Islam's cousin, Muhammad Mainul Islam, told the New York Post that the news also deeply affected the officer's pregnant wife, who was rushed to the hospital by police on Tuesday morning.
'They are all crying,' the cousin said. 'There is no brother- only him. The family is really feeling a big problem. His wife had the doctor's appointment. I heard one police officer from the precinct, she took [her] to the hospital.'
'His father went last night to see him.
When he heard the message, he had a stroke, feeling bad. So he had a stroke so the hospital did not release him,' he added as quoted by The New York Post.
Didarul Islam, a married father of two, was shot and killed Monday evening by 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura of Las Vegas. The shooting occurred around 6.30 pm inside a 44-story building on Park Avenue.
According to police, Tamura exited a double-parked car with an M4 rifle and immediately opened fire.
He killed four people, and injured one other before taking his own life on the 33rd floor.
The shooting took place during the evening rush hour, prompting a large emergency response. The NYPD's bomb squad, drone units, and heavily armed officers were deployed. Multiple ambulances and helicopters were also present.
Officer Islam was fatally shot in the building's lobby. He had served for over three years with the NYPD's 47th Precinct in the Bronx.

Originally from Bangladesh, he had moved to the US seeking a better life.
US President Donald Trump condoled the incident in a post on Truth Social, saying, 'I have been briefed on the tragic shooting that took place in Manhattan, a place that I know and love. I trust our Law Enforcement Agencies to get to the bottom of why this crazed lunatic committed such a senseless act of violence. My heart is with the families of the four people who were killed, including the NYPD officer, who made the ultimate sacrifice.
God Bless the New York Police Department, and God Bless New York!'
Mayor Eric Adams also paid tribute to the officer, calling him 'a true-blue New Yorker, not only in the uniform he wore but in his spirit and energy of loving this city.'

BJP raises spectre of ‘political Islam' infiltrating Church in Kerala

The BJP has raised the spectre of 'political Islam' infiltrating the Church in Kerala. The party's State vice-president Shone George told a news conference on Monday (August 4, 2025) that radical Islamists, beholden to the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and Jamaat-e-Islami, had infiltrated Church protests in sizeable numbers, including those led by bishops, across the State. He noted the presence of Islamist elements in demonstrations led by Church leaders and the laity in several locations, including Kannur, Thalassery, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Mananthavady, Angamaly and Ernakulam. 'I talked to the senior-most prelate in Kerala on Monday. He seemed not to be concerned about the presence of radical Islamists among the demonstrators,' he added. Asked to adduce evidence to back his charges, Mr. George asked mediapersons to contact the State police intelligence or mine their sources in the localities. Mr. George alleged that the SDPI's gambit was to use the arrest of the nuns as a foil for alienating Christians from the BJP. The SDPI and Jamaat-e-Islami's tactics had the tacit backing of the Congress and Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)]. He accused the ruling front and the Opposition of seeking to frustrate the efforts of the BJP governments at the Centre and Chhattisgarh to secure an early release for the nuns. 'Both the Congress and the CPI(M) wanted the nuns to remain in jail to ensure that the emotive issue festers and retards the BJP's bourgeoning acceptance among Christians in Kerala,' he added. Mr. George said the Vatican Council in 1964 had ruled against forced conversion. 'In contrast, if Tipu Sultan's expeditionary forays had not halted at Kodungalloor 200 years ago, Kerala's social matrix would have been different,' he added. Mr. George attacked the Congress and CPI(M) for seeking the support of the Jamaat-e-Islami and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) respectively during the recent byelection in the Nilambur Assembly constituency. He said the BJP was with 'patriotic Muslims,' who, he stated, were in the majority. BJP leader S. Suresh, who is also a State vice-president, said the party would not allow political adversaries to single out State president Rajiv Chandrasekhar for criticism.

GOP's House map overhaul: Texas governer Greg Abbott orders arrest of Democratic lawmakers who fled state; session remains halted

Texas Republican governor Greg Abbott (Image credits: AP) Texas Republican governor Greg Abbott on Monday ordered state authorities to arrest dozens of Democratic lawmakers who fled to Illinois in an effort to block a Republican-led congressional redistricting vote, intensifying a political standoff that has brought the legislative session to a halt. 'To ensure compliance, I ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety to locate, arrest, and return to the House chamber any member who has abandoned their duty to Texans,' Abbott said. 'This order will remain in effect until all missing Democrat House members are accounted for and brought to the Texas Capitol,' he added as quoted by The New York Post. — GregAbbott_TX (@GregAbbott_TX) The walkout by 51 House Democrats prevented the Texas legislature from reaching the two-thirds quorum required for a vote, stalling a special legislative session called by Abbott. The session was aimed at advancing redistricting plans, providing disaster relief for recent Texas floods, and banning THC, the main psychoactive compound in marijuana. 'Texas House Democrats abandoned their duty to Texans,' Abbott said in a statement. 'By fleeing the state, Texas House Democrats are holding hostage critical legislation to aid flood victims and advance property tax relief. There are consequences for dereliction of duty.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Barranqueras: Unsold Sofas Prices May Surprise You (Prices May Surprise You) Sofas | Search Ads Search Now Undo The Texas house ofrepresentatives voted 85-6 on Monday to approve a motion calling for the Democrats to return. House Speaker Dustin Burrows then directed the chamber's sergeant at arms 'to send for all absentees … under warrant of arrest, if necessary.' Most of the absent lawmakers traveled to Illinois, where dozens joined Democratic Governor JB Pritzker on Sunday night at the DuPage County Democratic Party headquarters. Roughly half a dozen other Democrats joined New York Governor Kathy Hochul in Albany on Monday. 'If that's what's called for, that's what's called for,' Hochul said of the decision to leave Austin. She went on to call Abbott 'un-American' and accused him of 'rigging' the next congressional election for the GOP, reported The New York Post. 'To subvert the will of the people, they're hellbent on rigging the system. Rigging the system is un-American. Congressional districts are never drawn mid-decade,' she argued. The redistricting proposal, supported by President Trump, could net Republicans up to five additional seats in the US house of representatives—potentially expanding the GOP's narrow majority in the 2026 midterm elections.

"Basic Decency" Hochul Blasts Ted Cruz For Questioning Her Wearing A Headscarf At Cop's Funeral

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, who wore a headscarf to a Muslim police officer's funeral, clapped back at Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who seemed to mock her in a tweet. Cruz reposted a photo of Hochul at the funeral with the caption, 'Um, wut?' Hochul responded saying, 'I wore a headscarf to honor a fallen Muslim NYPD officer at his funeral. Respecting a grieving family's faith is 'wut' leaders and anyone with basic decency would do.' After Hochul's response, Cruz responded, writing, 'I agree. You should wear a hijab every day because you are so damn decent. Never mind the rights of women in New York…not your concern.' n18oc_world n18oc_crux
