Rapper Gigi Lamayne aims to elevate women in the music scene
The conference is set to take place on May 22 at Constitution Hill in Braamfontein and features musicians Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Msaki, Jack Parow, Rethabile Khumalo, Busiswa and more.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Gigi said she's in a special space creatively and professionally.
'I'm fresh off the release of my album Doves and Scones, and it's been such a healing and empowering journey. I'm also building my wellness business, IV Zeal Sandton, and gearing up for my upcoming EuroConnect tour. It's a busy season, but I'm incredibly grateful', she said.
During the conference Gigi will be on a panel discussing ways to empower women in the industry.
'The Africa Rising Music Conference is a powerful platform. It's all about driving the African music industry forward, specially for women. I'm honoured to be part of the Women in Music panel, where we're discussing the real challenges and opportunities for women creatives on the continent.'
Gigi said what drew her in was the heart behind it — real conversations, real change. As a woman artist, she'll unpack issues around access, equity, representation and ownership. She said it's not only about being seen, but about building systems that allow women to thrive and lead.
'I've been in the game for more than 10 years. From battles and ciphers to global stages, it's been a wild but beautiful ride. I want to share the importance of resilience, staying authentic, and creating your own table when none is offered. My hope is to inspire younger artists to protect their value and know they belong in every room they step into.'
