
Meralco close to full restoration of power in flood-hit areas
In an advisory, Meralco said 2,790 customers are affected by power outages as of 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, majority of whom were in Cavite, Metro Manila, and Bulacan. This is down from 12,000 as of 7 a.m., and 167,000 customers as of 7 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22.
'As we near completion of our restoration activities, we would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding and assure them that we will continue to closely monitor the weather situation and respond to electricity-related incidents, while prioritizing safety,' Meralco vice president Joe Zaldarriaga said.
Meralco constructs, operates, and maintains electric distribution systems in the cities and municipalities of Bulacan, Cavite, Metro Manila, and Rizal, as well as certain areas in the provinces of Batangas, Laguna, Pampanga, and Quezon.
Classes at all levels and government work have been suspended in parts of Luzon and the Visayas on Thursday, July 24, due to inclement weather.

Meralco customers hit by power outage down to 12,000
The number of Manila Electric Company (Meralco) customers hit by power outages due to the inclement weather conditions is down to 12,000 as of Wednesday morning, with the distribution utility firm now on full alert. In an advisory, Meralco said most of the affected customers are located in Cavite, Metro Manila, and Bulacan, and are affected by flooding as of 7 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22. This is down from 29,000 customers as of 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, and the peak of 167,000 customers as of 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Meralco is now on full alert with the entry of Tropical Depression Dante, which has maintained its strength as it moves northwestward over the Philippine Sea. It is expected to continue bringing moderate to sometimes intense rains over Metro Manila and several provinces. 'We remain vigilant as we monitor the current weather conditions that affect our franchise area. We remain fully committed to restoring electricity service to all impacted customers as safely and swiftly as possible,' Meralco vice president Joe Zaldarriaga said. 'Along with the Department of Energy, we also reiterate our call to continue practicing caution and follow electrical safety guidelines, especially in flood-affected areas,' he added. In an advisory, Meralco said most of the affected customers were in Metro Manila, Bulacan, and Cavite, with the rest in Rizal, Laguna, Batangas, and Quezon as of 7 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22. Nearly 98% or over 163,000 are located in flooded areas. Meralco said 11,000 customers affected by power cuts as of 12 noon on Monday, July 21. "We ask our customers for patience and understanding as heavy floods have triggered disruptions in power services," Meralco vice president Joe Zaldarriaga said. "Rest assured that the safety of our customers and line crews is our top priority and we will immediately restore power in the affected areas once the floodwaters recede and it is safe to do so," he added. Meralco also called on the public to practice safety measures during floods—ensure that the main electrical power switch or circuit breaker is off; unplug appliances; remove mud and dirt from service equipment using rubber gloves and rubber-soled shoes; and ensure that all electrical wires, connectors, and other wiring devices are completely dry. Mariano Alvarez, Naic, Tanza). A yellow rainfall warning was likewise raised on Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, and Quezon. The southwest monsoon or habagat is expected to continue to bring cloudy skies and rains over parts of the country.
