Ireland Spinner Aimee Maguire Cleared To Resume Bowling In International Cricket

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has cleared Ireland spinner Aimee Maguire to resume bowling in international cricket with immediate effect. Maguire was reported for a suspect bowling action during the first ODI of the ICC Women's Championship series against India in Rajkot on January 10, 2025. Following the report, she was suspended from bowling in international matches, keeping in line with the ICC Illegal Bowling Regulations. Since then, Maguire has remodelled her action and subsequently underwent an independent re-assessment at an ICC-accredited testing centre. "The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced that following remedial work and re-assessment, the bowling action of Ireland spinner Aimee Maguire has been found to be legal, and she can resume bowling in international cricket," the ICC said in a statement on August 5. The world governing body of cricket further said that an independent assessment of Maguire's remodelled bowling action at an ICC accredited testing centre concluded that the amount of elbow extension was within the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under the ICC Illegal Bowling Regulations. As a result, Maguire will be able to resume bowling in international cricket. Maguire made her international debut in 2023 and has 20 caps for Ireland, taking 25 wickets across formats. She is not in the squad for Ireland's three-match T20 series against Pakistan, which begins in Dublin on Wednesday.

ICC counsel to Bato: No testimonies in Duterte case forced

The International Criminal Court (ICC) does not force nor make testimonies for witnesses, and the procedure in taking testimonies is very transparent, an ICC-accredited lawyer said after Senator Ronald 'Bato' dela Rosa claimed that investigators are forcing former police officials to execute affidavits against him and detained former President Rodrigo Duterte. As reported on GMA's '24 Oras Weekend' on Sunday, ICC assistant to counsel Kristina Conti said that questions involving the investigation are under strict guidelines, with camera recordings always made available. Moreover, she added, important witnesses will have to personally give their testimony before the ICC, Conti's remarks come after Dela Rosa—the Philippine National Police (PNP) chief during Duterte's bloody campaign against illegal drugs—said ICC investigators are in the country to force former officials to execute affidavits. Dela Rosa was among the 12 candidates elected or re-elected to the Senate in the midterm elections where he ran under the Duterte-led PDP-Laban faction. He said he will launch an inquiry into the matter. Dela Rosa earlier tagged himself as the number two accused in the ICC case against Duterte, and questioned the arrest of the former President before the Supreme Court. The ICC has been investigating Duterte and other top officials of his administration for crimes against humanity over the alleged systematic drug war deaths in police operations. These deaths reached around 6,000 based on police records, but human rights groups contend that the deaths were as much as 30,000, including vigilante killings. Duterte, who repeatedly said he would accept full legal responsibility for the consequences of his campaign against illegal drugs, was brought to The Hague in The Netherlands earlier in March to be tried for crimes against humanity. One of his legal counsel, lawyer Nicholas Kaufman, said Duterte is being 'illegally detained' and should be brought back to the Philippines 'as soon as possible.' — Jon Viktor D. Usman Tariq reported for suspect action

Usman Tariq was reported for suspect action during the game against Lahore Qalandars. Photo: PCB/file Quetta Gladiators spinner Usman Tariq was reported for a suspect bowling action by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Chris Brown during his side's PSL 10 match against Lahore Qalandars at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday. As per the rules, Usman is allowed to continue bowling in future matches. However, if he is reported again, he will be suspended from bowling and will need to obtain clearance from an ICC-accredited lab before resuming. This is the second time in his PSL career that the mystery spinner has been reported for a suspect action. He was previously flagged during the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League in a match against Karachi Kings. Richard Illingworth and Asif Yaqoob were the on-field umpires during that game. The 2024 edition ended on a disappointing note for the 27-year-old, as he managed to take just two wickets in five matches. In the ongoing tenth edition, he has played two matches so far and picked up three wickets. It is worth mentioning that the Saud Shakeel-led Quetta Gladiators were recently defeated by the two-time PSL champions, Lahore Qalandars, in their second match of the tournament by 79 runs at the Pindi Cricket Stadium. Chasing a daunting target of 220, Quetta Gladiators were bowled out for just 140, falling to a dominant all-round performance by Lahore Qalandars. Shaheen Afridi gave his side a flying start, removing Saud Shakeel for just one run in the opening over. Asif Afridi then dismissed Hassan Nawaz for one, before Shaheen struck again, sending Finn Allen back for a duck. Quetta slumped to 9-3 in just 3.2 overs. Rilee Rossouw and Kusal Mendis attempted a recovery with a 45-run partnership. Mendis smashed 28 off 14 balls before falling to Haris Rauf, leaving Quetta at 54-4. Rossouw kept the fight alive, scoring a brisk 44 off 19 balls—featuring four boundaries and four sixes—before Rishad Hossain claimed his maiden PSL wicket to end the resistance. The collapse continued as Sikandar Raza removed Shoaib Malik for 14 and Akeal Hosein in the same over. Rishad returned to dismiss Mohammad Amir and Abrar Ahmed, completing his three-wicket haul. Asif Afridi wrapped up the tail as Lahore sealed a commanding 110-run victory. Earlier, Lahore Qalandars posted an imposing total of 220, powered by Fakhar Zaman's 67 off 39 balls and Sam Billings' explosive 50 off just 19. Despite two wickets each from Akeal Hosein and Abrar Ahmed, Quetta failed to mount a significant challenge.

Pakistani bowler Usman Tariq reported for suspect bowling action in PSL

Quetta Gladiators' off-spinner Usman Tariq of Pakistan was reported for a suspect bowling action during the Pakistan Super League T20 tournament. Tariq was reported by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Chris Brown after Quetta lost to Lahore Qalandars by 79 runs at Rawalpindi on Sunday night. Tariq bowled his quote of four overs and returned figures of 1-31. He also picked up 2-26 against Peshawar Zalmi as Quetta began its campaign with a thumping 80-run win. "As per the rules, Usman can continue to bowl in future (PSL) matches,' the Pakistan Cricket Board said in a statement. "However, if he is reported again, he will be suspended from bowling and will need to obtain clearance from an ICC-accredited lab before he can resume bowling.' Last year, Tariq was also reported for a suspect bowling action during Quetta's match against Karachi Kings at the same venue before the franchise voluntarily pulled out the off-spinner from the tournament to undergo the bowling test. Later in last August, an ICC-accredited laboratory in Lahore cleared the off-spinner's bowling action and he competed in domestic tournaments without being reported. Associated Press
