BCCI-PCB meeting in Singapore? Asia Cup 2025 discussion reportedly set for ICC AGM sidelines

More clarity on the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 could emerge after the International Cricket Council (ICC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2025 in Singapore, which will take place from 17 to 20 July, as the Asian giants, including India and Pakistan, could hold talks on the sidelines of the event.
The Asia Cup 2025, which will take place in the T20 format as a preparatory tournament for the T20 World Cup 2026, is pencilled in to take place in September with India being the hosts. However, the future of the 2025 Asia Cup has been up in the air since April's Pahalgam terror attack in India, resulting in 26 deaths, and the retaliatory attacks by India through Operation Sindoor, as they destroyed multiple terror camps in Pakistan.

Asia Cup 2025 future remains in limbo
Since then, there have been reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was unwilling to take part in a tournament that is hosted by a body headed by a Pakistani. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is headed by the current Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi. However, that claims have been since refuted by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia.
'Since this morning, it has come to our notice about some news items about BCCI's decision not to participate in the Asia Cup and Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup, both ACC's events,' Saikia said.
India's participation in matches against Pakistan has been regulated by the Indian government in recent years, with the two neighbouring nations only competing against each other in ICC tournaments in cricket. The last bilateral series between the two countries was played in 2012-13.
All of these point towards India boycotting the Asia Cup 2025. But considering the money riding on the tournament, it's quite possible that India and Pakistan get ready for the tournament eventually.
Asia Cup media rights were acquired by Sony Pictures Networks India from 2024 to 2031 at a base price of $170 million. In case India do not take part in the tournament, ACC and Sony Sports are set to face massive losses.
India-Pakistan cricket meet in Singapore?
Efforts to get India to agree to take part in the Asia Cup 2025 could now take place at the ICC AGM, as per Forbes. The Asia Cup falls under the purview of ACC, but the ICC AGM will be used to hold discussions between BCCI and PCB on the sidelines regarding the continental tournament.
The report also added that the Asia Cup 2025 will take place in the United Arab Emirates if it' not cancelled. However, if India pull out of the tournament, there's a good chance the tournament will be cancelled.

Fouls prove fatal, India crash out of Asia Cup women's basketball
Nagpur: Defensive lapses and a minute of foul fury proved fatal for India as the 79th-ranked women cagers lost the semifinal qualification game to Thailand 76-93 and crashed out of the FIBA Asia Cup basketball tournament at Shenzhen Sports Center in China on Friday. With an aim to register their first win over World No. 66 Thailand, the Indians made a positive start and were able to hold their higher-ranked opponents to a marginal six-point lead at the lemon break. The change of ends turned things in Thailand's favour when India came under severe foul trouble by committing all their four fouls within just a minute in the initial stage of the third quarter. Thailand capitalised on India's third-minute blunder and dominated the remaining period of the third quarter by winning the same 29-18 for a match-winning 17-point advantage. Though India scored heavily in the last quarter — where both teams netted 25 points each — they fell short and lost the qualification game by 17 points. With this defeat in Division B of the tournament, Indian women will now have to wait for four years to participate with the top 10 teams of Asia. If a team qualifies for Division A in 2027, they can participate in the 2029 Asia Cup. Though India won the battle of boards 35-32, Thailand scored as many as 20 turnover points. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Thailand's 40% conversion of three-pointers by converting 18 of the 45 attempts as compared to just the three (3:16) made by India handed them an early exit from the tournament. India's head coach Baskar Sappaniambalam can be held guilty of employing a wrong strategy vis-a-vis their woman-to-woman marking and substitutions. Indian point guard Dharshini Thirunavukkarasu, who was given a floor time of 31 minutes and scored just four baskets, was the one who led India's foul fury in the third quarter. Despite the presence of two other point guards in the contingent, Baskar allowed Dharshini to remain on the court. For Thailand, Rattiyakorn Udomsuk (25) and Warinthon Summat (14) did the bulk of the scoring. Sreekala Rani and Pushpa Senthil Kumar led India's scoring with an identical 23-point effort as Aneesha Cleetus (11) and Sanjana Ramesh (10) scored in double digits. India will now play the fifth-place classification game against Kazakhstan, who lost the qualification against Mongolia 70-78. RESULT: Thailand (Rattiyakorn Udomsuk 25, Warinthon Summat 14) bt India (Sreekala Rani 23, Pushpa Senthil Kumar 23, Aneesha Cleetus 11, Sanjana Ramesh 10) 93-76 (20-18, 19-15, 29-18, 25-25).

"Not Intentional": Pratika Rawal On Shoulder Contact With England's Lauren Filer, Sophie Ecclestone
India batter Pratika Rawal on Friday clarified that her shoulder contact with England cricketers during the first Women's ODI was "not intentional" after she was fined and handed one demerit point by the ICC. The ICC had earlier imposed a 10 per cent match fee fine and handed a demerit point to Rawal for breaching its Code of Conduct, saying the Indian batter engaged in "avoidable physical contact" with England's Lauren Filer and Sophie Ecclestone in the 18th and 19th overs. "It was not intentional. I was just running in my way and that shoulder barge thing was completely out of... It was not deliberate in that sense," Rawal told the media on the eve of the second ODI here. "I don't think there is a (need to have a) reaction to it or maybe (make) a fuss out of it. It was not intentional," she added on the incident that took place at Southampton. England were also fined five per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate during the opening ODI which India won by four wickets. The ICC said both Rawal and England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt "accepted their respective sanctions" imposed by the match referee. Rawal said India are focussing on one game at a time given they are coming off a 3-2 win in the five-match T20I series and need only one win from next two matches to win the ODI series. "We are taking just one game at a time. Currently, our prime focus is to win this series. To win the next match, we are already up in the series. Our prime focus is to win this series with 3-0, that will be great," she said. "Also, what I feel like, keeping one thing at a time, it helps with better focus and better concentration so we are just on that note," she added. The right-handed top-order batter said scoring against teams like England Australia - with whom India will play three ODIs before the World Cup at home - will give her a lot of confidence. The opener made a 51-ball 36 in the first match that India won by four wickets. "Scoring well against teams like England and Australia gives you a lot of confidence and when we get a lot of matches against them, it builds a type of confidence that is required in the upcoming series and matches," Rawal said. "It's a great initiative to play as many matches as we can. Also, the fact that the way our team is progressing right now is amazing and there has been a lot of contribution from all the players," she added.
