Previous record runs on the Nordschleife by the BMW M4 CS, the BMW M4 CSL, and the BMW M3 CS, all mid-range vehicles, achieved times under 7:30 minutes. The BMW M4 CSL also holds the best lap time ever recorded for a BMW Group production car. The official, notarised time is 7:18.137 minutes.

The BMW M2 CS is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six engine, which is capable of churning out a peak power and torque output of 530 hp and 650 Nm. However, the model that set the record had some performance mods featuring engine mounts, an adaptive M suspension, an M compound brake system, and more. These modifications dropped the overall weight of the car by 30 kg, compared to the standard M2 model.

The increased output shaves off 0.1 seconds from the 0-100 kmph time and an even more impressive 0.6 seconds from the 0-200 kmph time. While Gautam Singhania's BMW M2 may have a bunch of customisations, the standard version of the 2025 BMW M2 gets a redesigned AC vent layout, an M Alcantara steering wheel, and the latest OS8.5 system powering the touchscreen infotainment unit. Safety features include six airbags, Dynamic Stability Control, Anti-lock Braking System, Automatic Stability Control, M Dynamic Mode, and Cornering Brake Control.

BMW India has launched the new 2 Series Gran Coupe in India, with prices starting at ₹ 46.90 lakh (ex-showroom). For a sportier version, however, the 218 M Sport Pro variant buyers will have to shell out ₹ 48.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Both variants will be locally assembled at BMW Group's Chennai plant and are now available for booking, with deliveries starting immediately. Positioned in the premium compact sedan segment, the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe competes with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine, Audi A3 Sedan, and Toyota Camry. BMW is offering the car exclusively with a petrol powertrain in India this time. The 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 156 hp and 230 Nm, with a claimed 0 to 100 kmph time of 8.6 seconds and a top speed of 230 kmph. Compared to its predecessor, the second-generation model has increased slightly in size, being 20mm longer at 4546mm and 25mm taller at 1445mm, while preserving its Gran Coupe silhouette.
