THE WALKING DEAD's Scott Gimple Says Don't Count on THE ONES WHO LIVE Season 2, but That Doesn't Mean It's Over — GeekTyrant

With The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon already on its second season and Dead City set to return in May, fans have been wondering about the future of The Ones Who Live . The limited series brought back Rick and Michonne for a long-awaited reunion, but is there more to their story?
So far, AMC hasn't announced a renewal, and based on recent comments from The Walking Dead 's chief content officer Scott Gimple, it sounds like we shouldn't expect one.
He said: "I mean, the plan was to keep it limited.' Reinforcing the idea that The Ones Who Live was always meant to be a one-off. But that doesn't necessarily mean we've seen the last of Rick and Michonne.
He added: "Not necessarily never to see those characters again, but to keep it limited. But I always say, you never know."
The series, starring Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, follows Rick and Michonne years after they were separated in the main show. Rick, a reluctant prisoner of the Civic Republic Military, is finally reunited with Michonne, and together, they take on the CRM's questionable plans for rebuilding civilization.
Gimple, however, isn't shutting the door completely. "There's so many... I've been very careful to not say, 'Oh, that'll never happen,' because it does.
"So you know, there are possibilities. And there's possibilities of all sorts of strange iterations of shows with those characters and with other characters. So you know, I think it's entirely possible."
Lincoln also previoiusly weighed in on the possibility of reprising the role of Rick again at some point in the future, saying: "This, for me, felt that we could comfortably say that that's done.'
He continued: 'That's a reunion; that's the perfect iteration of a story that I thought wasn't gonna happen for a time, and then Danai and Scott both said, 'We need to reunite, we've got to do an epic love story.'
"I went, 'That's a great idea – and let's tell the story of the CRM and do what the grown-ups have been doing' and maybe some filling in, because I love all of that.'
He went on to say that he's not counting out a possible return: "I'm a bit of a geek for all of the mythology and what's going on, what's been happening. So the short answer is never say never.
'Because if there's a good enough place to put Rick in, that we haven't seen before, there are characters out in the universe that I would love to act with again. But it has to be a really, really, really good story."
We'll just have to wait and see how things continue to play out in the franchise. While The Ones Who Live might not get a second season, it sounds like this isn't the last time we'll see Rick and Michonne in action.

A Podcast for the Questions Rarely Asked

Times Insider explains who we are and what we do and delivers behind-the-scenes insights into how our journalism comes together. When Wesley Morris, a critic at large for the Culture desk at The New York Times, was brainstorming what he wanted to do with his new podcast, he had carte blanche to invite pretty much any guest he wanted. But he didn't just want to talk to celebrities. Mr. Morris, who has won two Pulitzer Prizes for criticism, wanted to talk to the people who write about culture and the artists who make it, whether they were his friends or colleagues, or someone else who might have interesting things to say about why a particular show, character or maker had cut through the noise. 'The thing about having critics and writers come on is that they're used to talking about art and culture,' Mr. Morris said. 'But artists would love to talk about things they're not normally asked about.' In the new weekly conversation show he is hosting, 'Cannonball,' which debuted last month and drops new episodes on Thursdays, Mr. Morris said he seeks to explore culture 'in the broadest possible sense.' So far, that has brought us conversations with the writer Mark Harris about the new Pee-wee Herman documentary and what it means for artists to publicly come out, and with the chef and cookbook author Samin Nosrat about her love-hate relationship with FX's restaurant industry drama 'The Bear.' In an interview, Mr. Morris shared his favorite podcasts and his dream guest for 'Cannonball.' These are edited excerpts from the conversation. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.
