Ireland Spinner Aimee Maguire Cleared To Resume Bowling In International Cricket
Maguire was reported for a suspect bowling action during the first ODI of the ICC Women's Championship series against India in Rajkot on January 10, 2025. Following the report, she was suspended from bowling in international matches, keeping in line with the ICC Illegal Bowling Regulations.
Since then, Maguire has remodelled her action and subsequently underwent an independent re-assessment at an ICC-accredited testing centre.
"The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced that following remedial work and re-assessment, the bowling action of Ireland spinner Aimee Maguire has been found to be legal, and she can resume bowling in international cricket," the ICC said in a statement on August 5.
The world governing body of cricket further said that an independent assessment of Maguire's remodelled bowling action at an ICC accredited testing centre concluded that the amount of elbow extension was within the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under the ICC Illegal Bowling Regulations.
As a result, Maguire will be able to resume bowling in international cricket.
Maguire made her international debut in 2023 and has 20 caps for Ireland, taking 25 wickets across formats. She is not in the squad for Ireland's three-match T20 series against Pakistan, which begins in Dublin on Wednesday.

South Africa's Ryan Rickelton hoping to seal opening slot for T20 World Cup 2026
South Africa's dynamic batter Ryan Rickelton has his sights firmly set on the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, with the left-hander hoping to use the upcoming T20I series against Australia as a platform to secure his spot at the top of the Proteas batting 29-year-old, who made his international debut in 2023, has made steady progress across formats for South Africa and is now eyeing consistency in the shortest format. With the Proteas set to play 11 T20Is this calendar year, Rickelton sees this phase as a crucial window to stake his still trying to establish myself in the T20I side but I don't think there'll be any expectation for me to change anything that I've been doing in these last two years," Rickelton told reporters ahead of the series. India captain Shubman Gill was on Wednesday named among the three nominees for ICC's Player of the Month award for July along with South Africa's Wiaan Mulder and England skipper Ben Stokes. Gill led India remarkably in the recently-concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England as his young side emerged with a hard-fought 2-2 draw, a series in which the 25-year-old rewrote batting records. Gill scored 754 runs in the series against England with four centuries, including a double ton at 75.40 to break legendary Sunil Gavaskar's record (732) for the highest run tally for an Indian captain in a five-Test series. Gill's returns are now also the second-best behind Sir Donald Bradman (810 runs) in the all-time list for captains. 'Shubman Gill had a sensational month, amassing 567 runs at an impeccable average of 94.50 in three Tests during India's gripping series in England,' the ICC wrote on its website.
