Political appointments are a fair reward for service, says PM Anwar
He said such appointments are a 'reward' that individuals deserve for their service and contributions to the success of the political party that eventually forms the government.
Anwar said this in his capacity as PKR president during his winding-up address at the PKR national congress held at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre here today.
He added that many had voluntarily sacrificed their careers and finances to support the party's cause.
'There are academic lecturers, there are specialist doctors who lost their jobs, ran out of hundreds of thousands of ringgit but never asked for compensation. Instead, these people spend the rest of their lives living in modestly.
'I recall an individual known as Pak Kudus in Tanjung Karang. He was among the first individuals to support me when I was fired from my work with only a pension of RM1,800 a month.
'We should give positions to qualified individuals, as a reward for the services and contributions they have given over decades in the party's struggle,' he said.
Anwar also explained that PKR is a political party made up of Malaysians from various races and backgrounds, with each group given equal rights.
'God willing, we will help members who have fought for the party.
'We are a serious multi-racial party, the founders may be Malays and Bumiputera, but they represent all races.
'We have Chinese and Indians who are also appointed by Malay members to hold the position of party vice president,' he said.
Commenting on the results of yesterday's party election, Anwar expressed confidence that the new leadership would be able to carry out its responsibilities effectively.
He also said he trusts the new leadership to take PKR to greater heights.
'I am confident that with the support of the people, PKR can attain a higher level, better than we have ever achieved,' he said.

Umno Youth chief to face court charge this Friday over Facebook post allegedly disturbing public order
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) said yesterday that it would charge Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh over a Facebook post on his account, along with two other individuals. In a statement, the AGC said the decision followed an examination of investigation papers submitted by the police. 'Based on the testimony and evidence obtained, this department has decided to bring charges under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code against Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, Muhammad Hilman Idham and Siti Hajar Aflah Sharuddin,' it said. 'The statements made by these individuals were found to have disturbed public order or constituted improper use of network facilities or network services.' The AGC said all charges will be filed at the Magistrates' Court with the relevant local jurisdiction soon. It added that the statements in question were found to have disturbed public order or constituted improper use of network facilities or services. Section 505(b) handles those causing fear or alarm to the public, and to induce them to commit an offence against public order. If convicted, a person can be punished with a prison term up to two years, a fine, or both. Hilman is the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Youth chief, with his charge is believed to be over a video of him speaking at a July 29 protest in which he allegedly claimed the arrest of some Bersatu members was politically motivated. It is unsure which Facebook post is responsible for Dr Akmal's charge. Meanwhile, Chandrasegaran a/l Subramaniam will be charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988. Last week, Dr Akmal said he was called by the federal police to give his statement over the protest he led on the display of Jalur Gemilang in Kepala Batas, Penang. The AGC had previously warned Malaysians against vigilantism in cases involving the improper display of the Jalur Gemilang, amid furore over the Umno Youth protest. Dr Akmal has since posted on Facebook that he is abroad performing umrah, or the Muslim minor pilgrimage to Mecca, and will return early to face the charge at the Magistrate's Court in Bukit Mertajam this Friday.

According to the Order Paper published on the Parliament's official website, Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PN-Sik) will pose the question of deployment to address the increasing risks of intrusion, smuggling, and cross-border activities since 2023 to the Defence Minister during the Questions for Oral Answers Session. After the question answer session, the sitting will continue with the winding up on the debate on the mostion on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) by respective ministers. Anwar: No compromise on those who leak intelligence
KUALA LUMPUR: Describing infiltration of intelligence bodies as a disaster for the country, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed that there will be no cover-ups or compromise in cases affecting national security. The Prime Minister said the recent arrest of 10 individuals, including five senior Armed Forces officers, over suspected involvement in a smuggling syndicate was possible because graftbusters can now investigate without any interference. 'If you ask why these matters are only being exposed now, it's because the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has the freedom to investigate. 'That's the difference,' he told Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas), who had asked about recent incidents involving national security. Anwar said he has also informed the Armed Forces Chief to investigate the matter thoroughly, adding that this was also raised during an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. 'I am waiting for the initial report, but we will not cover up anything. If we begin compromising on breaches within our intelligence apparatus, it would be disastrous for the country,' he said. On Aug 14, MACC remanded 10 individuals, including five senior officers of the Malaysian Armed Forces and two news portal journalists, believed to be involved in a smuggling syndicate operating in the south of the country. The Prime Minister said the government has adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards corruption, especially within entrusted government machinery. He said preliminary investigations had identified the case as far back as 2020, but it only came to light this year after MACC was granted full access to investigate. While he warned against politicising the matter, Anwar also gave assurance that no one will be protected if found guilty of any misconduct. This includes cases like the recent attack on Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli's son or the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir.
