Black Sabbath's Classic Album Surges 450% In Sales

Forbes28-03-2025

Black Sabbath's Paranoid returns to three Billboard charts after a 453% sales spike, thanks to a new ... More limited-edition vinyl reissue from Rhino Records. UNSPECIFIED - CIRCA 1970: Photo of Black Sabbath Photo by MichaelBlack Sabbath may be heading toward the end of its career, but fans are far from finished with the group's music. As frontman Ozzy Osbourne moves closer to retirement – at least when it comes to playing live – and the legendary rock band prepares for what appears to be its final live performance this summer, longtime listeners are snapping up copies of the group's iconic album. While the upcoming concert might be stirring up excitement, it's not the only reason the act is back in a big way.
This week, Paranoid makes an impressive return to several rankings in America. The collection sold just over 3,800 copies during the latest tracking period, according to data provided by Luminate, the company that powers the charts for Billboard. That figure is notable for any catalog title – especially one that's been available for decades – but in this case, the jump in purchases is especially striking.
Last week, Paranoid sold fewer than 700 copies in the U.S. alone. That means that this time around, sales of the full-length soared by a staggering 453%.
The sudden rise in sales is largely tied to a recent re-release of the set. Rhino Records issued a new edition of Paranoid on black vinyl, with the run limited to just 5,000 copies. Each copy was individually numbered, which makes it highly collectible.
Thanks to that large uptick in pure purchases, Paranoid reappears on three major U.S. rankings this frame. It nearly breaks into the top 10 on the Vinyl Albums chart, settling at No. 11. It also finds space on the Top Hard Rock Albums list, landing at No. 17. Perhaps even more impressively, the title makes a comeback on the all-genre Top Album Sales chart, where it hits No. 25.
Released in 1970, Paranoid helped define the sound of heavy metal – then a new style – and established Black Sabbath as one of the most influential rock bands of all time. The project includes some of the group's most well-known hits, such as 'War Pigs,' 'Iron Man,' and the title track 'Paranoid.'
The LP became a commercial juggernaut, reaching No. 1 in the U.K. and breaking into the top 20 in the U.S. At the time, that was a huge deal for the harder side of rock and roll.

Tiësto and Sexyy Red are revving their engines with the just-released collab 'OMG!' 'No one, absolutely no one, but here it is, and it's an amazing track. I think people will really like it. It's super dance.' 'OMG!' has been in the works for awhile, with Tiësto playing it during a huge performance in October at the annual dance gathering ADE. The track comes from the F1 the Album soundtrack, with the corresponding film hitting theaters on June 27, the same day the soundtrack will be released. Tiësto, a known racing fan, also makes a cameo in the film, which stars Pitt as an aging F1 driver who returns to the sport after a long absence, along with Damson Idris, Kerry Condon and Javier Bardem. F1 The Movie was directed by Joseph Kosinski, who also directed the global blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick. Songwriting has changed, says Barry Manilow

Barry Manilow thinks "songwriting has changed". The 81-year-old star released his eponymous debut album back in 1973, but he admits that songwriting has changed dramatically during the course of his career. Speaking to Billboard, he explained: "The songwriting has changed. "Young people don't write the way I was trained to write. There's no verse which goes into the chorus which goes back to the verse which goes to ending, and you change keys. They don't do that. "They start the song and then they just … it feels like a run-on sentence to me. I can't find the hook. I can't find the chorus. It just keeps on going, and then it ends." Manilow observed that a lot of his contemporaries have already retired from the music business. However, he has no intention of stepping back for the time being. The 'Could It Be Magic' hitmaker said: "It's like, 'What? Am I the only one left?' "It's Billy Joel, and Elton (John) is not well and Rod (Stewart) and Neil (Diamond). Diana Ross is still in great shape, I think. There must be only a handful of people in my world that are still there. "I'm still healthy. I'm strong and I've still got my voice and my energy. The night I can't hit the F natural on 'Even Now,' that's the night I throw in the towel. But I can still do it." Manilow has recently been working on a new album, which he hopes to release later this year. However, he admits that the creative process has been far from straightforward. The music icon explained: "This'll probably be my last album. "I've been working on it for a long time … for so long that the style of music has changed. "I had to go back and redo (the songs) so they sounded a little more contemporary. I had to take all the strings out, all the background vocals out 'cause they don't do that anymore. They don't use strings and background vocals and all that. "Even I heard that it sounded dated, so we had to go back and redo it."

DDG's Temporary Restraining Order Against Halle Bailey Denied

On Wednesday (June 4), DDG requested an emergency hearing in an attempt to block Halle Bailey from traveling internationally with their son, Halo. He countered her previous domestic violence accusations by filing for a restraining order of his own, but his request was not approved. Bailey is set to leave to Italy with their one-year-old this weekend for a few months as she shoots a film. TMZ reported yesterday the Michigan rapper filed a motion against his ex-girlfriend, claiming she poses an 'imminent emotional and psychological risk' to the child. He included several alleged incidents that would back up his assertions, if true. DDG wrote about a time Halle took his gun and ran out of his house, said she would have an abortion behind his back, and would text him concerning messages regarding her mental health. 'In or about August 2023, during a particularly volatile argument, petitioner became enraged and threatened to end her life using my legally owned firearm. Without my consent, she took the weapon and left the house,' wrote DDG in a declaration attached to his court filing, per Billboard. 'This incident was one of several in which petitioner's actions posed a serious threat to her own safety and the safety of our son by creating an environment of emotional distress and danger within the home.' The rapper also claimed Halle sent 'a series of alarming text messages threatening to kill herself and suggesting that their infant son, Halo, might also be harmed.' In May, Halle was granted a temporary restraining order against DDG after accusing him of abuse. She cited an incident where he allegedly smashed her head against a steering wheel during an argument, said he often referred to her as a 'b**ch' or 'evil,' and rallied his supporters to bad-mouth her publicly. The Little Mermaid actress addressed her Italy travel plans in her original complaint, which was approved on May 15. 'I have family and a nanny who will be traveling with me to care for Halo while I am working,' Halle wrote in the court documents. The former couple went public in March 2022 and had a child together in December 2023. See a full timeline of their relationship here.
