Officials told to take measures to achieve 15% growth rate in allied agricultural sectors in A.P.

Andhra Pradesh Minister for Agriculture, Cooperation, Marketing, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries Kinjarapu Atchannaidu has asked the officials of agriculture and allied departments to promote not only quality paddy cultivation but also horticultural crops.
'Take measures to achieve 15% growth rate in allied agricultural sectors,' he said during a video conference with the officials of agriculture and allied departments held at the Secretariat to assess the kharif preparedness.
He stressed the need for encouraging natural farming and crop rotation while reducing the use of fertilizers.
The farmers should be encouraged to shift their attention from traditional crops to horticultural and commercial crops. New technologies and artificial intelligence should be introduced on a large scale to reduce cultivation costs in allied agricultural sectors, increase quality yields, and expand marketing facilities.
The Minister called for robust arrangements so that farmers face no difficulties during the kharif season.
He instructed that all types of seeds and fertilizers required for kharif be made available to farmers in a timely manner.
'Implement natural farming fully in the regions where it is currently practised and expand it gradually to other areas. Soil testing reports must be provided to farmers. Applications related to agricultural mechanisation should be resolved within four to five days. The 50% subsidy under this scheme is being provided in advance, and officials must focus on ensuring the farmer's share is arranged through bank loans,' the Minister said.
The officials should stay alert to prevent the sale of spurious seeds and fertilizers. Special attention should be paid to traceability (to track the history, location, and application of agricultural products as they move through the supply chain—from farm to fork), certification, volume, and marketing aspects, he said.
The Minister emphasised the promotion of micro-irrigation and achieving 100% targets. All services must be made available to farmers in time through the Rythu Seva Kendras (Farmer Service Centres).
'All tenant farmers should be issued CCRS cards and be made eligible for bank loans,' he said.
B. Rajashekar, Special Chief Secretary (Agriculture) said that the government pinned high hopes on developing the primary sector.
'Hence, a 15% growth rate target has been set for the allied agricultural sectors,' he said and urged all officials to work together to achieve the target.
He emphasised that crops and yields should be optimised in line with local conditions and opportunities, making extensive use of new technologies and artificial intelligence. Special apps should be developed for this purpose, he said.

Polavaram-Banakacherla project DPR being readied for submission to Centre: Naidu

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu outlined the importance of the construction of the Polavaram-Banakacherla Irrigation Project with the Council of Ministers during a meeting held at the Secretariat in Amaravati on Wednesday. Mr. Naidu said that the project would cost an estimated ₹82,000 crore, for which the State government was preparing to submit the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Centre. This project would provide water for drinking, irrigation and industrial needs of the drought-prone Rayalaseema. The State government has almost finalised a financial model for the project, in coordination with the Centre. Minister for Information and Public Relations Kolusu Parthasarathy said that the State government had proposed to raise funds for the project from different sources, including 50% of funds in the form of loans under Externally Aided Projects (EAPs), 20% from the Centre, 10% from State government and the rest 20% under Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). The Chief Minister also discussed the financial burden on the State exchequer for the welfare schemes such as Talliki Vandanam, aimed at providing annual financial assistance for schoolchildren. Mr. Naidu said that the Annadata Sukhibhavascheme is likely to be launched this month for the benefit of the farmers. Mr. Naidu asked the Cabinet Ministers to ensure a grand success of the Yoga Day by encouraging more participants. On the other hand, the Ministers and Mr. Naidu opined to postpone the celebrations of one-year completion of the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh due to various other programmes scheduled for this month.

India wants WTO's dispute settlement mechanism back

PARIS: India has identified the restoration of the dispute settlement mechanism as the first priority for WTO members and called for maintaining special treatment for poor and developing countries. After a meeting of trade ministers here, commerce & industry minister Piyush Goyal also reiterated India's opposition to bringing plurilateral initiatives such as investment facilitation under the ambit of the multilateral body. India has argued that the China-backed proposal for investment facilitation will reduce policy space for govt and is meant to pursue Beijing's investment agenda. "Ideally, issues that have been mandated by the WTO and are within the trade framework should get priority and should be the first issues to be resolved," the minister told reporters after the meeting. At the mini-ministerial meet of trade ministers, Goyal urged other ministers to bring back the focus on issues such as agriculture, which have been agreed to by the membership in the past but a decision has been pending for more than a decade. He also called for removal of non-tariff barriers. "We have all resolved to collectively work to strengthen the working of the WTO, to ensure the core principles are respected and work towards global good and global growth in trade," he said, while dismissing concerns of WTO facing an "existential crisis". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Viva a melhor experiência de estudo no exterior (Inscreva-se agora) Study Abroad Saiba Mais Undo Putting in place the dispute settlement mechanism is seen to be at the heart of reinvigorating WTO amid a series of blows by the US during successive presidential tenures, starting with Barack Obama.
