Mexican beauty influencer Valeria Marquez was shot and killed on camera during a TikTok live stream.
Marquez, 23, was sitting inside a beauty salon in Zapopan when live stream footage caught the shocking incident. The influencer, who was wearing the same bodysuit she wore in her latest Instagram photo, was seen holding a stuffed pig in her lap in the moments before her death.
She was heard saying in Spanish, 'They're coming,' before a voice offscreen greeted her with, 'Hey, Vale?' Marquez then answered 'yes' and muted the sound on the stream. Seconds later, she appeared to be shot by a firearm.
Her Instagram following ballooned from less than 100,000 to nearly 260,000 in the wake of the news as a mix of support and shock poured into the comments of her recent posts.
City police officers and paramedics confirmed Marquez's death upon arriving at the scene, according to the Jalisco state attorney general's office. The office stated on Tuesday that the slaying is being investigated for potential femicide, which is defined by the UN as 'an intentional killing with a gender-related motivation.'
Research by the data gathering platform Statista ranked Mexico as the second-highest nation for femicides in Latin America in 2023. The country recorded nearly 800 cases in 2024, a decrease from previous years. Victims tended to have preexisting familial or communal relationships with their aggressors, according to Statista.
Initial investigations for Marquez's killing found that a man had entered the premises and apparently fired a weapon at her. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence. According to Tuesday's statement, Marquez's body was set to be transferred to the facilities at the Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences, where it would await official identification and an autopsy.

Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass, both Democrats, insist that the peaceful protests turned into riots on Sunday night only in response to the National Guard showing up. But Trump said on Monday the city would be "completely obliterated" if he hadn't mobilized the Guard. "We made a great decision in sending the National Guard to deal with the violent, instigated riots in California. If we had not done so, Los Angeles would have been completely obliterated," he wrote on Truth Social. "The very incompetent 'Governor,' Gavin Newscum, and 'Mayor,' Karen Bass, should be saying, 'THANK YOU, PRESIDENT TRUMP, YOU ARE SO WONDERFUL. WE WOULD BE NOTHING WITHOUT YOU, SIR.'" He continued, "Instead, they choose to lie to the People of California and America by saying that we weren't needed, and that these are 'peaceful protests.'" Rioters looted shops, set self-driving Waymo cars on fire, and blocked off the 101 Freeway on Sunday night after the National Guard was deployed. Cops used tear gas, flash-bang explosives and pepper balls to push back the protesters, even shooting a TV reporter with rubber bullets live on air at the terrifying scene. Newsom has asked Trump to withdraw the troops and threatened to sue the Trump administration after the president authorized 2,000 troops to storm the city. Buchan advertised her OnlyFans account through Instagram, which pupils spotted, and previously claimed to have made £60,000 in just one month through the adult site. She was previously warned by her headteacher about her "poor judgment" on social media. Senior schoolboys asked Ms Black if she had "heard the news?" and that she should "look out for Jessica Jackrabbit". Ms Black added that it was "obvious everyone knew what was going on". She tried to contact Buchan after talks with HR, but couldn't reach her. Buchan's OnlyFans profile was discovered just days before teachers went on strike over pupil behaviour. Ms Black said Buchan's activity online and the walkouts have had a "huge impact" on the school. Following a probe, Glasgow City Council said: "The council has a code of conduct that all employees should adhere to and a teacher who has actively pursued a second income on this type of website brings their school, the council and their profession into disrepute." The singer-songwriter, 27, took to social media to detail his experience, sharing his message to more than four million followers on Instagram. The musician had attended a protest against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) department's operations in Los Angeles over the weekend. The protests, which began on Friday and carried on through until Sunday, saw numerous people stage a peaceful demonstration, campaigning against ICE's raids of several workplaces in Los Angeles for alleged immigration violations. President Donald Trump authorised the deployment of the National Guard in response. On Sunday, Finneas wrote on an Instagram Story: 'F**k ICE.' His next post saw him repost a message to National Guard and military personnel who do not wish to partake in Trump's order: 'If you are National Guard or Active Duty military and you are being ordered to violate the Constitutional rights of US citizens, then this is the number to the GI Rights Hotline. There is support, you don't have to go through with it.' Several celebrities have banded together to criticise ICE and the military reaction to protests across Los Angeles, including Eva Longoria and Chrissy Teigen. On X, Longoria shared a post from California Governor Gavin Newsom, which criticises Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over his threat to deploy active-duty Marines in response to the protests. Newsom described the threat as 'deranged behaviour,' while Longoria added that it was 'Un-American' while also sharing a video of a woman being separated from her child during an ICE raid. Teigen shared various posts in support of the protests on her Instagram Stories, including a link to a mass protest on June 14. Massive raids are underway in major cities across the US as part of Trump's pledge to arrest 3,000 suspected illegal immigrants per day. One in Los Angeles descended into chaos, as counterprotests led to multiple arrests, allegedly without warrants. Two Home Depot stores, a clothing shop called Ambient Apparel, and other locations were raided by ICE agents in the predominantly Latino city of Paramount. The President issued an executive order, posted to the White House website, outlining Trump's plan to prevent undocumented immigrants from 'invading' communities and costing state and local governments.
