When Aishwarya Rai Bachchan reflected on her early days in Tamil cinema: ‘I wasn't made to feel like an outsider'
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan began her journey in Tamil cinema with films like Iruvar and Jeans, earning both critical acclaim and commercial success early in her career. In a resurfaced interview now going viral, Aishwarya reflects on her early experiences working in the Tamil film industry and how welcomed she felt despite being a newcomer.
Speaking about her second Tamil film Jeans, Aishwarya shared how the warmth and support she received on set helped her grow both personally and professionally. 'What was beautiful is I wasn't made to feel alien. I wasn't made to feel like a Bombay girl having come here at no point in time. And I think the fact that they made me so comfortable about the language and being part of the family, that in itself, I think, speaks. It's synonymous with being pampered, where I did not feel like an outsider at all. At no point in time did I feel like a newcomer. At any point in time. And I was constantly pepped up and given so much confidence to even give long shots at one go, rendering that kind of dialogue.'

Aishwarya Rai further reflected on the seamless transition from Iruvar to Jeans, crediting the team for making her journey smoother. 'I think this was the best unit I could progress to, having come from Iruvar's unit, having come from there into Jeans, this was definitely a growing experience and extremely satisfying as an artiste. I have Shankar and the entire unit of Jeans to thank immensely, for one, making me feel so comfortable in Tamil and having helped me gain so much confidence, which I wasn't all there with yet, having done only one film before. So for this, I have them to thank. And of course, even the entire cast of Jeans. And the role given to me, again, I have to thank them for that, because it is well-rounded, it is complete, it has got both facets of the girl who I probably am, so it helped me interpret the character beautifully.'
