat came out on top with a convincing 62-run win. With that history on their side, GT will hope to keep their upper hand intact.
What fans are saying
The clash has sparked excitement online. One fan asked, 'MI vs GT, who is winning today?' while another said, 'Excited for the MI vs GT clash! Who's your pick for MOM?'
A viewer stressed the importance of MI's bowling strategy, saying, 'Hardik Pandya should use Jasprit Bumrah right away. With Buttler out, they need to get the openers as fast as possible.'
Hardik Pandya should use Jasprit Bumrah right away, with Buttler out of the picture, they need to try to get the openers as fast as possible, as it will make a huge difference in the outcome. 🎯
On the Gujarat side, Shubman Gill continues to command fan trust. One supporter said, 'I can bet on Shubman Gill, #AankhBandhKarke. His 649 runs this season, leadership, and ability to anchor the innings make him GT's best chance today.'
I can bet on **Shubman Gill**, #AankhBandhKarke I'd be confident in his ability to anchor the innings with his 649 runs this season. His leadership and consistency make him Gujarat Titans' best chance to ensure that Gujarat doesn't get eliminated today. #AankhBandhKarkeLeLo
With knockout pressure high and key players in form, this IPL 2025 Eliminator could be decided by smart captaincy and early breakthroughs.

Virat Kohli Asked To Reconsider Test Retirement Once Again: "Given The Fitness..."
Virat Kohli announced a shocking Test retirement last month. After a poor series in Australia, the player decided not to play the format anymore. Though he took a time of around four months before coming to the decision. Former BCCI treasurer and current chairman of Indian Premier League Arun Dhumal wants Kohli to reconsider his decision of Test retirement. Kohli's IPL team Royal Challengers Bengaluru has made it to the final of the 2025 season and Dhumal wants that Kohli should not retire even if his side wins the trophy. When asked if Kohli would retire if RCB win the title, Dhumal told PTI: "See neither do I think that, nor do I hope that." "Virat is the greatest ambassador for the sport (of cricket). And the kind of commitment he has shown over the last 18 editions, I would say Virat is to cricket what (Novak) Djokovic or Roger Federer is to tennis. So I would want him to continue playing IPL and I would rather want him to reconsider his decision of retirement from Test cricket. "Given the fitness that Virat has, he is probably fitter now than he was in the first season, after playing 18 editions of the IPL. And he still comes back with the same kind of energy and commitment to the game. Given his dedication in the first season and the next 17, he is going to come back with the same aggression and commitment. Even if RCB win, I would, and the whole country would want Virat to continue." RCB made it to the final of IPL 2025 after outplaying Punjab Kings by 8 wickets in Qualifier 1 game in Mullanpur. This is the fourth final that the side will be playing in the history of IPL. RCB are still in quest for a maiden title. They lost all the previous finals in 2009, 2011 and 2016. Who won yesterday IPL match? Top highlights from MI vs PBKS Qualifier 2 clash
Who won yesterday IPL match: Mumbai Indians' losing run at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad continues as the Hardik Pandya led franchise faced a five wicket defeat at the hands of Punjab Kings on Sunday. The defeat ended hopes of this being a redemption year for Hardik Pandya after the batter went through a tough time in the cash rich league last year. Meanwhile, Iyer - who believes he did not get enough credit for KKR's IPL win last year - will have an opportuntunity to lift the coveted trophy in successive years albeit with different teams. For a while it looked like the rain gods may be stealing all the fun out of the PBKS vs MI match as it continued to drizzle in parts in Ahmedabad. As it turns out, the two hours of reserve time set aside by the BCCI came in handy as the match began at 9:45PM without a loss of overs. PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bowl first after a shocking failure of his batting lineup in the last match. PBKS got the wicket of Rohit Sharma early in the innings as the batter got out within the 30 yard circle while trying to hit a big shot to Marcus Stoinis. However, Jonny Bairstow was the danger man for MI as he smashed the PBKS bowlers all round the park and helped his side have a strong powerplay. Shortly after the 6 over mark, Bairstow was dismissed by Vyshak Vijay Kumar on a score of 38. From there on, Suryakumar Yadav (44 off 26 balls) and Tilak Varma (44 off 29 ball) led MI to a stable position from where they could accelerate in the last few overs when Naman Dhir (37 off 18 balls) took over and helped MI post over 200 runs in their 20 overs. While chasing a total of 204 runs, PBKS lost the early wickets of their two operners Prabhsimran Singh (6 off 9 balls) and Priyansh Arya (20 off 10 balls) early, bringing Josh Inglis and Shreyas Iyer to the crease. Inglis straight away got in attacking mode and continued to maintain the scoring rate for PBKS while Iyer took a bit of time at the start. After Inglis' wicket, Iyer partnered up with Nehal Wadhera (48 off 29 balls) to take PBKS at a strong position in the match. By the time Wadhera got out, PBKS were well in the game but Iyer (81 off 47 balls) stayed till the last ball to ensure that the victory did not spill from his grasps.
